2 The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute Who We Are: Founded in 1969, the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute is the University s research and community outreach center for urban and regional affairs. Our Mission: To seek solutions to the social, economic, and environmental challenges facing our community. What We Do: The Institute provides a wide range of services, including technical assistance and training related to operations and data management; public opinion surveys; land-use and natural resources consulting; economic development research and community planning to meet the needs of the Charlotte region and its citizens.

5 Charlotte Regional Indicators Project Created to provide a reliable and objective source of data to assist citizens and leaders in addressing the many public policy challenges facing this rapidly growing region. Benchmark indicators across 10 theme areas measure and track the quality of life in the 14-county Charlotte region. Concept dates to First report was released in 2007, followed by county profiles in Now the project is completely digital- all data are available online, free to the public at ri.uncc.edu.

8 Women s Summit Partnership Women s Summit & the Institute worked together on the Women s Summit 2008 Action Book Current partnership began in early 2011 and focused on identifying and tracking indicators to measure how women fared during the recession compared to men.
