2 After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1974, Bill worked for many years with some of the world s leading architects of the newly emerging discipline of facilitation in Spadina, Calcutta, Bombay, New Brunswick and Alberta. From the early 80 s Bill s clients included Brunswick Mining and Smelting, IBM, and the Southam and Irving chain of newspapers. Throughout the 80s and 90s as a facilitator and community development practitioner Bill facilitated dozens of public consultations, director s retreats, strategic planning sessions, conferences and workshops across Canada. Because of the government s increased interest in facilitative and transformational leadership in its managers and executives Bill has created curriclum for Human Resource Development Canada, Provincial and Territorial Governments, and for several cities. He was the lead for the 1998 Immigration Canada Newcomer Settlement study in Ontario, recommending the use of $135,000,000 on settlement services for new immigrant, and for the Toronto Drug Strategy which was passed unanimously by Toronto City Council in Bill was the chair of the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) Conference 2000 in Toronto which attracted 1,100 professional facilitators from around the world, including over 500 from the United States. He is called upon regularly to facilitate workshops, conferences, retreats and consultations with boards, executive and management teams and multi-stakeholder groups. He helps organizations, communities and government departments find the common ground to which they are all committed. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada National Environment Strategy 2003 Designed and facilitated Environment Team national strategy to create accountability framework for the year, as necessitated by the Canadian response to the Kyoto Accord. University of Guelph Innovation in Agriculture Consultation 2002 Designed and facilitated large coalition conference on Innovation in Agriculture with many stakeholders from Ontario and other parts of Canada, with special emphasis on bioengineering and biotechnology. AAFC International Development Strategy for Agriculture 2003 Process and Facilitation Consultant to the organizers of the conference which was focused on the reintroduction of fish stock to the Great Lakes. Ontario Land and Resources Cluster Cluster-wide Consultation and Strategic Plan 2002 Designed and facilitated staff strategic planning sessions for individual Cluster branches within MNR, OMAF, NMD, MOE, and then cluster wide planning for the Chief Information Officer. Agriculture Canada Geospatial Technology Conference 2003 Designed and facilitated large conference on the geospatial technology and how Agriculture Canada intends to make it more publicly relevant. Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Executive Team Strategic Planning 2003 Designed and facilitated the strategic planning process for the Deputy Minister, ADM s and Directors of OMAF. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada State of the Environment 2003 Designed and facilitated internal workshop to create Agriculture Canada s Canada-wide Water Strategy as necessitated by the Canadian response to the Kyoto Accord. North Bay District Health Unit - Northeastern Ontario Tobacco Summit 2002 Designed and facilitated a major public consultation and summit conference on issues related to smoking in Northeastern Ontario, funded by Health Canada. Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute - Bioethics Research Conference 2001 Project Leader, designed and facilitated the process of Canada-wide consultation that shaped the CCBI s vision, mission and activities. Assisted in facilitation of major conference of First Nations and MSB in Winnipeg in 1995 to develop context for the transfer. Ciba-Geigy Product Thinktank 1996 Designed and facilitated executive thinktank leading to series of biobrand products. International Development Research Centre Etiology of Anemia Consultation 1998 Designed and facilitated a workshop for research scientists around the world which developed a framework for understanding the etiology of anemia throughout the life cycle of humans, and appropriate responses. City of Burlington Parks and Recreation Public Consultation 1997 Designed and facilitated a series of public consultations for input into the citywide parks and recreation 5 year strategic plan. Asian Development Bank/IDRC Public Consultation on Large Scale Food Fortification Designed and facilitated major consultation and conference in Manila for research scientists, senior government officials and large company owners to accelerate rolling out food fortification strategies on a large scale in Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Indonesia, China and India. Citizen and Immigration Canada Human Settlement Directorate Public Consultation 1998 Project leader, designed and facilitated complete public consultation involving surveys and focus groups across Ontario on immigration issues leading to report and public recommendation on how to spend $105 million special one time funding to Ontario Settlement Directorate. Ottawa Valley Conservation Authority Environment Public Consultation 1999 Designed and facilitated public component of the OVCA consultation on environmental pressure on Ottawa River and environs. Burntwood Region Health Authority 1999 Designed and facilitated strategic planning for the directors of the health authority.
