This course is for anyone with arthritis, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, COPD, depression, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, lupus, or other chronic conditions. It s also available to persons caring for someone with a chronic disease. Arthritis Exercise Class Cost: $10 for an eight-week session (pro-rated if starting mid-session) Time: 10:00-11:00am Dates: Monday and Thursday, first session starts January 5 Location: The Centre Contact: Jackie Moore at for more information and registration Course: The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a recreational group exercise and education program designed specifically for people with arthritis and related diseases. This eight-week session will teach you very low impact exercises and stretches that target the joints affected by exercise, helping reduce pain and stiffness, maintain or improve mobility, and increase muscle strength. You can join any time during the eight-week session. Community Wellness Silver Eagles Contact: Carolyn Tilford at for information and registration Program: The PCRMC Silver Eagles program, a program for healthy aging, is FREE for anyone over age 50 living in Phelps, Dent, Crawford, Pulaski, Maries or Texas counties and surrounding areas. The goal of this program is to help members be informed of the latest health information for vital aging, make new health skills a priority, improve lifestyle, diet, and attitude for healthy longevity. Benefits of Silver Eagles membership include a monthly newsletter with tips for healthy aging, upcoming event reminders, invitations to free educational events and free quarterly wellness workshops. The action program for moving beyond death, divorce and other losses. People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don t tell you what you need to do to accomplish that. The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program not only makes that possible, but provides partnerships and guidance to ensure that it happens. This class covers basic information about the following: pregnancy, danger signals in pregnancy, stages of labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation techniques, cesarean birth, medical options and epidurals, newborn care and breastfeeding. You will also receive a tour of the Obstetrics Unit. We encourage you to have a support person attend this class with you. Community Wellness Support Groups Parkinson s Support Group Time: 2:30-4:00pm Dates: Fourth Thursday of the month, except November it will be the third Thursday Location: Pulaski Room Contact: Sarah Robinson at Course: Support group assists those with Parkinson s disease, their families, caregivers and care partners, in adapting more positively to the physical, emotional and social changes associated with Parkinson s disease. The group encourages caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person with dementia. By gathering people with common concerns, goals, and interests and members feel less isolated. Support Groups American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Cost: $65 (includes course and book) Location: Education Classrooms Time: 8:00am-12:00pm Dates: January 7 & 21, February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 1 & 15, May 6 & 20, June 3 & 17, July 1 & 15, August 5 & 26, September 2 & 16, October 7 & 21, November 4 & 18, December 2 & 16 Contact: For questions about the classes and/or to register, call Course: The Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages. Registration is required. BLS Skills Checks Only Cost: $25 Times/Dates: 8:00am-3:00pm (skill checks are scheduled every 30 minutes): January 29, February 27, March 31, April 29, May 28, June 30, July 30, August 18, September 29, October 29, November 23, December 30 1:30-3:00pm: January 7 & 21, February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 1 & 15, May 6 & 20, June 3 & 17, July 1 & 15, August 5 & 26, September 2 & 16, October 7 & 21, November 4 &18, December 2 &16 Course: BLS Skills Checks Only are provided for those who have completed the AHA BLS Online Part 1 course. A printed copy of the certification must be presented prior to the skills check. Successful completion of both the Online Part 1 and the Skills Check is required to obtain a certification card. The AHA BLS Part 1 may be accessed by going to ACLS Provider Course Cost: $290 (includes course and book) Dates: February 25 & 26, May 13 &14, August 19 & 20, November 11 & 12 Course: This two-day Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is designed for healthcare providers. 5 ACLS Renewal Cost: $190 (includes course and book) Dates: January 12, February 9, March 9, April 6, May 11, June 15, July 13, August 10, September 9, October 5, November 16, December 7 Course: The ACLS one-day recertification course is for individuals who are currently ACLS certified. Registration is required. American Heart Association Special Note-ACLS Students Prior to the start of class, ACLS students must: have current BLS certification. have current ACLS certification. understand the ACLS algorithms for the Core Cases in the provider manual. complete the Self-Assessment tests on ACLS, ECGs, and Pharmacology. ACLS Skills Check Only Cost: $65 Time: Call Skills Checks take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Course: ACLS Skills Checks Only are provided for those who have completed the AHA ACLS Online Part 1 course. A printed copy of the certification must be presented prior to the skills check. Successful completion of both the Online Part 1 and the Skills Check is required to obtain a certification card. The AHA ACLS Part 1 may be accessed by going to American Heart Association American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED PCRMC is pleased to be able to offer the American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED training to your employees, using a method that best suits your needs. Classroom Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED in a classroom setting is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use and includes an instructor-led, hands-on skills check. Online and Hands-On Skills Check Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online Part 1 is a web-based, self-directed course. The course teaches students critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage a first aid or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive. Content includes how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies, as well as perform CPR and use an AED. Upon completion of the Online portion, the employee can call to schedule an instructor-led, hands-on skills check. Contact: For questions about the classes and/or to register, call PALS Course Cost: $290 (includes course and book) Date: March 11 & 12, June 24 & 25, September 22 & 23, December 9 & 10 Course: This two-day Pediatric Advanced Life Support course provides information needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest. Registration is required. PALS Renewal Cost: $190 (includes course and book) Date: January 26, March 23, May 27, July 27, August 24, October 19 Course: The PALS one-day recertification course is for individuals who are currently PALS certified. Students must bring their completed pre-test for admission to class. Registration is required. 6 Professional Development Directions Phelps County Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer a new series of Professional Development classes. Using an interactive approach, these classes will help you identify and use the employee s strengths to build a more solid foundation and promote teamwork at all levels of the organization. Class cost will be determined by the number of enrollees (base cost of 15 employees, regardless of attendance) and the length of the session. Practical and useful activities apply the True Color concepts to the participants personal and professional lives. Understanding the similarities and differences of all people leads to improved communication skills, a greater appreciation for the uniqueness of self and others, and more meaningful relationships. A True Colors Personal Success Workshop introduces everyone to easy and highly effective personality and communication tools. Power of a Thank You Time length: hours Course: Defines appreciation and helps employees understand the power of appreciation in the workplace. Teaches the art of appreciation and why appreciative workplaces have higher productivity and lower turnover. Teamwork Time length: hours Course: Defines what a team is and the elements of teamwork. Helps identify your team player style and determine how it meshes with the rest of the team. It helps you determine why work style differences matter and how to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your style. This class shows how negative and positive attitudes affect teamwork. Getting Organized Time length: 1 hour Course: This class identifies your degree of organization, steps to getting organized, and how to maintain an organized work space. It explains the importance of organization and how it impacts productivity and customer service. Body Language Speaks Time length: hours Course: This course introduces you to body language and helps you understand the true meaning sent beyond what you are actually saying. Body language makes up fifty-five percent of how our message is communicated. Many body signals are delivered and received subconsciously. Being aware of such signals helps us get the right message across. In addition, we can adjust our own body posture to make sure we have the right level of subconscious effect on others. The last thing we want is to say something while implying something else through our body language, potentially undermining our words without realizing it.
