She has written and/or produced best-selling fetal monitoring resources including books, monographs, a CD-ROM, a Guide to Fetal Monitoring and Labor Management cards which are available at Dr. Murray s publications have appeared in peer reviewed journals such as JOGNN, MCN, and The Journal of Perinatology and she has received awards of excellence in education from Sigma Theta Tau New Mexico and AWHONN District VIII. PURPOSE OF THIS 2-DAY COURSE: 1. To update your knowledge in maternal and fetal physiology. 2. To see multiple examples of normal and abnormal fetal heart rate patterns. 3. To update your knowledge related to fetal monitoring equipment and uterine activity patterns. 4. To prepare you to sit the NCC subspecialty examination for electronic fetal monitoring. 5. For those who already have the NCC credential, you may utilize the continuing education credits from this course to demonstrate contact hours of continuing education to renew your certificate of added qualification. KEY COURSE OBJECTIVES BY THE END OF THIS 2-DAY SEMINAR, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO: Feel confident that you can pass the NCC subspecialty examination for electronic fetal monitoring. Recognize the signs of extraovular insertion of the intrauterine pressure catheter. Define hyperstimulation and its potential effects on the fetus. Express how maternal diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and drug addiction impact the fetus and the fetal heart rate. Differentiate variability from a sinusoidal pattern and explain the physiology of each. Identify the critical attributes of 5 types of decelerations (early, late, variable, prolonged, and spontaneous). Recognize 4 different fetal arrhythmia patterns and their physiologic impact on the fetus. Define normal and abnormal parameters for antepartal test results. Interpret umbilical cord acid-base test results. Interpret 10 fetal monitor tracings and recognize the cause of each.
