2 Outdoor Education Roberto Clemente MS Session 1: February 5-7 (Skycroft) Session 2: February 5-7 (Smith Center) Session 3: February 7-9 (Skycroft) Session 4: February 7-9 (Smith Center) Students have been notified of their session and location through advisory classes.
3 What is Outdoor Education? Teaching/learning that occurs outdoors Outcomes: Cultivate awareness/knowledge of the natural environment and the effect of people s actions on it. Provide students with experiences using science as inquiry, such as identifying a problem, collecting/analyzing data, and creating action plans. Help students learn to live democratically and responsibly for the welfare of the total group. Promotes students physical fitness.

19 Stream Study Students explore the meaning of a watershed and learn their place in it collect and analyze data to determine stream/pond health apply the learned techniques and acquired knowledge to study their local stream

21 Confidence Course The confidence course is comprised of mentally and physically challenging events. All activities are designed to increase confidence, promote teamwork, and improve communication..

23 Predator/Prey Students will: research predator/prey relationships participate in a simulation activity and collect data based on their experience analyze the data to better understand the roles of animals in the food chain

25 Parent Volunteers We need YOU to make this a successful experience! Responsibilities include chaperoning students while in their cabins, joining them at meals, and attending instructional activities If you are interested in attending, please stay for 30 additional minutes on chaperone specifics! Priority will go to those who can attend and stay overnight for the entire session!

28 Parent Chaperone Requirements MCPS requires that all overnight chaperones complete the following: Child Abuse and Neglect online training module Criminal History Disclosure form Fingerprinting
29 Chaperone Sign-Up Process If interested, tonight you should: complete google form with basic information sign criminal history disclosure form provide a copy of driver s license (can be sent via or copied here) Next steps: Schedule an appointment for fingerprinting Complete online child abuse module
30 Confirmation Process Fingerprinting takes approximately two weeks so please take care of this as soon as possible! We will contact you via or phone to let you know whether or not you have been selected as a chaperone and confirm your availability. A MANDATORY parent meeting for all chaperones will occur on Wednesday, January 6:30 in the media center for more detailed information. Priority will go to those who can attend and stay overnight for the entire session!
