6 25 MLN POLISH NORWEGIAN RESEARCH FUND The largest research fund earmarked research cooperation Grant size 21,4 mill + Polish contribution 3,8 mill Environment and health research 22 joint research projects with 47 institutions 28 from Poland and 19 from Norway 20 Workshops/Seminars with 30 institutions 19 from Poland and 11 from Norway Catalyst for further cooperation: Several of the Polish institutions that have been awarded grants have already initiated further international research projects with their Norwegian project partners 6

9 EXAMPLES OF COOPERATION PROJECTS Hungary Norway medical research: Develop therapies for patients with peripheral arterial diseases, which may prevent or postpone the need of amputations. Poland Norway research on climate change: Response of marine and terrestrial ecosystems to climate changes in the Arctic. Czech Norway environmental research: Measure changes in sulphur and nitrogen pollution to assess the impact of the Gothenburg protocol. 9

13 SIMPLIFIED APPROACH FOR RESEARCH Annex 12 to the Regulations details operating procedures for donor partnership programmes in research to ensure predictable framework conditions in line with R&D cooperation in the EU FP and the European Research Area Programme committees with representatives of beneficiary states and donor states Joint projects selected through calls for proposals and scientific peer review by international experts Simplified procedures that take into account of the system of FP7 Proof of expenditure, advance payments, flat rates 13
