1 Region Receives $190,000 for Affordable Housing The Great River Housing Trust Fund (Trust Fund) has received a $190,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to invest into affordable housing. was incorporated in recognized in Chapter 28H of the Iowa Code. Public, van The grant will rehabilitate no fewer than 20 owner-occupied homes in southeast Iowa in combination with Trust Fund resources. The award continues an owner-occupied program started by the Trust Fund in The program takes applications from incomequalified homeowners or Louisa counties and completes necessary work to the home. Work items are typically: Siding, windows, doors, roofs, access improvements, heating, plumbing or other repair work critical to the integrity and livability of the home. Applications for the new funds will be released in Spring A rehabilitated home through the Trust Fund is shown below.

Public, van RISE Grant Received for Wayland The City of Wayland will be adding a roadway to their new 59-acre industrial park after having been awarded a grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation in October. Building upon the success of other industrial areas in the City, which have been completely filled, Wayland s Industrial Park East provides a highly-desirable location for new and expanding business. The City is optimistic about the prospects of attracting new companies, which will likely bring new jobs and investment to the area. The roadway project funded by the grant provides even more incentive for business to locate in the industrial park. The RISE grant, short for Revitalize Iowa s Sound Economy, is a competitive state-wide grant program. The Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission () provides a variety of services to area communities, and assisted the City of Wayland with the grant application. Up to $157,472 of grant funds will be made available to assist in construction of approximately 600 feet of new roadway located in the Wayland Industrial Park East. This project is anticipated to be completed by October 2014.

Brownfield Tax Credits Applications Ongoing Provides tax credits to projects in grayfield or brownfield areas. Many different development projects apply, including downtown development. Tax credits are provided on a first come first serve basis. Revitalize Iowa s Sound Economy (RISE) Ongoing Funding to provide access to businesses expanding, starting or relocating from out of state. Public, van Available Funding Sources (cont d) Sustainable Community Demonstration Project CDBG Due December 2013 Sustainable Community Demonstration Project Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding is available in 2013 to local governments through a competitive basis. The Sustainable Community Demonstration Project category provides grants to communities for a variety of projects and activities demonstrating comprehensive innovative approaches to support community sustainability. To date the program has funded a demonstration district geothermal project in a community downtown and a demonstration streetscape project that integrated green infrastructure best management practices for storm water, combined with LED street lights and a building façade master plan. Competitive awards are made to cities and counties separately. Contact for additional information. 6 Staff Profile: Justin Bushong Justin recently celebrated his 5 th anniversary with in July, Hailing from Rhinelander, WI, Justin graduated with a bachelor s degree in Natural Resources Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He also recently earned his master s degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois-Springfield. Justin has had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects while at, including: land use planning, zoning, trail planning and development, brownfields planning and development, traffic counting and analysis, hazard mitigation planning, park planning, natural resource planning and grant writing and airport zoning issues. While he s not out and about in the region, he is probably hunting, fishing or playing softball. Justin was an all-region shortstop for UW Stevens Point and brings his ball skills to the Burlington RecPlex on a regular basis. He is married to Amber Bushong, a planner for the City of Burlington and father to Hadley, his daughter of nearly 3 months of age. Justin and Amber were also involved in the community. They were instrumental in rejuvenating the Burlington Habitat for Humanity chapter and establishing the first dog park in Burlington. Justin has recently notified he will be relocating in to the warmer climes of Naples, FL to work for Stock Development, a regional single family housing developer. He will be a project superintendent, managing the construction of multiple mid to high-end homes. Thank you Justin for your time, effort and service to southeast Iowa!
