9 Applying for an RBC Volunteer Retiree Grant The RBC Retiree Grant is a program that thanks RBC retirees for volunteering to help communities prosper. Any RBC retiree in Canada can apply. Things to know before you get started 1 Not all organizations qualify for an RBC grant Before you go through the application process, check these rules to make sure your organization qualifies 2 You have to apply within the deadlines You can apply for a grant any time during the application period The application period for 2019 grants is between November 1, 2018 and September 1, 2019 by 5 p.m. EST 3 New: The size of the grant depends on your volunteer hours Grants are based on the number of hours you volunteer during the year and every hour counts (September 2 to September 1) The total you can apply for in a year is $500 for 40 hours of volunteer time. You can direct the total amount to one organization, or divide your volunteer hours and grant dollars among several organizations you volunteer for The organization MUST be a CRA registered charity or qualified donee that performs a direct community service. The following entities are not eligible to apply for or receive donations from any RBC entity: Individuals (including for the purpose of scholarships or sponsoring in charity events) Sports teams (unless Qualified Donees) Political organizations or parties Private foundations and corporate foundations Private schools (private, charter or independent, fee-based schools) Individual federated appeal member agencies, unless for a specific project not funded by the federated appeal Trade associations, advocacy organizations, chambers of commerce and professional organizations Organizations with values, purpose, policies or practices in conflict with RBC values Donations may not be made for the following purposes: Political advocacy Endowments (e.g. university chairs) or memorial campaigns Religious or sectarian programs or purposes Golf tournaments (unless a donation is made directly to the charity) Don t qualify for a grant? Track your hours anyway! Even if your organization doesn t qualify for an RBC Retiree Volunteer Grant, we encourage you to keep track of how much work you re doing to support the community. Turn to page 8 to learn how. mycommunity User guide for retirees 9
10 How to apply for the grant 1 Go to the Volunteer tab and click on Track Volunteer Time 2 Type in the name of the organization you volunteered for and press Search. Choose from the drop-down menu. 12 Getting the grant to your organization 1 All grants are now paid by EFT All grants are now paid directly into the charitable organization s bank account using direct deposit (electronic funds transfer or EFT) 2 Grants are paid four to six weeks after they re approved Once you receive your grant approval , your charity will receive the funds on the 21 st of the following month. 3 Grants are administered by our partner, Benevity Your charity can check their online Benevity account statement to confirm receipt of the grant. The grant will appear as a transfer from the Canadian Online Giving Foundation (Benevity s partner) 4 Organizations that don t register for EFT may receive less than 100% of the grant If an organization hasn t registered for EFT, Benevity will charge a service fee of $25 USD or 7% of the total amount of the grant, and then mail a cheque. To give organizations time to register for EFT, Benevity will only start deducting the service fee after it has mailed three cheques to the organization. How to register for EFT It s easy and free for any charitable organization to register with Benevity and RBC covers all EFT fees. Have the charity follow the instructions below: 1. Go to 2. Click Register Now 3. Follow the steps to complete the process Questions? us at employeevolunteer@rbc.com or Benevity at support@benevity.com mycommunity User guide for retirees 12
