1 Position Information Document Deputy Director Boarding (Residential) Reports To: (Direct Line Manager) Director - Boarding Rostrevor College Rostrevor is a Catholic Independent College in the Edmund Rice Tradition, educating both day and residential students from Reception to Year 12. Rostrevor has a Mission Statement that provides the context for future development and present action. As part of the network of Edmund Rice Education Schools throughout Australia it shares a common Vision. All staff contribute significantly to the realisation of the Vision and Mission of the College and appropriate induction into this purpose is provided for new staff. The College is owned and governed by Trustees of Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA), and conducted by the Principal. The Principal is advised by the College Board whose members are appointed by EREA. 2 Position Purpose The purpose of this position is to assist the Director - Boarding in matters relating to the management and leadership of the Boarding School and to deputize for him in his absence. Key Relationships INTERNAL Report to the Director - Boarding Work with Duggan House staff Work with staff of the day school Work with Boarders in Duggan House EXTERNAL Parents/Caregivers of Boarders Outside Agencies, where necessary Authority All major decisions and authorisations will need to be referred to the Director - Boarding. Key Responsibilities Carry out all responsibilities pertaining to boarding staff with the addition of significant duties as identified by the Director-Boarding, mindful of the particular needs of the students within Duggan House. These may include: Manage, in consultation with the Director-Boarding, the staffing of Duggan House (supervise staff, residential and academic tutors) and publish staff rosters on a term-by-term basis. Arrange replacement staff for supervision or tutoring, as necessary, on notice of staff s inability to complete rostered shifts. Where applicable and practicable, to assist the Director-Boarding in the interview process for new Boarding staff. Stand in for the Director-Boarding should he be absent from Duggan House. Provide leadership to and supervision of Boarding staff in the execution of their day-to-day duties. Assist with developing effective communication links between Duggan House, day-school and parents/caregivers. Monitor and intervention in boarders academic, spiritual and pastoral welfare, both in a general sense and, if required by the Director, responsibility for preparing and writing reports on boarders in specific year levels. Contribute to the maintenance of a database of boarders behaviour and other records in collaboration with other boarding staff. Notification and liaison with the Maintenance Department in regard to maintenance, repair and upkeep of dormitory and recreation areas within Duggan House. Maintain copies of all forms and procedures. Ensure that proper procedures and guidelines for Boarders Leave are followed by students and staff. Keep the Director informed as to the state of Duggan House and any specific issues of concern. Attend Duggan House functions and maintain a high profile with parents/caregivers. Work with the Director-Boarding and other staff to ensure that all is in readiness before students return each term. Assist with staff timebooks and leave applications. Assist with budgeting. Induction and orientation of new staff. Support the Director and other boarding staff in the maintenance of effective behaviour management systems. Other significant duties as required by the Director-Boarding from time to time. Page 2 of 5

3 Additional Responsibilities Additional duties outside of the scope of this document may be required. Will be required to comply with all organisational policies and procedures. Have a commitment to uphold and contribute to the ethos of Catholic schools and residential care facilities. Understand the employer s requirements and act in accordance with South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools and EREA s Codes of Conduct for Staff. Participate in relevant professional development activities. Meet annually with Line Manager to review the scope and requirements of this position and make any alterations as agreed. Role Outcomes and Key Performance Indicators OUTCOME Assist Director-Boarding with efficient administration of Duggan House. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR Carries out key administrative duties within Duggan House in support of House Leadership in an efficient and effective manner. Attends Senior Management meetings on a regular basis. Provides leadership to and supervision of other Duggan House staff. Sets a positive example of professional behaviour and presentation at all times. Models Edmund Rice virtues of care, compassion and desire for justice in dealings with boarders, their families and staff. Maintains close links with day-school and monitors boarders academic performance. Initiates remedial programs where necessary. Assists with effective communication links between Duggan House, day-school and parents/caregivers. Promotes improved communication with families of boarders. Completion of ABSA Duty of Care course. Shows leadership and initiative in personal professional development and WHS training programs as required. Attendance at Professional Development training activities provided by ABSA, Rostrevor College and Duggan House during the year. Attendance at other relevant Professional Development over and above that expected of ordinary staff. Page 3 of 5

4 Person Specification ESSENTIAL Capacity to actively promote and contribute to the Catholic ethos of Duggan House and the College. An understanding of the ethos of a Catholic Boarding School and in particular one that operates according to the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of staff. Show empathy towards boarders and their particular situation. A clear understanding of the responsibility involved in the duty of care of staff, students and school property. Ability to show consistency and fairness to students. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Time management and communication skills consistent with the expectations of the role. DESIRABLE Experience in another Catholic School Boarding House. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to Residential Care. IT and organisational skills. Bus Driver s licence. Child-Safe Environments Responding to Abuse & Neglect:Education and Care training is now a compulsory certificate for all staff working in a school environment and all staff need to attend 3 yearly updates. Pay Specifications The position is classified as an Education Support Officer (ESO) - Boarding under the Catholic Education SA Enterprise Agreement classifications. The incumbent will receive the appropriate salary with entitlements to sick leave, holiday pay and holiday loading as set out in the Letter of Offer. The school will make contributions from its funds to the Non-Government Schools Superannuation Trust or an alternative nominated approved superannuation fund in accordance with the Superannuation Legislation and Award obligations. 5 Specific Requirements Acquire and maintain: Police Clearance to work in Catholic Education SA. Approved Child-Safe Environments Responding to Abuse & Neglect:Education and Care training. Senior First Aid Certificate or its equivalent. ABSA Duty of Care Certificate. Other training as required from time to time by the Director in order to meet the academic, pastoral, spiritual, administrative and practical needs of the position eg.
