1 Position Description AmeriCorps Disaster Cycle Services Coordinator 2 Full-Time positions available (1 in Rapid City, 1 in Sioux Falls) Mission: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Role: The AmeriCorps Disaster Cycle Services Coordinator will work with communities and partner agencies across South Dakota to increase individual and community resilience through projects and events targeting all phases of the disaster cycle: preparedness, response, and recovery. The Member should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment, and will gain broad experience in various aspects of coordinating and executing large scale events; the disaster cycle of prepare, respond, and recover; community resiliency; exercise design and execution; the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System (ICS); volunteer recruitment, engagement, and management; partnerships and collaboration; and the American Red Cross. Goal: To build a strong community resiliency program in South Dakota with the following objectives: Raise the visibility of Red Cross in high-risk, rural communities that need to build resiliency before disaster strikes. Touch at least 1% of the population in South Dakota with disaster preparedness education. Strengthen current and create new community relationships and key partnerships that can enhance Red Cross prepare, respond, and recover services. Coordinate events that will provide preparedness and resiliency information and materials to a large portion of the community. Enable Red Cross response to any disaster in which humans are affected Strengthen and expand Red Cross individual and community disaster recovery services Increase intake of new Red Cross volunteers; increase volunteer engagement opportunities. Primary Responsibilities: Promote preparedness in South Dakota communities Convene and work with partners to create and distribute preparedness training, materials, and tools in South Dakota communities

2 Recruit, train, and equip a volunteer workforce to execute Disaster Cycle Services in South Dakota Lead or assist Red Cross disaster responses in South Dakota Lead or assist Red Cross disaster recovery services in South Dakota Program Requirements: At least 18 years of age by the start of the program. High school diploma or its equivalent. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills are required Exhibit dependability, flexibility in acceptance of varied assignments related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the NPRC program, with Host Site Manager approval Valid driver s license and ability to travel Flexibility in work schedule Strong collaboration skills Confidence in public speaking Word, Excel and PowerPoint computer skills Ability to use printer, copier and scanner Maintain professional behavior and appearance Work independently or in a group setting Term of service Members will serve from August 1, 2015 to July 31, 2016 Work Schedule: Due to the nature of our program, there will be times when members are required to serve outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends, sometimes on short notice. Program Benefits: AmeriCorps members will be provided: $12,530 living stipend for 11 months of service Student loan deferment or forbearance Upon successful completion of term of service, eligible for an education award in the amount of $5,645 which can be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions (including many technical schools and GI-Bill approved educational programs), as well as to repay qualified student loans
