1 Rules for the Artist Residency Program called Performatywny Magazyn 1 Organization 1. The Artist Residency Program called Performatywny Magazyn, hereinafter referred to as the Program, is organized by the Muzeum Śląskie hereinafter referred to as the Museum. 2. The Program is a cyclically organized artist residency program (hereinafter referred to as the Residency ), and each of the series announced by the Museum will refer to the theme chosen by the Museum. 3. The application process for the Program will take place at a time announced together with the rules on the Muzeum Śląskie website: by the date indicated by the Museum. 4. Projects developed under particular Residency may assume the execution of activities outside of the Muzeum Śląskie, however, the final result of the activity must be presented in the form chosen by the artist-in-residency and the Museum, at the time agreed on with the Museum. 2 Idea The idea of the Program is to create an autonomous zone for visual and performance artists under 35 from Poland and abroad. The Museum offers space for work and meetings with the recipients of the Program, the possibility of consulting a qualified team and experts cooperating with the institution, and promoting the project implemented within the Residency. The Artist-In-Residence is expected to be creative, open to creating interdisciplinary projects and cooperation with the local community, as well as respecting the mission and vision of the Muzeum Śląskie. The series of Artist Residency Program is supposed to enable young artists to gain new experiences by carrying out projects that creatively reinterpret the theme suggested by the Museum. It intends to broaden the cultural competences and sensitivity to contemporary means of expression among the recipients of the Program. 3 Objectives of the first series The aim of the application process is to select original designs creatively interpreting the Industrial Panorama of Silesia theme. The thematic scope of the suggested actions should refer to the industrial spaces of Silesia interpreted in the context of a historical region (including the territory of Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic), with particular attention to changes related to the 1

2 industrial development in the 19 th century and modern views on post-industrial heritage. We will be particularly interested in projects involving discourse with the past, re-reading the industrial heritage, discussing the subject of place or locality remembrance. The proposals should include activities in the field of visual arts, in particular video-art, multimedia projects and sitespecific art, as well as performative artistic activities of participatory nature. 4 Rules for participation 1. University graduates or students under 35, especially those of art major, from home and abroad, are invited to send their applications. 2. The Museum allows teams of up to two people to enter the program. In the case of a team which is not a legal person, it is necessary to indicate the team leader in the application, who will later represent the team in all contacts and possible legal actions with the Museum. The team members, by appointing the team leader, authorize her/him to act on their behalf in all matters relating to the Residency. 3. The participants in the Residency must be the authors or co-authors of the work. 4. The participant, when submitting their work as a proposal for Residency, is obliged to submit a written statement on the possession of the exclusive economic copyright regarding the work (Attachment 2). 5. Up to two projects can be submitted in a Residency application, with only one being selected for implementation. 6. Persons, who do the Residency under the Program, are obliged to submit a copy of the Museum s work and to conclude an agreement with the Museum specifying the terms and conditions of cooperation and the rules of using the resulting work. The Museum has the right to include the work in the Museum s collection, and the acceptance of the work into the Museum s collection will be individually decided by the Purchasing and Donating Committee. 7. Under the Residency, the Museum covers travel costs (related to the Residency) and pays the Artist-In-Residence a remuneration in the amount of PLN 5,000 gross, from which the Artist-In-Residence covers accommodation costs. All rules for paying the remuneration will be set out in the agreement between the Artist-In-Residence and the Museum. 8. The Museum shall secure a pool of funds for the purchase or the making of materials related to the execution of the Residency or the Residency project by the Artists-In-Residence in the maximum amount of PLN 10,000 gross per each Residency. Detailed implementation costs will be determined each time with the Museum s coordinator of the Residency and the Artist-In- 2

3 Residence. Any purchases of materials and other expenses from this pool are made directly by the Artists-In-Residence (in the form of advance payment transferred to the Artist-In- Residence by the Museum), who are required to submit bills and invoices, certifying the costs incurred, to the Museum. 5 Implementation of the Residency 1. The Residency includes the following stages: conceptual work; consultation with museum representatives; implementation of the Residency; organization of (at least two) open meetings with the audience (in the form chosen by the Artist-In-Residence, including: discussions, workshops, open rehearsals) to familiarize the audience with the Artist-In-Residence s work or the discussed subject; final presentation of the Residency (in the case of visual arts activities, the Museum intends a maximum 5-day presentation of the Residency project); 2. The Museum can organize accompanying offers, i.e. meetings and discussions related to the theme of the Residency during the presentation of the Residency project. Topics and guests of meetings will be individually accepted by the Artist-In-Residence. 3. At each stage, the Artist-In-Residence is obliged to cooperate with the Museum s coordinator who will take care of the course of the Residency. 6 Duration of the project 1. Duration of one residency is 15 to 21 days. 2. The total duration of the project covers the period between October 2018, and October 2019, with the final presentation of the Residency being carried out in the following periods: a) October-November 2018; b) October The Museum accepts the possibility of changing or modifying the mode of implementation of Residency at the request of the Artist-In-Residence only on account of the specificity of the project carried out by the Artist-In-Residence. 4. 4 7 Selection criteria and schedule of the project 1. The preliminary selection of projects is made by a team consisting of the Museum s staff appointed by the Director. The decision is made on the basis of discussion during which the designated team takes into account: compliance with the objectives of the Residency Program; reference to the theme of the Residency cycle; inventiveness, uniqueness, creativity, novelty; the artist's past experience; implementation potential of the project, including the duration of the residency and the logistical and financial capabilities of the Museum. 2. The application should include the following: a) application card constituting Attachment 1 to these Rules; b) description of the project, containing both its idea, as well as the way in which the activities will be implemented, no longer than two standard A4 pages; c) preliminary estimate implementation budget; d) portfolio presenting the activities so far; 3. The final selection of projects to be implemented, based on preliminary objective and discussions with selected authors, is made by an interdisciplinary jury designated by the Museum. 5 8. The list of projects accepted for implementation will be announced on the Silesian Museum s website ( and by direct notification of the winner. 8 Terms of delivery of the projects 1. Works delivered to the Museum after the deadline specified in 3 item 2 or sent to address other than the one specified in 7 item 1 will not be examined and will be removed. 2. The Participant of the Program declares that the submitted work constitutes their sole property and does not infringe on the rights of third parties or the mandatory laws, and that the proposed project is new, original and has not been previously published. 3. Participants agree to provide their name and surname (or company name) and to the publication of the submitted project in the event of publication of the results of the Residency Program, as well as in publications and presentations of the Museum, including on the Museum's website and on social media. 9 Final provisions 1. The person authorised to correspond with the participants of the Program and to provide information on the Project shall be the coordinator of the Residency Program, Magdalena Czerny-Kehl, phone: , m.czerny@scenografia-polska.pl. 2. These Rules are the sole and exclusive document defining the terms and conditions of the Residency. 3. The Museum may exclude a participant from participation in Residency, if the works submitted by them: a) Do not comply with the rules of the Program; b) Appear to be identical or similar to works known before; c) Violate the copyrights of third parties; d) Ownership rights to them will not be transferred to the Museum, together with their economic property rights. 4. The Museum is not liable for any lost, incomplete, damaged or delayed applications for Residency. 5. The Museum is not responsible for problems with submitting applications containing a proposal for a project within the Residency. 6. Works submitted under the Residency are not returned to the participants. 7. The Museum reserves the right to correct the winning Residency, only after consultation with the author, in order to finalize the project for implementation. 5

6 8. The costs of preparing and submitting proposals within the Residency shall be borne solely by the participant. 9. In justified cases, the Museum reserves the right to change the rules and to revoke the Residency at any time, until the agreement with the Artist-In-Residence has been signed. 10. In matters not covered by these Rules, relevant provisions of the applicable law, in particular the Civil Code and the Act on Copyright and Related Rights, in force as at the date of signing the agreement, shall apply. 11. The Museum is not responsible for the copyright infringement of the project submitted to the Program. 12. Any disputes between the Museum and the participant of the Program will be dealt with by a common court having jurisdiction over the Museum's seat. 13. Participants in the Program agree to the processing of their personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act of 29 August 1997 (Journal of Laws of 2002, No. 101, item 926, as amended) for the purposes of the Program. 6
