3 CREDP-GIZ S INVOLVEMENT IN EAW CREDP-GIZ supports the Energy Awareness Week in St. Lucia since 2003: Sponsorship of activities; participation in symposiums and workshops; exhibition on RE and EE; Participation by CREDP-GIZ s RE and EE experts in TV and radio talkshows; participation in the EAW organization commitee

4 CREDP-GIZ S INVOLVEMENT IN EAW CREDP-GIZ suggested EAWs in other countries, for example Guyana and Jamaica Similar support was provided to those countries as was provided to St. Lucia CREDP-GIZ suggested a roll-out of EAW in CARICOM CREDP-GIZ now supports the CARICOM EAW by sponsorship of, e.g, awareness activities CREDP-GIZ drafted the Energy Awareness Week Guidebook

5 ENERGY AWARENESS WEEK GUIDEBOOK The Energy Awareness Week Guidebook is intended to be a planning aid for organizors of EAWs The Guidebook contains general advice on structuring the organization of EAW The Guidebook also contains tips and ideas for activities that can be done during EAW The Guidebook is intended to be a living document

8 ENERGY AWARENESS WEEK EVALUATION CREDP-GIZ has done an evaluation of the 2011 Energy Awareness Week in St. Vincent Guyana Jamaica Evaluation Report is currently under review and will be available soon

9 ENERGY AWARENESS WEEK EVALUATION Evaluation was done by means of pre-post comparative questionnaires answered by selected groups In each country about 100 people were randomly selected on the street Seminar participants filled in questionnaires before and after the seminar

10 ENERGY AWARENESS WEEK EVALUATION Main Findings in a nutshell: EAWs in none of the countries had a measurable impact on knowledge about RE and EE on people in the street The seminars achieved awareness raising among the vast majority of seminar participants

11 ENERGY AWARENESS WEEK EVALUATION Main Conclusions drawn: EAW activities must be tailored to the respective target group When the public is target group, much more visibility and public relations is required, for example: TV talk shows, radio programs, billboards, etc. It is advisable for each EAW implementing member country to monitor the impact of the actions in order to taylor actions accordingly and thereby increase the impact

12 IDEAS FOR ECELP S EAW ACTIVITIES The Eastern Caribbean Energy Labeling Project (ECELP) will also participate in EAW Concept to be finalized, but initial ideas include: Distribution of flyers and information material on EE and energy labels to the general public Give energy meters to school children and let them measure the consumption of appliances at their homes

13 ECELP ideas (continued): Activities in cooperation with retailers of electrical household appliances: Showcase energy consumption of different appliances Rebates for energy-efficient appliances against hand-in of old appliances Large displays of energy labels in stores IDEAS FOR ECELP S EAW ACTIVITIES Flyers with information on energy labels and efficient appliances for customers Lend energy meters to interested customers to measure consumption of their old appliances
