1 Job Description Nursery Cook/Caterer (CCA-AB-BN) Department BI Nursery Grade BI 8 Salary range 11,928 to 13,214 per annum based on 19 hours per week Length of appointment Permanent Location Babraham Institute Working Hours 19 hours Job Profile Summary A part-time job share Nursery Cook/Caterer post has arisen, catering for all children within the nursery. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the other cook and support the management team at nursery. Exact working days are to be confirmed, but the total working hours will 19 hours per week, over two full days working 8.30am-5pm and one half day working 1pm-5pm. The successful applicant will be required to cover the other cooks absences; the full time hours in this case is 37 hours per week (an additional payment will be made for covering these hours). Key areas of Responsibility To prepare and cook healthy, nutritious, well-balanced meals for all the children and staff within the Nursery To jointly cater for the individual dietary requirements of every child within nursery, including cultural beliefs To collaboratively plan and organise 6 monthly menus researching recipes to ensure that a varied, nutritious diet is offered and maintained To jointly plan and organise menus for special events such as the Christmas meal, Sports Day, Nursery barbecue etc. To collaboratively organise the control and ordering of stock and equipment as required To jointly carry out an annual review and costing of catering suppliers to ensure that the Nursery is obtaining best value for money To maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen to meet all environmental health requirements

2 To keep daily records of fridge and freezer temperatures plus records of incoming stock temperatures To ensure rotation of stock and safe storage of goods To supervise and instruct the Kitchen Assistant(s) in all aspects of the kitchen duties To act as joint line manager of the kitchen assistant(s) On a day to day basis act as line manager for any staff working in the Kitchen To implement a HACCAP policy as advised by South Cambridgeshire environmental health officers, currently the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Safer food, Better business in conjunction with the other cook To comply, keep up to date and inform others of all requirements and recommendations of the FSA, together with the other cook To be jointly responsible for checking food ingredients with regards to allergies and liaise with administrator in compiling up to date allergy records To jointly ensure the Allergy and Recipe file is kept up to date and complies with legislation Work with the other cook to ensure that cost of food is actively monitored and nursery catering is delivered within budget To jointly maintain equipment and organise routine servicing, to forecast, where possible, when equipment might need replacement To cooperatively source equipment, both small and capital, when required to ensure best value is achieved To jointly ensure that Suppliers deliver quality required at best price, visiting and liaising with them to inspect premises and HACCP policies To jointly manage the nurseries Cool Milk account, ordering, completing paperwork and maintaining records To comply with the Children s Food Trust s, Eat Better, Start Better guidance and recommendations To collaboratively develop and adhere to policies and procedures developed by the nursery, with particular regards to policies relating to food management, allergies and health and hygiene To work with staff to meet individual needs of all children To work with families and Staff in Ducks with regards to weaning of babies To cover the annual leave of the other cook when necessary Any other duties as required by management April 2016

5 The Babraham Institute Nursery Cook/Caterer (CCA-AB-BN) INFORMATION ON TERMS & BENEFITS The following is for information only and is not contractual statement of terms and conditions. Salary range (full-time) Holiday Entitlement Bank Holidays Christmas Closure days Pension Scheme 23,228 to 25,733 per annum based on 37 hours per week 25 days per annum Applicable to England and Wales 3 days Babraham Institute is able to offer membership of a Group Personal Pension Scheme. We will provide you with details of this scheme once you commence work. Membership of the scheme is not compulsory but it is designated as Babraham Institute s Stakeholder exempt plan. The Institute does not make contributions to other personal pension schemes. Restaurant Facilities Onsite Accommodation Social The Refectory serves hot meals and snacks and the Forum provides a selection of snacks and hot and cold beverages for coffee and tea breaks. The Institute has a number of hostels, flats and houses which can be rented. (There is currently a waiting list for all types of accommodation.) Sports & Social Club Nursery Nursery and Holidays Playscheme on site. (Availability of places is dependent on demand.)

6 Car Parking There is free car parking in the Institute Car Park. The Institute is committed to the implementation of a commuting strategy to try and reduce the growth in numbers of cars used to travel to work Any offer of employment will be subject to security screening and may be subject to health screening.
