Rooms are 1 King bed or 2 Doubles and may be shared. Please help us meet our minimum room obligation. As part of the celebration the SLF committee is searching for the family with the most generations involved in the 4-H program. How about yours? Another search is ensuing for the oldest living 4-Her. Do you know someone who was in 4-H in the early days (1930s, 40s, 50s) of 4-H? Please contact Charlean Andes teacherc2@gmail.com for more information or to register your family or old time 4-Her. If you have memorabilia from your 4-H experience which you are willing to share with others we would like to hear from you, too. There is room for several displays to document the progression of traditions, projects, hair styles, fashions, experiences, etc. Please contact Stephanie Barrett mom4a2g@yahoo.com To commemorate 100 years of California 4-H, State Leaders' Council has designed a California 4-H Centennial Pin. Pins can be purchased for $3 each from sectional council Presidents and will be available at sectional and state 4-H events throughout California this year. For bulk purchases, contact Noel Keller at nkeller91711@gmail.com Help us assemble an awesome slide show! We need a head/shoulder picture of every 4-H volunteer in California. Please submit to John Trammel techdude4h@gmail.com. Pictures should be good quality, at least 600 KB in size. Title each photo with the name and county of the person pictured. Would you like to help plan, organize and conduct 2014 Presentation Day, Home Economics Day or Science Saturday? If you are interested in serving on a county-wide planning committee, here is your chance. Youth and adult volunteers are needed to help plan the following events: 2014 Presentation Day (to be held on March 1st in Tulelake); Science Saturday (slated for March 8th in Alturas); and Home Economics Day (in Alturas, date to be determined). Community Club Leaders are asked to submit the names, addresses and phone numbers of your club s nominees to the 4-H Office by 5 pm on November 14th.
5 What famous people have a 4-H background? Faith Hill, Reba McIntyre, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Jim Davis (the creator of Garfield), Al Gore, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Lamar Alexander, Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Herschel Walker and Reggie White are just a few distinguished alumni who are now in entertainment, government, sports, education and business careers. What are your goals for 4-H this year? Have you thought about what you want to accomplish in 4-H this year? If you want to succeed, setting goals can help. Goal setting let s you take charge of where you want to go and helps you to know if you are making progress. Follow the five stars below and you will be on the path to success! 1 Are your goals truly important to you? When you set goals that are important to you, you are more likely to succeed. Choose goals that reflect your very highest priorities and limit them to those that are truly valuable and important. If you end up with too many goals, it can be overwhelming and leave you feeling disappointed and frustrated. Are your goals SMART? You may have already heard about SMART goals. How do you know if your goals are SMART? SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-focused and have a specified Timeframe. 2 3 Have you put your goals in writing? Writing your goals down makes them REAL. As you write, use the word will not would like to or may. Empower yourself and others by framing your goals as positive (not negative) actions. Have you developed an Action Plan? What are the steps you need to take to accomplish your goals? Write each step down. As you complete each step, cross it off. Now look back at your list...you are on the road to success! 4 5 Are you on track? Make time to review your goals. Are you making good progress? Or, do you need to make adjustments to get to where you want to go?
6 Check it Out Is the following goal SMART? By March 1, 2014, I will increase my public speaking skills and become more confident and selfassured by giving at least three presentations in front of a variety of audiences and will earn a Gold Medal at County Presentation Day. Specific is the what, why and how of the SMART model. What: I will increase my public speaking skills Why:...and become confident and assured How:...by giving at least three presentations in front of a variety of audiences Measurable goals give you the evidence that you have accomplished the goal. The essential metric is whether or not you are more confident and self-assured at public speaking by March 1, Achievable goals are defined well enough that you will know when you have achieved them. In order to achieve this goal, you must have a skill set in the area of public speaking. By giving at least three presentations in front of a variety of audiences, you have an opportunity to expand your skill set. As you practice and your skills expand, your confidence and assurance in front of a variety audiences will also grow. Results-focused goals measure outcome, not activities. The result of this goal is to improve public speaking skills and become more confident and assured as demonstrated by earning a Gold Medal at County Presentation Day. Timeframes help to convey a sense of urgency and produce a relevant outcome. March 1, 2014 (the date for 2014 Modoc County Presentation Day) provides you with a timeframe or due date.
