1 Systematic Evaluation of Practice (21 credits required for Post BS) Program: Curriculum Components & Courses Graduate Statistics Course Prerequisite N706 Nursing Research This course examines a variety of research methods available to address health care problems and issues in general, and nursing in particular. N761 Program Planning, Evaluation and Quality Improvement Yes Provides content in theory, concepts, and methods of program planning and evaluation in the context of health care and community health organizations. Provides basic concept related to designing and implementing health services quality improvement projects. N764 Nursing and Health Informatics Yes Application of computer and information technologies to support nursing in the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to health, illness, and developmental challenges. Identification of information processing challenges and evaluation of informatics solutions. Ethical, legal and social issues related to informatics in patient care. N806 Evaluation and Application of Evidence-Based Practice Yes This course evaluates collective evidence and applies it, as appropriate, as a basis for improving nursing practice, health care, and healthcare outcomes. N906 Scholarly Project (I, II, III) Independent scholarly project will involve a systematic, evidence-based approach to enhance identified, health-related outcomes and be completed over the course of two to three semesters. 6 Yes Leadership/Policy Component (14 credits required for Post BS) N70 Health Care and Public Policy in the U.S. An overview of the development and implementation of health policy in the US includes legislative process, influences on these processes and nursing role. Analysis of health policies, impact of policies on health care systems and health of populations. P: Grad st. N704 Leadership for Advanced Practice Nurses (2 cr. Addresses developing and enacting new roles; interpreting legal and professional requirements and regulations; exerting leadership; and examining the ethics, values, beliefs, and norms of decision making in an interdisciplinary, collaborative practice. N708 Ethics for Advanced Practice in Health Care The emphasis of the course is on exploration of ethical knowledge development with a focus on clarification, analysis and justification relevant to advanced nursing practice; examination and development of learners' moral understanding; and distinguishing between moral and other professional responsibilities. 2 Yes

2 N772 Leadership and Organizational Decision-Making in Health Yes Care Provides advanced practice nurses with competencies (attitudes, knowledge and skills) to improve patient, organizational, and health systems performance outcomes. Effective organizational and systems leadership will help to eliminate health disparities, promote patient safety and excellence in practice. *Leadership/Policy Elective Yes *Students in consultation with their advisor may select from a variety of courses on campus or off campus. Practice Component (6 credits required for Post BS) Within the practice component, students complete: 1) advanced practice core 2) population specific theory core (students select adult/gerontology, pediatrics or psychiatric-mental health) ) advanced practice role core (preparation for the CNS or NP role) Practice Core (12 credits required for all post BS students) N702 Health Promotion & Illness Prevention in Diverse Populations Multidisciplinary approach for health promotion/disease prevention in diverse communities emphasizing the use of epidemiological psychosocial, and environmental data for aggregate/community assessment to determine shared risks, exposures, behaviors and interventions. N601 Advanced Assessment (-4 cr. Course focuses on development of advanced assessment and physical examination skills. Separate sections focus on different settings (acute care, primary care) and clinical populations (adult, aging, pediatrics, women's health). P: Intro crse in health & physical assessment. N605 Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice Nurses Pharmacotherapeutics content and application for advanced practice nursing. Emphasis on selection of appropriate therapeutics, development of clinical decision-making skills, and examination of legal, ethical, and safety issues in prescribing medications. (Crosslisted with Phm Prac) N811 Advanced Pathophysiology Indepth study of selected physiological and pathophysiological concepts with application to advanced clinical practice across the lifespan.

Concepts and research from multiple disciplines will be examined as a framework for reflective practice with adults. An emphasis is on the implementation and evaluation of clinical interventions, health promotion with clients with complex health issues, and the integration of cultural, psychosocial and relational factors that impact health status and management. N828 Clinical Leadership III practice course is to enhance clinical leadership skills within the role of an Advanced Practice Nurse. Students collaborate with a faculty course professor and clinical preceptor to meet individualized learning objectives. 5 OPTIONAL FOCUS IN NURSING EDUCATION Students wishing to prepare for certification as a nurse educator must complete a minimum of two of three didactic education courses and a teaching practicum. Equivalent education courses in other departments may be substituted for School of Nursing offerings.
