Which capabilities my company needs to innovate. VI. Why Business Model Innovation is relevant to my company. VII.Hands-on experience to create a Business Model roadmap. VIII.How my Company can embark on Business Model Innovation. IX. How my Company can learn from best practice insight. We are pleased to offer for the first time a series of Innovation Masterclasses, led by Philips Innovation Services. During each 2-day event, the team from Philips will share with you their pragmatic and experienced approach to specific innovation management tools that you know will work in your business. Successful businesses have an Innovation Strategy, which is, either closely linked to, or derived from the other strategies which govern the strategic direction of the business. In this Innovation Masterclass, Philips will show delegates how to develop and adjust a sustainable Innovation Strategy, and how to implement that in your organisation. In addition, delegates will learn how to innovate their Business Model to drive maximum value and profitability from their organisation. Philips Innovation Services 1
2 Innovation Strategy As a recent publication in MIT s Sloan Management Review 1 states: it s better to develop a small set of priorities that everyone gets behind to produce results. Day One - Innovation Strategy Introduction to Innovation Strategy Review of Corporate Strategies for input Defining Innovation Focus Areas Intermezzo: Innovation Strategy and the digital world Setting up your own Innovation Strategy Day Two - Business Model Innovation An Introduction to Business Modelling Your business context and current Business Model Business Model Innovation approaches Ecosystem analysis Prototype new Business Model options, including disruptive ideation Evaluate Business Model options & create a Business Model option roadmap How to start your Business Model Innovation journey In innovation that means that you need an Innovation Strategy, a strategy that determines what your innovation goals and aspirations are, where to compete, how to win, when to deliver and what is needed to make innovation work in your company. With an Innovation Strategy in place, it is a lot easier to generate and choose the right ideas, and to develop and launch new propositions with substantially increased success rates, i.e. better results. In the masterclass on Innovation Strategy, Jeroen de Kempenaer and Rob de Graaf from Philips Innovation Services, Industry Consulting, will walk you through the steps of creating an Innovation Strategy yourself, based on their experience implementing and deploying innovation strategies in various industries. The masterclass addresses the following questions: Why should my company have an Innovation Strategy? How do I define where my company needs to innovate? How do I know when my company needs to innovate? How do I determine the needed innovation effort? How do I create the right innovation capabilities? There will be a mix of theory, cases from industry, and working on your own Innovation Strategy framework to capture what you have learned. As every company in now in the digital age, there will be an intermezzo on Digital Innovation from an Innovation Strategy perspective. 1 Turning Strategy Into Results, Donald Sull, Stefano Turconi, Charles Sull, and James Yoder, MIT Sloan Management Review, September 28, 2017 Philips Innovation Services 2
3 Business Model Innovation In the last decade, Business Model innovation has become an increasingly important process to build a sustainable growing business in an fast changing market environment with many technology disruptions. Research has shown that Business Model innovators outperform competitors that limit themselves to product or process innovation; several of the most successful companies today are primarily Business Model innovators. In this Masterclass, provided by Peter van de Berg and Mariëlle Meuffels from Philips Innovation Services, Industry Consulting, we outline a proven approach to Business Model innovation for established companies. Philips Innovation Services is the key enabler of Business Model Innovation for the various Philips businesses and also involved in Business Model Innovation at other companies. Therefore, there is a rich set of cases available which Peter and Mariëlle can build on. This part of the masterclass addresses the following questions: Why should my company go for Business Model Innovation? How do I know which Business Models to innovate on? How do I determine a Business Model roadmap? How do I deal with the changes Business Model Innovation require? Based on an example case and reflecting on your business, Peter and Mariëlle will guide you how to identify and evaluate new Business Model options, create a Business Model roadmap and embark on such a Business Model Innovation journey. After taking part in this masterclass you will be better able to shape and guide innovation in your company, better measure the results in the various phases of innovation, and eventually steer your organisation towards achieving your company s objectives. Next to creating your first draft Innovation Strategy which you can further detail when you get back to your organisation, you will better understand how digital innovation can help realise your Innovation Strategy and what role Business Model Innovation plays in your case.
