What is an ambitious community for open innovation in health and sustainability. At the four campuses, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors and students develop new solutions in the fields of materials, health, food and smart services. They find what they need here for their personal and professional development: trendsetting know-how, unique R&D technology, continuous learning pathways, active valorisation and an international atmosphere. We are building a plant where we can produce 100% bio-based bottles for Coca-Cola and Danone. We really can change the world this way. community member Victor Vreeken Avantium
Where is based in the Dutch province of Limburg, at the heart of the Eindhoven- Louvain-Aachen technology triangle. At the beginning of 2017, the campuses were home to nearly 12,000 employees and over 200 companies and institutions such as DSM, SABIC, ARLANXEO, Medtronic, APG and Maastricht University Medical Center+. With 8,000 students representing dozens of different nationalities. Growing crops for food near urban areas without the influence of natural factors offers so many advantages. community member Judith van de Mortel BrightBox
How A skull implant with a perfect fit. I wasn t able to express my irrepressible creativity within the classic constraints of a university. At, co-creation in open knowledge networks is a central theme. The four campuses work closely together, and offer state-of-the-art facilities for fundamental and applied research. The expertise available at the campuses dovetails with the existing developmental capacity in the regional business environment and specific knowledge at universities and higher secondary educational institutions. The campuses work across scientific, geographical and organizational borders to derive the optimal benefits of one another s fields of expertise. community member Maikel Beerens Xilloc
Who Big Data on a microscopic scale. The iknife is a surgical scalpel that gathers molecular data from the area around the incision so that the surgeon can work with even greater precision. is the result of intensive triple-helix partnerships between government, knowledge institutes and entrepreneurs. Multinationals, spin-offs and startups all take optimum advantage of the robust knowledge infrastructure that the founding partners (Province of Limburg, Maastricht University, Maastricht UMC+, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, and Fontys) build here. The activities of regional SMEs, educational institutions and government agencies tie in with this strategy. community member Prof. dr. Ron Heeren Maastricht University
What we offer is making the Netherlands stronger. The competitive strength, business climate and the international position of the Netherlands derive above-average profit from the resilient knowledge economy in Limburg. works on solutions to social challenges and converts knowledge to products and services. It stimulates entrepreneurship and open innovation in a network of partners in our own country, just over the border, and (much) further afield. offers a sustainable and tangible commitment; over the next ten years, the region will be investing over 600 million Euros.
What we need wants to further develop its campuses, make visible contributions to (inter)national growth, and take the leap to working on a global level. To do this, we need regulatory flexibility, support and financing: Priority for investments from the Dutch National Research Agenda Financing of applied knowledge and product innovation, upscaling and pilot plants, R&D infrastructure and energy transition Optimal international accessibility by road, rail, air and the digital highway European cohesion policy focused on reinforcing ecosystems such as Support for international acquisition awarded to
Smart materials and sustainable manufacturing Sittard-Geleen Chemelot Campus Sustainable and efficient Chemelot Campus focuses on the development of smart materials (for the biomedical, automotive and packaging industries) and sustainable chemical production processes (renewable, efficient and bio-based). The ambition is to become known worldwide as a creative incubator for top talent and industry with 2,900 knowledge workers and 1,000 students by The campus is the result of a strategic triple-helix partnership between companies (such as DSM, SABIC and ARLANXEO), knowledge institutes (AMIBM, Materials Center and Chemelot InSciTe), educational institutions (Maastricht University and Chemelot Innovation and Learning Labs CHILL) and the government. The campus organization makes an effective contribution through the construction of pilot plants, accelerates the development of new activities, provides academic and scientific support, attracts venture capital investments and offers business services. The campus community consists of 77 companies (multinationals, innovative SMEs and startups), public-private research institutes in bio-medical and bio-based materials, and education at an academic and practical level. The heart of the Campus is Center Court, an ultra-modern building for meetings and conferences. Figures 77 companies 1,900 employees 660 students 216,000 m 2 Chemelot Campus is adjacent to the Chemelot Industrial Park. This collective research and production community specialized in the field of chemicals and materials hopes to be among the best of its kind worldwide by Competitive strength and the transition to more sustainable processes and products are crucial to achieving this goal.
Maastricht Regenerative medicine, precision medicine & innovative diagnostics Maastricht Health Campus Fundamental and applied research Maastricht Health Campus oversees the entire process involved in the development of innovations on behalf of the MUMC+ and Maastricht University in the fields of health and life sciences (valorisation) for scientists, researchers and students. Excellent facilities for imaging equipment help the Campus position itself more and more as the ideal location for building ecosystems related to imaging, regenerative medicine and innovative diagnostics. The Campus sets itself apart through its offering throughout the innovative chain: fundamental and applied research, equipment, and the clinic and the cross-over possibilities with other campuses. Visitors will find entrepreneurs, researchers and students at the Campus and in its immediate surroundings. The location features an academic hospital with top references and the best clinical care, a network of specialized clinics, a prestigious faculty for health, medicine and life sciences, and a leading psychology and neuroscience faculty. By 2023, Maastricht Health Campus hopes to create 1,100 new jobs and house 40 new companies at the Campus, using 2013 as a reference year. Figures 73 companies 9,200 employees 6,600 students 720,000 m 2 The Maastricht University valorisation center is currently integrated within the campus organization.
Data science and smart services Heerlen Smart Services Campus Innovation and entrepreneurship The Smart Services Campus aims to become an ecosystem operating on a European level, featuring a high innovative capacity and entrepreneurship. The Campus has a particular appeal for multinationals such as APG and Accenture, and regional companies and startups with a vested interest in smart service innovations, and talented people study and find a challenging career here. organizations, startups and academic institutes working together to build further on technological innovations in blockchain and artificial intelligence, and on new smart solutions to fight climate change and its effects. By 2025, the campus organization hopes to create 2,000 new jobs, house 100 new companies and attract 1,600 students to the Campus. Development is in full swing at the Campus with projects such as Techruption. This new community is made up of small and large enterprises and Figures 40 companies 350 employees 100 students 21,000 m 2 The Smart Services Campus continues to undergo rapid development. The municipality of Heerlen, the Open University and the Central Bureau for Statistics have recently joined the Campus.
Food and nutrition Venlo Campus Greenport Venlo Testing ground for the food of tomorrow At Campus Greenport Venlo, it s all about healthy nutrition. Innovators from SMEs, startups, scientists and students all work together here on innovations in healthy nutrition, plant breeding and growing, and alternative raw materials and food sources. It s no coincidence that Campus Greenport Venlo is located in a region in which the agri-food business is one of the most productive, sustainable and profitable in the world. It is where food innovation is in entrepreneurs DNA, and where cross-overs with logistics and manufacturing are plentiful. At the Campus, the bundled strength of the region is reinforced and expanded further thanks to the development of state-of-the-art facilities for business development, fundamental and applied research, education and meeting opportunities. There are naturally also close connections with the other three campuses in the areas of bio-based materials, smart services and of course health. Campus Greenport Venlo: the literal and figurative testing ground for the food of tomorrow. Figures 17 companies 300 employees 830 students 170,000 m 2 The campus organization became operational in May 2017, which has led to a substantial acceleration in developments at the campus. Over the next five years, R&D will require several tens of millions in non-revolving investments and start-up costs.
