A developmental approach to the writing process guides students through writing sentences and develop them into paragraphs. Students will expand their vocabulary in nursing technical terms and abbreviations, increase their 3

5 ability to analyze complex texts, and improve their writing skills. The course uses practice exercises that emphasize examples in nursing context to familiarize students with commonly used concep terminology in nursing and health sciences. 19. Course aims and outcomes: A- Aims: This course aims to improve and enhance professional writing skills among nursing students. Any student with absence of 15% of the classes of any course,will not be allowed to sit for the final exam and will be given the university zero (F grade) in this course. In the case (b) above, if a student submits an official sick report authenticated by university clinic or an accepted excuse by the Dean of his/her faculty, the student will be considered as withdrawn from the course, and a "W" will be shown in the transcript for this course. Students are not allowed to come late to classes. Any student coming late will not be allowed to attend the class and he/she will be marked absent. B- Absences from and handing in ts on time: 11

13 Failure in attending a course exam other than the final exam will result in zero mark unless the student provides an official acceptable excuse to the instructor who approves a make up exam. Failure in attending the final exam will result in zero mark unless the student presents an official acceptable excuse to the Dean of his/her faculty who approves an incomplete exam, normally scheduled to be conducted during the first two weeks of the successive semester. Not submitting the t on the due date will result in a score of zero. Any plagiarisms or cheating on ts will result in a score of zero. All ts should be typed; hand written ts are not accepted. Students are required to choose groups of 2-4 students for ts; individual ts are not accepted. C- Ethical conduct Students are expected to behave in a professional manner that shows respect and tolerance toward their faculty members and peers. The policy of this course is to have open discussions and dialogue conducted in a respectful and professional manner. Recording, taping, or filming any event or dialogue during the classes of this course is not allowed. Students who display unethical conduct will be subject to disciplinary actions in accordance with university laws and guidelines. D- Honesty policy regarding cheating, plagiarism, misbehaviour: Cheating, plagiarism, misbehaviour are attempts to gain marks dishonestly and includes; but not limited to: Copying from another student s work. Using materials not authorized by the institute. Collaborating with another student during a test, without permission. Knowingly using, buying, selling, or stealing the contents of a test. Plagiarism which means presenting another person s work or ideas as one s own, without attribution. Using any media (including mobiles) during the exam 12

14 The participation or the commitment of cheating will lead to applying penalties according to the University of Jordan Students Discipline rules and regulations No. (94, 49, 47,27, 29): E- Examination Instructions for Students Bring with you full exam requirements (blue pen, pencils, sharpener, eraser, calculator etc.), borrowing from others is not allowed. Do not bring any material related to the exam Do not bring your mobile phone to the Exam room Be in the exam room at least 10 minutes before exam starting time It s not allowed to enter the exam room late. In case of coming late you have to contact the course coordinator immediately It s not allowed to leave the Exam room before the end of the END OF AT LEAST ONE- THIRD OF THE EXAM TIME. Write your name and university number on the exam paper and computerized sheet using Blue pen only. Use pencil ONLY to shade your answers on the computerized answer sheet. Do not leave examination room except under exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Senior Invigilator and you should be accompanied by an invigilator, if needed. Additional information: Appendix 1 Assignment 1. 5 marks Instructions: University of Jordan School of Nursing Professional writing ts The purpose of this t is to enable you to use effective writing as described in your textbook Villemaire, D., & Villemaire, L. (2007). Grammar and writing skills for the health professional. Use page 13 of this text to write 2 paragraphs about any of the topics shown in this list: 1. A hobby that I want to share with the reader. 2. A good day describing what happenedon that day. 3. The dream of my life/ something that I want to achieve. 4. Who is my role model in life? And why is he/she my model? Writing should follow the 5 steps in effective writing example. (Show your topic outline and the following steps). Please write no more than two paragraphs ( words). Only typed papers, that follow APA writing style format, including a title page, and exact APA writing guidelines are accepted. This writing activitymust be prepared by two students working together to produce one essay selected from the list above. Both students must contribute equally to this work. Make sure you submit this homework on due date (12 or 13 of March depending on your class section) at the beginning of the class. Late submissions will result in losing marks offyour total grade, or having a zero mark. Excuses are submitted in writing and immediately before or after the due date of submission. Plagiarism and cheating from peers will result in getting ZERO of any excuses/explanation you give to your professor.
