1 WESTERN NEBRASKA COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION THREE-YEAR PLAN Mission Statement: The Western Nebraska Community College Foundation shall advance the mission and goals of Western Nebraska Community College by providing resources, both financial and professional, to enhance scholarship offerings, to provide growth opportunities, to support programs, and to plan for the future through special and capital projects. This will maintain the excellence of the College by expanding access and affordability to a superior learning environment for students. We enhance the competitiveness of the college through funding state-of-the-art facilities, scholarship opportunities, and academic programs for students. This will enhance the lives of community members, the quality of the college, and the communities it serves. Role of the Foundation members: Provide leadership to the organization Develop policies and guidelines related to the organization Help to set goals for the organization Offer direction and support of Assist in fundraising and fiduciary responsibility Provide internal and external communication with Foundation constituencies Page 1 of 9 As adopted by the of Directors 25,

2 Goal 1: Improve relationships with faculty and staff 1. Appoint a faculty and/or staff member (ex-officio) to the 2. Establish opportunities for members to get to know faculty and what they do Foundation Executive Director will submit three names to Foundation President for consideration Work with faculty association to allow our to meet with this group annually 3. 3 Goal 2: Communicate the Foundation s story, purpose and processes with the College 1. Request faculty/staff representative give regular reports to constituents 2. Prepare informative materials for college fall/spring assembly days Faculty/staff representative will give quarterly updates to their association meetings in reference to Foundation activities Ensure appropriate materials highlighting Foundation opportunities are available at all internal assemblies 3. Distribute annual report to college employees Publish annual report and ensure that it is distributed to college personnel both electronic and hardcopy Faculty/staff representative to the August / January 2009 June 2009 Page 3 of 9

4 Goal 3: Establish relationships with Sidney and Alliance 1. Contact Sidney Endowment Association, faculty and staff Meet with principals of Sidney Endowment Association regularly and visit Sidney community and campus at least quarterly 2. Contact within Alliance community Visit Alliance community and Alliance campus at least quarterly 3. Recruit board members from Cheyenne and Box Butte Counties (as noted in By-Laws) Appoint two board members from both Sidney and Alliance Executive Director/College President/WCCA of Governors Executive Director/College President/WCCA of Governors Foundation with input from July / ongoing April / ongoing Goal 4: Establish connection with alumni and college attendees 1. Develop alumni database Incorporate historical data related to alumni into Foundation database 2. Host activities to engage alumni Create annual or semiannual alumni opportunities College IT department/ August Summer 2009 Page 4 of 9

5 3. Create giving materials targeted to alumni; reintroduce alumni to the college Utilize created alumni database for fund drives and as an opportunity to showcase campus information 4. Develop electronic communication tools Utilize alumni database, Foundation website, and other means to connect electronically with alumni October Goal 5: Develop contact with current and prospective donors 1. Utilize existing database Continue to market giving opportunities to existing donors with more personalized contact 2. Create donor recognition efforts Utilize existing donor board, new annual report, and webbased recognition 3. 6 Goal 6: Endowment 1. Determine the need of a refresher course on planned giving strategies, i.e., purposes, structures. Yes or No Executive Committee 9/25/08 TBD 3/31/09 2. Develop prospect list prioritize by opportunity (age, size of gift, existing contributor, likelihood of obtaining gift, etc.) 3. Refine the contact strategy a. Why should someone give to the college? b. Who should be involved in the calling process, i.e., board members, friends, family or associates of potential contributor, others)? c. Establish realistic goals and timelines d. Assure timelines are met and measure results vs. goals e. Modify strategy, if needed 4. Determine feasibility of combining existing smaller contributor gifts so that scholarship grants to the College can be better targeted. a. Establish levels of future endowments one-time gifts of less than specified amount ($10,000 - $25,000) may need to be directed towards more general scholarship funds) Would such a strategy have a material impact on the Foundation s fundraising strategy? Evaluate existing endowment accounts for possible conversion to unrestricted status (upon approval of donors) Review annually Distribute materials (e.g., annual report, periodic newsletters, or in contact with existing and potential donors) explaining methods of establishing an endowment, as well as sources from which the funds can originate (life insurance proceeds, marketable securities) 15. Utilize actual testimonials (if accessible) from: a) A student or a department who has been the beneficiary of endowed funds, and/or b) The provider of the endowment in order to share the perspective of those who have established such a gift to the Foundation Page 7 of 9

Invite potential donors to a function that focuses on charitable giving 3. Establish a heritage society that recognizes those who have included the Foundation in their estate plans. a) Invite prospective members to a heritage society function 4.
