Boot Camp Session I Overview of Programs - You have an idea for a much needed project, but don't know what program or funding may be available or how to get it - We can help.
2 B. SMART SCALE and SGR An overview of the application process for SMART SCALE and State of Good Repair (SGR) funding and helpful hints on how to successfully apply for this funding. Also, local perspective on successfully applying for these funds. C. Scope & Scheduling/Public Involvement/Project Risk This session will illustrate the importance and benefits of developing a good detailed Scope & Schedule early, understanding Local Public Involvement opportunities and it s effective use, and Identifying Risk throughout the project life cycle. Representatives from VDOT and the local government will share their perspective to help ensure successful project delivery. D. Every Journey Begins with Preconstruction This session will provide an overview of the transition between design and construction. Session will cover bid requirements and analysis, successfully navigating the authorization process and submitting a PS&E package, discussion of the project award process and common related issues, and facilitating successful pre-construction meetings. 12:15 - Lunch Virginia Ballroom 1:00 PM Breakout Sessions Group 2 A. Boot Camp Session II Project initiation and PE - High level introduction to project initiation and preliminary design, public involvement and consultant Procurement. B. State Funding Programs State Funds overview on eligibility, application process and helpful hints & tips on how to obtain these funds Revenue Sharing, Economic Development Access, Transportation Partnership Opportunity Fund and more!

Professional Procurement During this session learn how to procure the right consultant for your project, learn the requirements for a Pre-Award Evaluation and FAR audit and how DBE goals are determined for your professional consultant contracts. D. Construction Documentation Good project documentation is essential to a successful project. This session will provide a review major construction documentation requirements, including project diaries and materials notebooks, and will provide best management practices from speakers with VDOT, Locality, and Consultant experience. Speakers will also provide an overview of the most importance aspects of Materials Quality Assurance and the change order process. 2:30 PM Networking Break Virginia Ballroom and Foyer 3:00 PM Breakout Sessions Group 3 A. Boot Camp Session III There are more than 50 ways to lose your money - focuses on the basic do's and don t's of Right of Way, civil rights requirements and all things Environmental to make sure you avoid them. B. Transportation Funding 101 The sources of federal and state transportation funding and the legislative requirements for how it should be spent. Also a local perspective on how to utilize these various funding sources on individual projects. C. Right of way and Utility Relocation So you want to coordinate utilities for successful project delivery? Strategies and techniques for effective utility coordination and perceptions from those impacted most. An overview of processes, tools, practices and issues surrounding utility coordination and relocation efforts.
4 D. Change Orders, Claims and Civil Rights Making it through construction It's great when things work out according to plan, but sometimes things change or aren't as they appeared. This session will go over what options might be available when things aren't as planned. 5 C. I Mobility Innovative approaches to facility design are being implemented to increase safety and improve mobility for users. This session will explore some of those alternative approaches, how they have been implemented, and the associated outcomes. D. Lessons Learned Hear from those who have been there, done that. Learn what went wrong, what went right, and how to work together to improve the process and "git 'er done"!
