2 Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre: A world leading incubator for quantum technology innovators Shaping innovation in quantum technology The QTEC programme empowers researchers to expand the impact of their work from the lab to real-world solutions in quantum computing, cyber security, AI, medical technology, environmental sustainability, market innovation and more. Now in it s third year, the Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre (QTEC) is the only dedicated UK innovation centre for quantum technologies. Well-funded, it offers an exclusive global leadership training and commercial development programme based at the University of Bristol, a leading institution in quantum engineering. Our vision is to create an eco-system of investors, individuals and companies that support the growth of earlystage, quantum technology enterprises - establishing the UK a global leader in the sectors where the emergence of quantum engineering will have a transformative impact. Our mission is to foster the thought leaders and entrepreneurs who will take quantum technologies out of the lab and into the real world, through educating and empowering the pioneers and businesses of the future who will form the foundation, pillars and growth of the UK s Quantum Industry.

3 An EPSRC skills hub, QTEC is part of the 270m government investment in the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQP). QTEC is a collaboration between the University of Bristol and the Bettany Centre for Entrepreneurship at Cranfield University, with a multidisciplinary network of leading Universities, Tier One companies, cutting edge innovators, investors and industry mentors. For PhD and post-doctoral researchers looking to take a novel technology to market or start a business in deep-science, QTEC provides access to a world-leading network, free financial and inkind support, as well as MBA level training for the first year to turn an idea into a sustainable venture. We need a multi-disciplinary workforce that understand the underlying quantum physics alongside the right blend of skills in design engineering, manufacturing, business and entrepreneurship. 5 Building a commercial quantum computing service Matthew Hutchings, SeeQC, QTEC Fellowship 2017/18 I started QTEC thinking I wanted to start a company - perhaps a consultancy. The program forced me to solidify my idea and I realised that all along I was sitting on an opportunity to build a commercially viable quantum computer. I would not be where I am today without the programme. Dr. Matthew Hutchings is an innovator with a research background in Superconducting quantum computing. Prior to starting QTEC, Matthew pursued research with Britton Plourde at Syracuse University, NY in close collaboration with the IBM quantum computing group at the T.J. Watson Research Centre. With this technical background and the intensive enterprise focused business training provided by QTEC, Matt is working to found a full-stack quantum computing company that builds tailored quantum processors designed to accurately and efficiently solve optimisation problems faced by industries including chemical engineering and financial technologies. QTEC start-ups have raised 2.98m in Innovate UK funding to date The QTEC opportunity gives scientists time to explore business opportunities for their research you are supported by the QTEC network and gradually build your network throughout the programme, until you are ready to go out on your own. 6 QTEC Team Prof. David May Director Professor of Computer Science, and Founder and CTO of XMOS Semiconductor, David has >40 years experience in computer architecture research, microprocessor design in industry and is the inventor on over 45 granted patents. Jane Garrett Enterprise Director Jane Garrett has built and now directs the QTEC educational programme. She has over 25 years of experience in technology company management and in helping science and technology entrepreneurs to develop their businesses. Dr Ben Miles Enterprise Developer Ben is dedicated to supporting tech transfer in Bristol. He founded Spin Up Science and Bristol Consulting Partnership to support Bristol s growing entrepreneurial community. Ben advises QTEC fellows weekly during 1-1 sessions. Dr Chris Erven Deputy Director Chris co-directed QuSpin Inc, and has over 10 years of experience developing and commercialising quantum technologies. His work with SETsquared influenced him to help establish QTEC to provide the key missing link in the UK s quantum technology industry. Dr Andy Collins Manager Andy has 20 years of experience with University of Bristol, during which he has acted as an interface between the Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials and their industrial partners. He manages QTEC, delivering all aspects of the Centre s strategy. Kimberley Brook Project Manager Kimberly has background in IP and contract law and is passionate about the commercialisation of quantum technologies. She has previously worked within the Univeristy of Bristol s Research and Enterprise Development (RED) and QET Labs centre for quantum photonics. Entrepreneurs in Residence Dr Claudio Marinelli Claudio has deep, handson experience in: business development, technology transfer and investment, entrepreneurship, sales and start-up management. He has technical expertise in semiconductors, advanced materials, photonics, telecommunication, consumer electronics and medical imaging. Dr Yuri Andersson Yuri has 20 years experience as a scientist, manager, director and investor. He has co-developed several start-ups, worked at world-leading research institutes and held senior technology positions at multi-nationals. He is founder and CEO of Nabla Ventures, a deep technology venture advisory firm, working with start-ups in fields including Quantum Technology, AI & IoT.

7 Neciah Dorh CEO, FluoretiQ FluoretiQ are developing and commercialising a quantum sensing technology to enable identification of harmful bacteria in minutes - to revolutionise the diagnosis of infections. Xiao Ai CTO, QLM QLM are developing a drone operated quantum sensor for natural gas detection to efficiently and remotely identify leaks from well-heads and pipeline transportation. Cohort 2016/17 Philip Sibson CTO, KETS KETS are developing a quantum key distribution system that harnesses he natural randomness of quantum physics to future-proof information security - with initial applications in defence, telecoms, and critical infrastructure. Mateusz Piekarek RalCal Mateusz established a consultancy for the commercialisation of quantum photonic technologies, and has successfully obtained two Innovate UK grants at the University of Bristol. James Titchener Boson X Boson X are developing scalable neural networks, using light to enable highly parallelized information processing. Xian Zhang Advanced Diamondx Advanced Diamond X are commercialising a novel method for manufacturing synthetic diamonds. Xian s diamondhardened drills are a step change in thermal management in high power electronics manufacturing. Matthew Hutchings SeeQC SeeQC are working to realise a full-stack, quantum computing service with an end goal to develop a commercially viable and energy efficient supercomputing resource for specific applications. Cohort 2017/18 Marcello Graziosi Lab2Fabs Lab2Fabs facilitate R&D access to fabs to accelerate hardware development for SMEs and researchers. Marcello will be developing this service with the University of Brsitol following the QTEC progrmamme. Hatim Salih DotQuantum DotQuantum are developing a scalable, quantum-based solution that sits between software and hardware to combat a looming problem in data security. Katie Cavanagh Beosense Beosense are working to create a fast, low-cost, and user-friendly point-of-care diagnostic device for bovine mastitis to reduce the widespread use of antibiotics in farming.
