2 What is the National Jamboree? Everything! Capitalized on the resources of the National Council as well as the countless hours of local council volunteers First time in 77 years, an entire subcamp to Venturers! Over 45,000 Scouts and Scouters attended the 2010 NSJ The Summit! Permanent Jamboree site built from the ground up. The fourth National High Adventure Base of the BSA. Excitement of past Jamborees incorporated into new themes. 2

5 What s New For The National Jamboree? Meet new people! Our campsite will be with other units from across the US. One entire subcamp dedicated to Venturers. The Summit designed from the ground up! Program constantly on the move. Provides a diverse experience. Have a higher energy level. Run from daylight to dark. 5

6 What s New For The National Jamboree? A J-phone App! Receive daily published information. Visitor Experience Showcase For those not participating in the Jamboree. Visitors and participants can gather in the 90-acre Summit Center. Visitors offered sampling of Jamboree activities Constant entertainment Arena area activities Exhibit and display areas Reasonable fee charged for showcase. 6

7 Qualifications Boy Scouts 12 years of age by July 15, 2013, or 11 years old and graduate of the 6 th grade. Must not reach 18 th birthday by July 24, Attained rank of First Class Participate in pre-jamboree training Be approved by his Scoutmaster and the Council Jamboree Committee 7

8 Qualifications Venturers Graduated the 8 th grade or be at least 14 years of age by July 15, Must not reach 21 st birthday by July 24, Participate in pre-jamboree training Be approved by his/her Crew Advisor and the Council Jamboree Committee 8

9 Pre-Jamboree Training Pre-Jamboree Training Participants will meet as a unit at least 4 times before attending the Jamboree One of the unit meetings will be shake down weekend At camp Maywood Wilderness Scouts/Venturers experience working together as a unit. It is VITAL that the Scouts/Venturers commit to attend all the meetings. 9

10 Transportation, Food, and Equipment Transportation, Food, and Equipment Bay-Lakes Council Units will tour surrounding historic sites in addition to the Jamboree experience. Stays while touring are expected to be in college style dorms Meals are anticipated to be college style cafeterias with a one or two picnic style lunches. All food, plus patrol and troop equipment, are included in the Jamboree fee. Personal equipment and a minimum of 2 complete uniforms are the responsibility of the individual Scouts. 10

11 Organization Organization Participants will be placed in Bay- Lakes Council Units only. Each unit (Troop or Crew) will consist of 36 Scouts/Venturers and 4 adult leaders. Once units are formed and leaders selected, your will receive communication through your Jamboree unit leadership. 11

12 Cost Cost Every effort is being made to bring the fee in at or below the 2010 price while preserving the quality of the Jamboree experience. Fees include: National Jamboree fee. Travel and tour expenses. Meals and lodging. Pre-jamboree training Unit numbers Accident and sickness insurance Unit and patrol equipment, patrol medallions Fees for 2010 Jamboree were $1,

13 Refund Policy Refund Policy All fees are 100% refundable UNTIL the Bay-Lakes Council begins making payments towards the Jamboree experience. Refunds after Council payments are equal to the total fees paid by the participant minus expenses related to contractual agreements made on behalf of the participant. If another Scout is available from the alternate list to take a dropout Scout position, a full refund will be made upon payment completion by the alternate Scout. Fees for alternate Scouts not attending the Jamboree are 100% refundable. All refunds must be requested in writing. 13

14 Application Application Scouts and Venturers may reserve a spot for the 2013 National Jamboree by sending in a completed Bay-Lakes Council 2013 Interest Sheet and a $200 deposit. This is just a Bay-Lakes Council contingent reservation, each Scout or Venturer will need to complete an online application at Whatever fee instructed while registering should be sent to the Bay-Lakes Council, your $200 deposit represents all or part of that payment. 14
