2 National Trips National 4-H Congress Leadership Event focuses on leadership, youth empowerment, community service, career development and cultural diversity. When: November Where: Atlanta, GA How many: Florida will support up to ten (10) youth delegates to attend National 4-H Conference Citizenship Event providing the opportunity for youth to connect, learn, engage, lead and impact their communities, their nation, and their world. When: late March/early April Where: Washington, D.C. Florida will support up to six (6) youth delegates to attend

4 Who is Eligible? National Award Trips Any 4-H member, 14 years old and up can apply for National Award Trips Once you have been awarded a trip, you cannot apply for the same trip again Scholarships Graduating seniors are eligible to apply for State 4-H Scholarships Equine Scholarships: Juniors and graduating seniors are eligible to apply Some scholarships are available to college students See the current scholarship summary for updated eligibility requirements and available scholarships

5 Award Trip Conditions Candidates will be asked to note their award trip preference in their portfolio You will only be awarded one (1) trip in a 4-H year You are encouraged to apply for the un-awarded trip the following year

6 Florida 4-H Scholarship Conditions Florida 4-H Scholarship candidates are encouraged to apply for any applicable scholarships, but will only be awarded a maximum of three (3) scholarships The Presidential Scholarship is excluded from this award cap Scholarships must be used within one (1) year from the date of award In the event the scholarship is not used with the year, the winner must present, in writing, a request for extension to the 4-H Program Leader. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the scholarship Payment of the scholarship funds will be made directly to the accredited college, university, or technical/trade school not directly to the recipient

8 How To Get Started Step 1: Download the available portfolio and cover page templates from the website Work on your portfolio in these templates and save them in a safe and secure location Use the Portfolio Example PDF for formatting examples Use the Suggested Timeline to complete your portfolio without stress! Get started on your portfolio and additional application requirements ASAP! Step 2: Have you parent, mentor, leader, and/or 4-H Agent review your application Check with your county for county specific deadlines! Step 3: Submit your application between April 1 st and June 1 st

11 Resume Format Guidelines 1-2 Page Resume (1 Page STRONGLY preferred) point black font Resumes should reflect a business style format Upload as PDF, DOC, or DOCX to application system What to Include Objective: What you hope to accomplish by submitting the resume. Skills and Accomplishments: What are My Skills worksheet Education: When will you receive your diploma? List your strongest area of focus, academic honors and activities Employment: Include the employer s name, dates of employment, city/state of employer, and bulleted descriptions of your responsibilities

12 Narrative Statement Format Guidelines 2-3 Pages point font, double spaced Upload as PDF, DOC, or DOCX to application system Narrative Statement Prompts: How have you benefitted from 4-H? What skills have you learned in 4-H? How will they benefit you in the future? Select an experience in which you were a part of a group and explain your contributions to that effort. How will you share your experiences in 4-H? What impact will you be able to make as a result of your 4-H experience? **DO NOT re-state everything from your application. This narrative should provide the reader with a story like summary of the impact 4-H has made on your life, the experiences you ve had, and how it has developed you as a person**

13 References Reference #1: Your County 4-H Extension Agent Reference #2: An adult who knows you well. Someone who knows about your experiences, drive to succeed, and can reflect on what makes you stand out among your peers. Examples: Club Leader, Academic Advisor, Teacher/Instructor, etc. **NOT NEW ANYMORE BUT STILL COOL H Year** After submitting an online application, references will automatically receive an notification with instructions and a link to complete an ONLINE reference form. Select your references before applying, make sure they are willing to complete the reference for you Let them know when you are planning to submit your application, so they can be on the look out for the reference Follow-up with your references! It is your responsibility to make sure they complete the references prior to the application deadline.

19 Section IB: Major Project Accomplishments Describe your major achievements related to your project goals for the year. Indicate the level of the achievement with the appropriate letter: Local (L); County (C); District (D); State (S); Regional (R); National(N); International (I) EXAMPLE (L,C) I researched and defined equine developmental local areas of need. I trained with a veterinarian to learn how to vaccinate and deworm equine. From there I compiled the data into a program for further programmatic use.

20 Section IIA: Project Accomplishments Years Enrolled with 4-H Project Area and Accomplishments. EXAMPLE : Horse Project I attended the Area A Horse Show in 2011 to watch and learn about showing. In 2012, I competed in the Area A Show. The experience allowed me to further my horse's abilities from a level 1 dressage horse to a level 3 dressage horse thus increasing her value from $2,500 to $7,500.

25 The Decision Process Getting an Interview The portfolio review committee will review all of the applications using the Portfolio Rubric Check out the Screening Rubric on the Portfolio Website! Interviews will be extended to candidates who score a 90 or above on their portfolio application Selected candidates will be notified via USPS mail in mid to late June Interviews will take 4-H University ONE interview for all applicable scholarships ONE interview for award trips

26 The Decision Process Qualifying for Award Trips and Scholarships Candidates who score a combined average of a 90 or higher on the Portfolio and Interview qualify for scholarships and/or award trips Averages will be ranked and scholarships and awards will be awarded from the highest scoring candidate down Recipients will be notified and recognized at the 4-H University Awards Banquet

27 Cashing In the Scholarship! Scholarship Recipients MUST submit the following materials to the State 4-H Headquarters before Scholarships will be disbursed Name, Address, and Contact Information for the College/University you will be attending Official Enrollment Verification (Class Schedule or Transcript) 2 Copies of a Thank You Letter to the Donor Student ID # at the University
