1 Project Proposal guidelines (Registration deadline: 20 November PM CET) To register a Project Proposal, Contestants first have to create an account on the Quarry Life Award website and fill in their profile details, with an option to add a photo and a short biography. Project Proposals have to be submitted via the online form on the QLA website. No upload functionality is allowed. To facilitate this process and allow Contestants to prepare their project submission in advance, all questions that need to be filled in to submit a Project Proposals are stated here below. 1. Proposal information Title: Contest: Quarry name: Award category: Max 100 characters How to create a good title: What is the main target of my research work or my project? Step 1: Find one sentence which describes your project. Step 2: Elaborate the title based on your sentence. The title has to contain the main topic of your project and make the reader curious. Select your country Select the participating quarry First select your project stream and then the corresponding Award categories: In the Research stream, the project categories are: - Biodiversity management - Habitat and species research - Beyond quarry borders In the Community stream, the project categories are: - Biodiversity & education - Connecting quarries and local communities - Student class project (for primary and secondary students only) 2. Project description Project short description This description will be displayed on QLA website if your proposal is selected A short summary should be used to generate public interest in your project. 1/3

2 Project long description and objectives (what?) Maximum 5000 characters with spaces Please describe what you would like to do during the research phase of the contest if your proposal is chosen. What are the targets of my research study or my project? Which results do I expect and how will help it to safeguard biodiversity? What is my target group (e.g. students, company workers, biologists )? What are the education, raising awareness and potential outreach objectives of my project? What is the proposed communication for scientific project results? Methods - Actions and activities (how?) What are the methods I will use to find answers or which tools will I develop/use to implement the project? Describe in more detail all methods you will use for your research study Describe for your project the things you need and the way you will get them How can I assure reliability in my results or my project? Project timeline (when?) Maximum 1000 characters with spaces What will be the timeline of my project (information collection phase, field work phase, report preparation phase)? Plan carefully step by step your field research or your project development. Ask yourself if the resources (time and money) are sufficient to get the answers on your questions or the project targets. 2/5

3 Involved groups and persons (who?) Maximum 1000 characters with spaces Will your project involve other stakeholders in addition to your team members? Which organizations or persons do I need to involve to succeed in my research or project targets? These are people which will not be directly involved in the research or project team but important to get access to information, land, budget and technical support Describe the expected added value for Science / the Community (depending on the chosen project stream) (why?): What is the added value for Science? Overall target of the Quarry Life Award is to create an added value to nature and to science. How is your project or field research contributing to this? What is the added value for the Community? Nature conservation and biodiversity protection are linked to human society by several ecosystem services. What is the value of your project for people and for the local community located near the chosen quarry? Describe the expected added the site / the Company (why?): Is there an added value for the company? Prove if your research or project will create a business case for the quarry and for the company. Business cases can be raising public awareness, reduction of costs for rehabilitation etc. 3/5
