39 WHAT WE DO WD administers programs that advance Innovation In rural Business Dev elopment & Community Economic Dev elopment urban areas throughout the four western provinces. BC AB SK MB This includes initiatives delivered directly by WD, as well as the western component of a number of national agreements. 2
40 WD PROGRAMS Western Innovation Initiative (WINN) a fiv e-year federal Initiativ e that offers repayable contributions for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with operations in Western Canada to mov e their new and innovative technologies from the later stages of research and development to the marketplace. Western Diversification Program (WDP) is the main program through which WD makes strategic inv estments in initiativ es that enhance and strengthen the economy of Western Canada. Funding is av ailable to not-for-profit organizations for projects that support innovation, business development and/or community economic growth.
