The Council comprises of government, industry, unions and educational leaders. The FEC oversees the implementation of work initiatives for workforce development, innovation and productivity, and industry transformation. Think Tanks + Government = Agility Center for Strategic Futures: A think tank specifically built to help Singapore s government leaders identify future challenges and be prepared to evolve themselves to become an agile public service that is ready to manage a complex and fast changing environment. 1

2 Trade and Business with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Update on the trade and business relationship the US has shared with ASEAN region with the US ASEAN Business Council. Singapore is the current Chair of ASEAN. U.S. in Singapore: Microsoft s Vision in Singapore and ASEAN Microsoft has been in Singapore for 28 years (since 1990). Since their arrival, Microsoft has seen Singapore as a strategic location for doing business in the region. We will look to Microsoft to tell us what it s like to do business in Singapore; what their priorities are for the city state and ASEAN region; and how they engage with the government on Singapore s Smart Nation initiative. U.S. in Singapore: How Expedia Stays Innovative Singapore is home to Expedia s regional headquarters as well as Expedia s first innovation lab in the region. What are Expedia s priorities for Singapore and the ASEAN region, and how is Expedia innovating to stay ahead of the curve in the travel market? 7:00pm 9:00pm Dinner Keynote Tuesday, May 22 (SINGAPORE) The Prime Minister s Vision Under the office of the Prime Minister, the National Research Foundation (NRF) sets the national direction for R&D by developing policies, plans and strategies for R&D, manpower/training, innovation, and enterprise. Building Singapore s Workforce for the Future AI Singapore is the country s research and innovation program for the AI industry. AI Singapore is housed under the National University Singapore and has begun an innovative program to train people for the AI workforce. Digipen, headquartered in Redmond, is the world s first college to offer a bachelor s degree program dedicated to game development. DigiPen has long been the top choice for students pursuing a career in the digital interactive media industries. Singapore has been Digipen s international home for over 10 years. Empowering the Workforce for Lifelong Development The Ministry of Manpower is the policy maker for workforce training and lifelong skills development. We will hear from the Ministry about how a government empower its people for future work skills and opportunities. Growing Singapore: An Urban Master Plan to Create Vibrancy How is Singapore creating and sustaining a vibrant city for its residents? 2

3 Driverless in the City U.S. self-driving car startup NuTonomy is launching in Singapore. How is a city to prepare for having autonomous vehicles alongside pedestrians and vehicles with drivers? Wednesday, May 23 (SINGAPORE) No Boundaries: Regional Partnerships to Combat Climate Change Climate change is a priority for our greater Seattle region and Washington State. We will hear from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources about the challenges of being a small island with big climate change problems and how Singapore is partnering with the ASEAN region to find solutions. A Merger to Support Homegrown Companies on the Global Stage Enterprise Singapore: Enterprise Singapore is a new agency that will be completely integrated and merged by May The merging of SPRING and IE Singapore will create a new entity responsible for helping startups and Singaporean companies develop capabilities, innovate and expand globally. Why Singapore? Lessons to Attract Business The Economic Development Board (EDB) plans and executes strategies to sustain Singapore as a world-class hub for business and investment. What can the Greater Seattle region learn from Singapore s efforts to attract business and investment into the region? Lean In. Lift Up. Lead On. Friday, May 25 (SINGAPORE) Singapore Airlines: Harnessing Innovation for Global Leadership Singapore Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Singapore with its hub at Changi Airport. The airline was ranked 2 nd best in the world in 2017 by aviation website Skytrax. The visit also includes a tour of Safety and Cabin Crew Training Facilities (Cabin evacuation trainer; training pool cabin mock ups; makeup and deportment training room if available). U.S. in Singapore: How IBM is Deploying New Technologies for Growth IBM began operating in Singapore in The company has aligned both business and corporate citizenship activities to Singapore's Smart Nation agenda - including improving liveability and sustainability in urban environments, cultivating future ready skills and talents, and helping to build inclusive communities. How is IBM harnessing new technologies such as AI, blockchain, and IoT in Singapore? 4
