1 MEDIA RELEASE Asia Television Forum 2011 closes on higher attendance as Asia content market grows from strength to strength Reed Singapore and Reed MIDEM announce collaboration to take ATF to even greater heights Singapore, 16 December 2011 The Asia Television Forum (ATF) readies itself for exciting changes as Reed Exhibitions Singapore and Reed MIDEM announce a strategic alliance to take Asia s leading entertainment content market onto the next level. This news comes amidst the bustling market activity observed as the 12 th edition of ATF closes on a high note. This year s ATF took place on 7 to 9 December at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands Singapore. An outstanding total of US$ million of deals were closed as 951 companies from over 52 countries traded the latest shows and programme formats in a robust exchange of deals and collaborations. This represented a 26.54% increase in content sales as compared to Reed to grow co-productions, animation and innovation at ATF In tandem with the exciting changes and expansion of the Asia region, Reed Exhibitions Singapore will collaborate with Reed MIDEM, their French counterpart behind MIPTV and MIPCOM, in a strategic alliance to develop ATF into Asia s biggest content market. The first successful decade has set a strong foundation for ATF moving forward. With new channel launches, increased co-production activities and new opportunities brought on by digital media, we envision bringing you a new ATF that delivers beyond a competent trading floor. Asia offers such a fertile ground for the global content market. With the rising level of content demand and production quality in Asia, there is no better time to focus our attention on Asia. The synergy between the two Reed offices will bring a whole new dimension to ATF that will benefit all players in the Asia and global content industry, said Ms Anne de Kerckhove, Director of Entertainment Division, Reed MIDEM. One of the exciting key directions announced include the creation of a co-production forum to bring together leading Asian governments and top content businesses to foster cross border partnerships and showcase the best new co-production shows developed in Asia. Reed will also

2 focus on dedicated programmes spotlighting Asian animation and digital innovations, which will offer rich networking opportunities for established and new players. Year-on-year growth for ATF on all fronts this year This year s ATF saw an 18% growth in overall participation from last year with an all-time high attendance of 3,500 from 951 participating companies, bolstering its role as Asia foremost platform for international and regional media companies to meet, network and trade. In addition to larger contingents from China and France, Singapore s delegation of 55 companies was five times more than last year while the Malaysian contingent doubled to more than 60 companies at this year s ATF. The two national pavilions Singapore and Malaysia are the largest ATF has ever hosted. With 150 new seller companies and 162 new buyer companies taking part this year, the growing attention on the burgeoning Asia content market is palpable. Some of the notable new buyers include Discovery Networks International, Disney Channels Southeast Asia/Korea, Indonesia s Kompas TV, Thailand s Blue Sky Channel, and Taiwan s Next TV Broadcasting. New exhibitors include Canada s Tricon Films & Television and Breakthrough Entertainment, Japan s Tohokushinsha Film, USA s 41 Entertainment, Singapore s Clover Films, and UK s TVF International. The three days saw new channel announcements and Asian premiere of the latest content, which well-illustrated ATF s position as the preferred market in Asia: - Singapore s Mediacorp launched its 8 International (8i) channel on Australia s pay-tv platform, FetchTV. 8i is a 24-hour channel dedicated to popular Chinese dramas and will offer six hours of fresh content daily from Mediacorp s vast content offerings. - Malaysia s FriedChillies Media launched the country s first food network, FriedChillies Food Network which will offer original content programming that will push the boundaries of food shows. - BBC Worldwide announced the recommission of the highly-rated Top Gear Korea on XTM for a further two series, which will be launched in Animasia Studio, Malaysia s leading animation house, announced they will be developing ABC Monsters, an edutainment series for the Asia Pacific market. Co-funded by Malaysia s Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation s E-Content Grant, it will air on Turner s kids networks in January Marathon Media, a Zodiac Kids company, signed a co-production deal with Scrawl, one of Southeast Asia s leading animation studios to produce the animation series Star Princess, in association with France Televisions and Disney Channel France.

3 - XH Digital Film & TV from China sold Adventure of Momoking and Adventure of 12 Chinese Zodiacs to Workpoint Entertainment from Thailand, and Smart Kid and Adventure of 12 Chinese Zodiacs to PT Karyamegah Adijiaya from Indonesia. Delegates also gave this year s conference line-up the thumbs-up, which included the keynote session by leading formats creator, Dick de Rijk, and a series of spotlight sessions which opened the window on the growing territories of China and Malaysia. The Media Leader s Forum, organised in collaboration with Media Alliance, brought together over 40 Asian media industry leaders and multilateral institutions who found the forum on climate change issues and the critical role of media thought-provoking and acute. Buyers and sellers pleased with robust market activity at ATF The high level energy and buzz resonated with the wide representation of buyers and sellers who attended ATF. Describing this year s market as vibrant, enterprising and diverse, they agreed that ATF offers wide exposure, collaboration opportunities and diverse selection of content in an Asian market. Ms Roxanne Barcelona, Vice President of GMA Worldwide, a buyer at ATF, said: This year s ATF is much bigger in terms of scale and crowd. It has been a really busy market for me, packed with meetings and appointments. ATF is a very effective platform and I hope to see an even better ATF next year! Mr Awni Al Lababidi, CEO & Managing Partner of Founoon Film Distribution, a buyer at ATF, said: ATF is definitely the place to go for Asian content. ATF is a unique market with a strong focus on Asia and you can find a good range of content, especially from independent production companies from Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia who are here at ATF. Mr Le Tuyen, Business Development Director, Chu Thi Co., Ltd, a buyer at ATF, said: ATF is such an exciting and interesting market offering quality content that we can buy and produce for the Vietnam market. Mr Andres Santos, Vice President of Sales of Dori Media Distribution GmbH, a seller at ATF, said: ATF gives us the opportunity to meet with clients who we do not meet at other markets. After participating in several editions of ATF, we have established a prominent presence here which facilitates content sales as buyers know where to find us.

4 Attesting to ATF s role as a catalyst for the Asia content industry, Mr Mathieu Bejot, General Manager of TV France International, which led one of the two French delegations (the other is by unifrance), said: ATF serves as a good hub in Asia for the international markets.
