Overview This document provides a summary of the Judging Criteria for Year 2 of the PAMD Global Project, as well as the guidelines for the Project Report and Annual Forum Presentation for the teams. The Competition Logistics is also provided to guide the teams on how to prepare for the final competition. The first year of the project focused on market assessment and design concept selection, while also considering the engineering and manufacturing constraints. The PAMD Project Brief provided project teams with the project overview, concept definition, project deliverables and timeline to be completed in Year 1, of the project. The brief also contained the preliminary Judging Criteria for Year 1, which was later refined in the Year 1 Guidelines document, for the project teams to use in preparing for the Year 1 judging event at the PACE Annual Forum. In the second year, teams are to focus on more detailed engineering and manufacturing analysis as they build the fully functional prototype. The team should consider and address the judging feedback provided to the teams after the Year 1 Annual Forum. This document provides the guidelines for the final report and presentations to be judged and award at the July 2014 PACE Annual Forum. 3 April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 5

Judging Criteria The judging criteria for the PAMD project have been weighted as follows: 3 April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 6

NOTE: the road test event is separate and scoring info will be provided in the rules document. 3 April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 7

Guidelines for Report and Presentation The judges have limited time to review your proposals. Please consider the judges time when preparing your material. Make sure your report is clear and succinct. Make sure you plan time for editing and/or translation. We ask you to follow these guidelines as you prepare for the competitions. Report Outline 1. Title Page 2. Team members, including faculty advisors and industry mentors 3. Include a one-page abstract containing an image of your final concept design, a summary ( words) description of your team, and a summary ( words) of your design. (For reference, please see the EcoCAR2 website at: ) 4. Summarize your PAMD and target market. 5. Describe your work emphasizing how the project criteria was met. This will be the main section of your report and should have sub-chapters for each area (design, marketing, engineering & manufacturing). 6. Explain why you believe your PAMD is the best solution for your market segment. 7. Prepare a conclusion on how your work has helped your education. 8. Provide references to detailed reports written by your team. Please provide these reports with your final submission so that judges can review them as desired. 9. Include references to reports, journals, and other external sources used by the team. 10. Describe any adjustments made to the PAMD open requirements during year 2 (e.g. affordability, manufacturing, technology availability, or other root causes). 11. The 2014 report should build on the work done in Year 1. Summarize your actions from the feedback provided after year 1 s presentation; include your feedback assessment radar charts as a starting point. 12. Describe how the global team collaborated and worked together, addressing any feedback provided by the judges during the Year 1 judging. 13. Reports shall be no longer than 100 pages. Appendices are allowed but the competitors should not expect the judges to review these appendices to understand their proposal. Such appendices are not part of the report page limit. 3 April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 8

Presentation Title Page Team members (including pictures) and responsibilities. a. Provide a brief description of the solution used to manage team and track the project activities Summarize your PAMD and target market. Present your new work emphasizing how you met the criteria listed earlier in each category a. Engineering b. Manufacturing c. Design d. Market research Include the final PAMD proposal summarizing its key innovative features and how the target market needs were met. You may use animations/videos as you see fit to demonstrate PAMD concepts of mechanical/control subsystems of both product and manufacturing engineering. Make sure this is no more than 25% of your allocated time. Provide a 4-foot x 8-foot poster of the final design concept (vertical/portrait format), include some of the features that now have engineering solutions incorporated into the concept proposal. Additional story/poster boards are also encouraged. A full-scale functioning, physical prototype of the final product and manufacturing engineering concept should be shown as this is a key criterion. This can be augmented with photographs and motion videos. Students need to present in person. If travel arrangements to Turin, Italy are not possible, please let the PACE organizing committee know your situation. As we get a little closer to the 2014 PACE Forum, a detailed presentation schedule will be published. We will organize the schedule so that you can hear the other teams proposals. Each team will have 45 minutes for their presentation to the judges and conference delegates on Monday, July 28, as well as a follow-up question and answer session with the judges of minutes on Tuesday, July April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 9

Competition You have to spend your time wisely developing your concepts and making sure they are profitable and producible. These guidelines for written and presentation material will help both the teams and the judges with their efforts. Your written material shall be delivered by the end of June Late submissions may not be judged in time for the competition (which means no rewards are possible), but we will do our best to provide feedback. We strongly encourage students to present the projects in person. If necessary due to issues with remote presentations, pre-record videos of the teammates who will not be present in lieu of relying on remote presentations Final Competition - Logistics Each of the seven PAMD teams will have 45 minutes for their oral presentation on Monday July 28, 2014 during the PACE Annual Forum. In addition, each team will meet with the Competition Judges for a minute question and answer session on Tuesday, July 29. After these reviews the judges will meet to determine the scoring and the awards to be presented Thursday evening at the awards dinner. We will determine the order of the verbal presentations at the beginning of the 2014 Forum by a random drawing held Sunday evening at the welcome reception. The order of team presentations will then be posted near the registration table. We will also the presentation schedule to each team. Physical prototypes are required to demonstrate the team s results and should be shown during the presentation part. Show how key mechanisms will work to help explain your PAMD form and function. Of course, the running of the prototype will be left for the road test demonstration. The judges will review prototypes, pictures and videos of physical properties in order to assess those requirements. Please make sure you provide this information with your final reports in June and during your verbal presentations at the Forum. The judges will award 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd prizes during the Thursday evening banquet. The overall awards will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Production Approved prizes. Additional awards may be given at the judges discretion. Following the competition, each team will receive a written report which will include the items you could have done better in compared to the rest of the teams as presented at the 2014 Forum, similar to the report you received after Year 1. Physical properties are required to be shipped to the 2014 Forum. Details for shipping the prototype will be provided separately from this brief. 3 April 2014 PAMD Year 2 Project Report & Presentation Guidelines 10
