1 United Student Association Meeting Agenda Tuesday February 18, :30 3:00pm (1.5hr) JMB 128 United Student Association (SSCC Student Government) Mission statement: The United Student Association, USA, is the official student government of SSCC. This body consists of elected officers who represent student concerns to the college administration. As members of the United Student Association, we are committed to nurturing our community. We work together to create supportive environments on our campus that facilitate the fulfillment of student academic goals and encourage both self-development and community involvement. Goal to have one selected by end of year. Welcome sign approved, waiting on the director of facilities Steve Morgan. Architects draw up rendering for new welcome sign, welcome to south follow up with Cessa & Rosie. Metro cuts; keep urging local legislators to allocate funding for Metro, Rep Joe McDermott. Putting on ballot in spring to increase gas taxes to fund metro. Send Petition to Rep. Constantine. Keep Kevin Maloney in the loop on Metro LTI request for.metro (orca card) Subsidy for South Seattle students support from the President Oertli. 2. I Change name updates: survey wide district vote includes south, north and Seattle central. A majority of students approved. Must be approved by the end of this year possible vote in spring. Orca Card updates working: with metro wants to provide reduced fee for low income students.

5 B. Vice President and Legislative Liaison: Shane Bookman United Student Association (SSCC Student Government) I. Winter Quarter Metro Awareness event. Big rally moved to spring quarter. Beginning of spring quarter. Fitzgibbons rep will attend. Tent set up by bus stop. Compile list. Kurt butt leman says due to cuts it s hard to negotiate new plan. Spring Quarter Metro rally. Tentative first week in April during spring quarter. Smaller info rally prior to end of winter quarter. I ORCA card; plan. Research the plan but will expand card for whole quarter for additional $15 IV. Bylaws review and recommendation: B. Issues and Concern Officer: Jaden Pham I. Smoking Areas Use Survey Monkey and tabling to gather information about what students think about smoking on campus Goal 3: To Improve Existing Resources on Campus With 1. Library Improvements Talk to students and staff to increase awareness about quietness and study areas. Improve library resources. Ariel needs to figure out who is in charge of the supplies in the library. 2. Outreach Ask instructors to do class outreaches. Tabling around campus to inform students AND faculty/staff about our events and activities. Also, send s about our events and activities.
