Goal of the program is assisting seniors to age in place through physical, social & intellectual programming & interactions & maximize their quality of life for the duration their lives. Student will gain knowledge of the population served, the program, community resources & gaps in services for seniors who are living independently. Becoming a major milieu in the lives of participants provides meaning & friendship to them as many of their age mates are facing serious decline & death. Student will be involved in: research this age group & their fitness needs, become acquainted with the population of people served at the YWCA, assist with program planning & output/outcome evaluation, staff development, promote social justice & economic justice, and develop community connections & collaborations. Student will be involved in planning & implementing YWomen in Careers Event, Equal Pay Day Forum, Diez Y Seis and other such programs/events.
