INTEREST-FREE FUNDING AVAILABLE- FOR 4-H PROJECTS FCS Financial launched an agricultural youth funding program earlier this year to assist Missouri 4-H and FFA members with their agricultural projects. The agreement provides interest-free funding for qualifying projects, is available to all 4-H and FFA members in the association s lending service area and is repayable within one year. FCS Financial requires a detailed projected cash flow as part of the application process. The goal is to emphasize the importance of accurate records, budgeting and honoring obligations to repay in order to provide the future farmer or rancher with the tools, skills and contacts to move forward into a rewarding and successful agricultural career Funds are available for one project per year, per student. For more details or to apply, visit or contact your local FCS Financial office. Mu Extension is an EEO/AA Institution

When crayons are chopped into small pieces and baked, kids are able to combine different colors to make their own crazy color combinations. Supplies Needed A knife Crayons (a good way to get rid of old pieces of crayon) Mini-cake tins or any type of mold that come in different designs Steps 1. Parents or leaders can chop up the crayons into small pieces (pea-sized). The crayons can be kept in separate colors so the kids can mix the colors by themselves. 2. Preheat the oven to The kids can mix the different colors of crayons and place them in the design they want by arranging them in the tin. 4. Bake until the waxes have melted, about 15 to 20 minutes. 5. After the wax has cooled, the shapes can be removed from the mold. If the crayon doesn t come out, stick the tray in the freezer for an hour and the crayons will release. 6. Now it is time to draw a picture with your brand new crayons!

3 Page 3 Morgan County Fair Updates & Changes The county Fair as July 27th 30 th, The theme of the Fair will be Footloose at the Fair. There will be a county wide contest for the design so spread the word to your club members. April 1 st is the deadline. The Fair Committee w ill vote on a w inner. The winner must be a youth of Morgan county and will receive a Fair t-shirt and one pass to all grandstand events. The Pet Parade was removed due to low attendance. There will be a countywide big round hay bale decorating contest. Amanda Huffman is organizing. Swine rate of gain weigh-in will be April 16 th, 10am at the Kroeschen Farm. Ow nership papers must be turned in by May 1 st to the Extension Office for those not in the rate of gain contest. Changes to the Fair book need to be completed by March 1 st. Wright Printing will make the changes as they ll be printing the book. Business Card size ads will again be sold for $20 each. Any club wishing an ad needs to let me know by April 1 st. Make checks payable to Morgan County Fair Committee with fair book ad in the memo. I will also be obtaining t-shirt donations, rate of gain winner money and showmanship prizes. The book is to be printed by May 1 st. To help offset the cost for health papers on sheep and goats, the Livestock Show Comm plan to speak with Doc Chapman or Dr Miller about having a clinic the first of July. These papers are only good for 30 days so anyone wishing to go on to the State Fair will be on their own to obtain. I ll let you know the date once set. For Beef, we will allow heifers to be shown in the Market Class with the Steers. So the class will be called Market Beef. As the rule for other animals, if you show a heifer as a market animal you cannot show it in a breed class. You must choose one or the other it s either for breeding or market. Swine is the this way. Another decision was made if you have a ham and a bacon, you ll be allowed to sell each but you cannot sell 2 hams or 2 bacons. The rule is 2 items that are not the same project. We also voted to change the entry form. It currently says adjoining counties when paying entry fees. That will be changed to out of county. This is to encourage any out of county youth to participate in our fair not just adjoining counties. Bobbi Moniteau County: Steer Weigh-in for Moniteau Co. will be March 5 th from 7:30am-10am at the California Veterinary clinic.

4 SMQA TRAINING Clover Connection All 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy goats, rabbits and poultry must complete the appropriate level of MSMQA certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing in that project. Face to Face training with hands on activities will give you the skills that are needed to help you succeed with your project. Guidelines and online training on Missouri 4-H Website! DEADLINE REMINDER Please remember to watch for county deadlines for registration for events and other activities. County deadlines always fall before state deadlines in order to get all of the paperwork completed. Registration and/or entry forms submitted after the county deadline will not be accepted. 5 Kountry Kids meet The Kountry Kids 4-H club met Wednesday, February 17th, 6:30pm at the Stover American Legion Hall. Officers gathered at 6:15pm t review the agenda. President Brody Kroeschen called the meeting to order. Nicholas Hoffman led the pledge of Allegiance and Shae Fischer led the 4-H Pledge. Secretary Tabitha Ypya took roll call and read the minutes from the January meeting. There were no February birthdays to recognize and no demonstrations were given. Projects that needed Leaders were discussed and planned. As the Woodworking Project Leader, Benji Wilson obtained names of those youth in the project and will set up a meeting. He will also take care of being the Sheep and Poultry Project Leader. Melinda Hoffman volunteered to help with Scrapbooking. Patty will take care of Food Preservation and Cake Decorating. Bobbie will obtain Bucket Calf and Photography help. As the Ham Project Leader, Bobbie reported the date for ham pickup is March 8 th. Patty Ypya volunteered to pick up all club hams from Burger s on her way home. Project members will meet at the Kroeschen barn at 6pm on that date to hang the hams. She also stated as the Swine Project Leader, she will be setting up a visit to the Gerlt Farm to view different breeds of pigs and reported the Iman family has pigs for sale. She then asked anyone wanted project books and if the club would vote to pay the cost. Motion made and seconded for the club to pay for the books and Bobbie obtained a list of what books to order. Gabe, Angel and Evan Brunjes along with Nicholas, Tabitha and Brody each gave a report on their Energizer experiences as did the adults that attended. Brody then asked that thank you notes be written and turned in for the Albers-Kuhn family as that fund is what paid for the event. Bobbie provided cards for those that needed them and they were filled out and turned in during the meeting. Brody reminded that being a member in good standing means 50% attendance and paid member dues. The club also requests 50% attendance of club activities. Shirts and hoodies were also passed out. The County Fair theme is Footloose at the Fair. Anyone with a design idea is to turn it in to Bobbie before March 1 st for the contest. Bobbie asked if the club wanted to have a $20 ad in the fair book again this year. Motion made and seconded to approve; motion carried. The original Chaplain and Recreation Leader voted in to place in October have yet to enroll and have not been attending meetings. After discussion, the club voted to replace both positions. Alivia Oehrke volunteered to be the Recreation Leader. With no opposition, she was voted in to place. There were two volunteers for Chaplain so a ballot vote was taken. Gage Fischer won the vote with the count being taken by Vice President, Dylan Oehrke. Next meeting will be March 15, 6:30pm, officers at 6:15pm. Dylan then reviewed dates to remember. With no further business, meeting adjourned with snacks provided by Austin and Ali Menning and drinks provided by Nicholas Hoffman.

6 Page 5 Eager Eagles Hold February Meeting By: Aleah Harris, Club Reporter Vice president Alli Watts called a meeting of the Eager Eagles 4-H to order on February 1 st. Angie McNay and Paige Shelton led the pledges. Abby Pulliam then took roll call with the question What is your favorite color? Keagan Borts read the previous month s minutes and Dalton Oerly gave the treasurer s report. Courtney Matthews and Aleah Harris were recognized for their February birthdays. The club then discussed the Life-skills breakfast which was held the previous month. James Scheperle commented that the breakfast was good and said his favorite like-skill station was how to tie a tie. Dakota Matthews read the county newsletter highlights. Kendall Borts gave door prizes to Owen Gentzsch, Tim Hodges, and Evan Schoenthal. Angie McNay made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Abby Pulliam seconded the motion. Following the meeting, Courtney Matthews led the club in a game. Our next meeting will be held March 7 th.

7 Morgan/Moniteau County University of Missouri Extension 100 E. Newton St., 4th Floor Versailles, Mo Club Leader Tips February and March are great months to start encouraging hands-on activities at club meetings. The weather can be challenging this time of year, and hands-on activities can help members funnel some of their excess energy. Consider the following suggestions and ideas as you work with club officers, members and other volunteers: 1. Continue to provide support to project leaders, club officers, and club committees coordinating activities and events. 2. Check on progress of project groups, make sure the different projects have already met or have a first meeting scheduled so that members can get started. Encourage members in each project to provide project reports at the meetings. 3. Plan Valentine Party and/or service project involving as many youth as possible in the decision-making and leadership roles. 4. Remind members of requirements for completion and eligibility for exhibiting at fairs and shows. Explain again the meaning of member in good standing. 5. Before the meeting, contact project leaders and confirm they have a skill-a-thon station prepared for the March club meeting. Junior leaders are a great resource for creating and working these stations, too. 6. Review club check-up responses with officers, together you may need to revisit plan of action to complete goals and activities for the year. 7. Work with project groups on gathering items for judging classes for March or April club meetings. Judging class resources can be found at 4h.missouri.edu. 8. Work with committees to recruit a member or project group for planned demonstrations at next month s meeting.
