To submit online entries, go to Don t forget to see important fairbook corrections in Cloverleaf. Don t forget to enter classes and submit applications for special award categories Livestock Committee Scholarships, Fair Board Special Awards, Barbara Godby Award, Tom Stid Award, Horse Senior Award. Entries are not limited by class except livestock, entrepreneurship, and shooting sports. Exhibitors may enter and be judged for more than one item in classes. The member must select the class information online separately for each entry in the class. (i.e. if a member completes 3 quilts during the year, they may enter the quilt class 3 times). Record Keeping projects superintendent will allow members to exhibit same item as another project area. (i.e. if a member submits a record book for a livestock project in the animal species division, they may submit a duplicate copy in Record Keeping) Did you submit an application for County Medals or State Awards they can be entered in Record Keeping. Club officers can enter their records of their work in the club treasurer, secretary, historian. Save a copy of your online entry for verification if there are any questions about which classes you entered. Cloverbuds may enter up to 3 items total in Section 1 & 2 and one animal species in Section 3. Please also encourage your members to sign up (and complete) some of the project areas that are great "cross-overs" or add-ons to the projects that they are already doing: All animal projects--veterinary science, demonstrations, educational posters, notebooks, and record books Record Keeping--specific focus on 4-H project records, animals, shooting sports, club officers, county and state award applications, scrapbooking, resume Entrepreneurship--pick any still exhibit project that you have produced this year and make one to sell in the silent auction Teen Leadership--are you helping out in your club, do you lead a project area for younger members? Communication--you could demonstrate the process you used to complete your project or prepare a speech about a topic you are passionate about Remember opportunities for Club Entries: Community Service each club applying for this award will submit a report explaining how the youth were involved in the planning and completion of the community service project and why that service was chosen. Poster with pictures and description of service will need to be displayed and presented at Fair in a special designated area. Winners will be announced at the Fall Awards Recognition Event. 4-H Community Parade Club members and youth organizations will work together to design and implement a plan for completing a group project with originality for presentation in a parade setting at the Community Parade of your choice: example: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Winter Holiday, etc. Exhibit and display presented at Fair should include photos and/or posters showcasing the entry. Clubs are encouraged to display their float at the Fair.

2 Food Booth Volunteers Needed Looking for volunteers to join the Food Booth committee. Must be able to be a shift advisor during week of fair. Goat Workshop Saturday, May 16, p.m. Sandhill Vet Riding Arena 2769 Sandhill Road, Mason (indoor arena held rain or shine) How about a Golf Club? Ingham County 4-H is seeking volunteers who may be interested in helping pilot a 4-H Golf Club. We already have partners identified from Michigan State University and the Michigan PGA and Clinton County, now we just need to talk with interested volunteers in Ingham County! Our colleagues at Texas A&M University Extension 4-H have already created and implemented 4-H Golf Clubs, so there is a curriculum and outline already in place. Possible lessons topics include: character education, turf grass/golf course management, sports nutrition, and rules and etiquette of golf. Please call Daniel at 676=7293 for more details. Topics will include: showmanship, the new pack class, clipping, hoof trimming and anatomy stations. Feel free to bring your own goat! For questions, please contact Jan Kelley at Ingham County 4-H Horse Camp June 16-18, 2015 Ingham County Fairgrounds Registration $75/rider (discount available for families) Deadline: May 31, 2015 Come to camp and bring your horse!! What better way to kick off your summer vacation than attending Ingham County 4-H's Paul Wolter Horse Camp. 4-H members will have the opportunity to brush up on skills that may have gotten rusty over the long winter as they prepare for the summer show season. The camp takes place at the Ingham County Fairgrounds and consists of two days of clinics and riding lessons. The final day is a practice horse show where participants apply what they have learned at camp. Registration materials for all camp participants, teen helpers, and cloverbud members as well as camping registration forms can be found at: ProjectAreasandPrograms/Horses.aspx under "Horse Camp". If you have any questions please feel free to contact any of the committee members listed in the packet Summer Discovery Cruises Do you want to learn about the Great Lakes by being on the Great Lakes? If so, you will want to learn more about our 2015 Summer Discovery Cruises ( season! For the fourteenth summer, Michigan Sea Grant Extension will provide Michiganders (and visitors to Michigan) with the opportunity to learn about the Great Lakes by being on the Great Lakes. Cruises depart from Lake Erie Metropark, with cruises on the lower Detroit River and Lake Erie, and Lake St. Clair Metropark, cruising Lake St. Clair. The 2015 season offers more than 25 educational cruises around themes such as Fisheries, Wildlife, Wetlands, Shipwrecks, Lighthouses, Weather, Shipping and more. Cruises for educators wanting to enhance the use of Great Lakes content in their teaching are provided with stipends. Swine Hair Follicle Sample due by Friday, May 15 Superintendent: Jerry Schneider Hair follicle submission. Sampling instructions and submission card in Cloverleaf or 4-H Office. $5.00 charge per member due at submission. Rabbits Tuesday, June 30 6:00-8:00 p.m. Superintendent: Penny Jezuit All rabbits must be legally tattooed. Tattooing offered for a donation to the rabbit program. All tagging to take place at Ingham County Fairgrounds. If you are unable to attend on the tagging date for your species, please contact the superintendent PRIOR TO the tagging date. Flower Planters Needed. Sandy, Fair Manager, is looking for all ages to help plant flowers in three different areas at the Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 17, from 2 to 5 pm This is a great Community Service project (Sandy said she would put a plaque in the areas planted of who planted flowers and maintains them) and a great opportunity to give back to the fair and be proud of their grounds. All flowers, tools, mulch, and drinking water will be provided by the fair office. Participants should dress for the project and weather...no open toed shoes. Gloves recommended Also looking for individuals or clubs (especially clubs that use the Community Building for their club meetings) to take on the responsibility of continuous weeding and watering of the 3 areas from planting time all through summer. Another great Community Service opportunity! Anyone who is able to work on this project should contact Julie Casper at any time before May 17. State 4-H Trail Ride June Whiskey Creek Trail Camp, Custer Registration due: June 1, 2015 Your Cost: $45 The State 4-H Trail Ride & Family Camp Weekend is a fun-filled event that YOU should add to your calendar this summer! The event takes place at the beautiful Whiskey Creek Campground in Custer, MI. Don t have a horse? No worries! There are plenty of activities for non-riders. Whiskey Creek Campground offers an indoor heated swimming pool, full electric hook ups, stocked fishing pond, wi-fi, laundry, playground and so much more! The Trail Ride committee has an agenda sure to please: crafts, t-shirt making, science activities, delicious meals, line dancing, and more! Plan on attending to meet other horse-enthusiasts, camp and make great memories. This is a great event for the whole family to share! Camping fees and 6 meals are included with your low registration fee. Registration deadline is June 1st. 4 PQA ONLINE CERTIFICATION FOR 2015 NEW INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE READ Youth exhibitors will have the opportunity to complete their PQA training requirements via an online training module. The module will include a testing procedure for youth in the intermediate and advance categories. Ingham County exhibitors wishing to complete the requirement online must complete by June 15th. Youth can take the course online and at the completion of the course, beginners will receive a one year certification. Intermediate and senior youth will be directed to an age appropriate online exam. If youth chose to take the course face-to-face with a Youth PQA Plus advisor, they need to ask their advisor about taking the exam. The training module does not have to be completed in 1-setting; however the test must be completed once the youth has started it. If you need your certification number, contact the 4-H Office. For questions, please contact Mark McCorkle at Visit: and click on the orange Certify Online Now button n the middle of the page that will link them to the registration page to get signed up for their PQA Plus online training. A 4-H member must be certified in order to show their pig at the 2015 Fair. If you need instructions for collecting a hair follicle sample from your pig please see this web link: youth/swinehairinstructions.pdf. For Ingham County Fair, you will need hairs with root/follicles from each pig listed. You will put the samples in a Ziploc bag, not an envelope. Ingham County 4-H & Fair reserve the right to test any of the hair follicles submitted to match to pigs actually shown at the fair. Exhibitors should keep in mind that the intent of the 4-H project is a learning experience; the member should be keeping records on the specific pigs identified throughout the learning process. The purpose of possession dates and identifying animals is to pinpoint which animals are the exhibitors 4-H project for the current year. Fair registration tips: If you have 2 individual pigs you register for market class twice (class 200) If you plan to show as a pen (matched pair) you register for 1 market class and 1 pen (class 200 & 201). If you are unsure if you will show as a pen, you may register both ways (class 200, 200, 201) All exhibitors are highly encouraged to register for showmanship for their age category. This class may be judged during market class. Only those qualified should register for home grown class; these pigs must be shown in class 200 also. Exhibitors encouraged to register for record keeping and Tom Stid Award. Please note that these projects can be exhibited in swine department as well as record keeping department during Still Exhibit judging. Members must have a current PQA number to show/sell at fair

7 Ingham County Farm Bureau Scholarship The Ingham County Farm Bureau sponsors one scholarship each year. This scholarship is based on student need, college grade point average, extra curricular and professional activities, application and a personal interview. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the following criteria must be met: The applicant must be a regular or associate member of the Ingham County Farm Bureau or the son/daughter of a member. At least one full year of membership must be completed. The applicant must have reached junior status if enrolled in a four-year degree program or must have completed two semesters of an Agricultural Technology Program. The applicant must be pursuing an agricultural or agriculturally related course of study. The applicant must have completed an application by May 31, The applicant should have a copy of his/her transcript and one letter of recommendation sent to: Ingham County Farm Bureau. 8 COMMUNITY LEADER O R N E R 4-H Community Leaders You are in the new 4HOnline system but are your Project Leaders and Club Volunteers? Now that we ve wrapped up with the youth enrollment portion during our 4HOnline transition, it is IMPERATIVE that all adult volunteers also have a profile in 4HOnline. These Project Leaders and Resource Volunteers MUST be certified through the MSU Extension Volunteer Selection Process (VSP) which includes a background check, criminal history check, references, online module training and interview. Please log into your club page and see which adult volunteers are Active, Pending or Incomplete. Then contact them to begin the process if necessary. The VSP steps can be found at: Project Leaders will not receive Fair Passes if they have not created a profile in 4HOnline. Volunteer Training May 27, 2015 Looking for ideas to help build your skills as a volunteer and help youth grow? Then consider spending the evening of May 27th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Ingham County MSU Extension Office exploring the concept of youth development. Learn what the Search Institute s 40 Developmental Assets are, how to build them in youth, and how to help youth become successful adults. Everyone will have a fun evening and learn some ideas that can put into action in your club. Dinner will be provided from 6-6:30 p.m. Cost to attend is $2 and can be paid the evening of the training.
