1 Social Entrepreneurship with 40K GLOBE Information Guide Photo by Kristine May
2 40K GLOBE Social Entrepreneurship 40K was established by UTS Alumus Clary Castrission OAM - 40K Group, CEO and Founding Director. Clary was accidently turned into a social entrepreneur when he was studying law at the University of Technology, Sydney. The next step was supposed to be working at a big law firm until one of his professors told him to get over to the developing world and get his hands dirty. After a trip to India, his life took a complete change and he set up 40K. For his work associated with 40K, Clary has received a number of awards including an Order of Australia (2014) and the Australia-India Friendship Award (2012). Read more about the 40K story here: 40K Globe is a unique one month internship in India, providing students with grass roots training in social business. Globe sends you out with teams of Aussies into a rural village to build a sustainable business of your own a project that improves the lives of the local community. Program Overview Play a vital role in helping to develop sustainable business solutions to poverty alleviation Be part of a challenging team project working alongside local change makers Explore Social enterprise and its potential in India Join a team of aspiring entrepreneurs from around Australia and start a real social business in one month Develop leadership, business, entrepreneurial and cross cultural skills
3 Program Details The focus of 40K Globe is on Impact Projects. Students (known as Globers) will either be working with a team on a new project, or building on an existing one. You will work on your project with the guidance and support of a trained team leader, who has been a Glober previously. The project will give you the opportunity to develop practical skills in: Product design: Globers have previously designed a jewellery product made from granite dust, an off-the-beaten-track tour for Bangalore-based expats, and even handbags made from recycled rice bags Supply chain and procurement: Globers need to meet different suppliers to make their business model work Hiring: If given the green light to launch the business, you ll be required to hire locals to run it Sales: There s no point theorising whether or not people will buy the product. Globers have to go out there and market and sell Communications: Globers have to overcome inhibitions and cultural obstacles and communicate with different stakeholders Accommodation is provided in an apartment, often located above a family home or shops. You will share a room with three others and sleep in bunk beds. There is electricity (but expect power cuts!) and running water. A local Indian meal is cooked each day for the team. The Glober house is also the teams office and where all the project action takes place!
