2 Requirements Must be 18 years or older and not a current high school student Willingness to learn and share your time and talents Sense of Adventure as we definitely are a Change Environment Willing to commit to 1 3-hour shift weekly This will be the same day and time each week Medical requirements Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) provide immunization records if available Chicken Pox (Varicella) provide immunization records if available Annual TB screening Flu Shots Mandatory every year during flu season (Oct. through April) Background check Purchase a uniform - $20 fee (cash or check only) Hospital Orientation for New Volunteers Page 2

3 What is a volunteer? Volunteers are people who give the gift of themselves and of their time to something in relation to a cause in which they believe. Volunteers are people ready to serve where service is needed. A Hospital Volunteer understands it to be a privilege to volunteer in a professional healthcare environment. At Novant Health all volunteers are Auxiliary members The Auxiliary s mission is to provide: Needed services to patients and staff Goodwill between the community and the hospital Financial support to Novant Health northern Virginia market through fundraising efforts Be Sure! 7 Novant Health volunteer opportunities Novant Health Prince William Medical Center (NHPWMC) Emergency Services -Work in the Emergency Room to provide comfort to the patients and their families and assist the medical staff as requested Gift Shop ongoing source of fundraising for the Auxiliary -Building personalized relationships with patients, visitors and hospital personnel, use cash register system Guest Services: -Main Lobby Greet visitors, provide directions and information, deliver flowers to patients and escort visitors to their destination Women s and Children s Center Entrance -Greet visitors, provide directions and information Patient-Related Services -Work with hospitalized patients and their families under the direction of the nursing staff. Pet Therapy -Work as a Pet Rep or as a Pet Handler with your certified trained canine. Physical Therapy -Assist with setting up rooms and supporting staff. Special Services -Work in various non-patient-related services such as providing clerical services and mailings. Surgical Services -Serve as the liaison between patients and their families. Prepare stretchers for operating rooms and assist with patient transport. Rehab -support staff, greet patients Novant Health Aubergine Thrift Shop - ongoing source of fundraising for the Auxiliary Assist in stocking of items, customer interactions and relationship building, cash register and other retail tasks Novant Health Cancer Center Clerical duties; Welcome visitors and direct them appropriately Novant Health Caton Merchant House Visit residents and help with their needs under staff direction Lead various activities with the residents

9 The process Application packet Please complete the entire packet and: Mail to or drop off at: Novant Health Volunteer Services 8700 Sudley Road Manassas, VA Fax to: Scan and to: Interview we will call you to schedule once we have received the entire completed application packet Hospital orientation for volunteers (required) Training (one to two sessions) Begin volunteering! 10 The interview Once we receive your completed application, we will call or you to schedule an interview All interviews are held at Novant Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, VA What to expect at the interview We will discuss Placement / Assignment You will have an appointment at Employee Health to review the medical requirements (see page 2) Please remember to bring your: Immunization/shot record (if available) Proof of your flu shot if during flu season (Oct. through April) If you have not received your flu shot yet one will be provided to you free of charge Photo ID $20 for uniform (cash or check only) Entire time needed for interview usually 2 hours Page 10
