3 CHAIRMAN S MESSAGE Dear Friends, As we take stock of our achievements, we count our blessings that the work we do in MyKasih Foundation allows us to help the underprivileged live better. Since the Foundation s inception in 2009, we have reached out to close to 230,000 low-income households and students. I recall precious moments of meeting the families whose lives we have touched and it comforts me to know that our efforts are appreciated. I am deeply grateful to generous individuals and donors such as the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Dialog Group, Cenviro Group, Halliburton, JTI Malaysia, HSBC Malaysia, ConocoPhillips Malaysia, Chevron Malaysia, Linaco Group, Kajang Rocks Group, Perisai Petroleum, Giant, and many others, who continue to support MyKasih. These donors have entrusted us with their donations to feed families, educate children, conduct health screening activities, and train community members for economic development through entrepreneurship. We strongly believe in transparency, the very essence of the cashless welfare distribution system which our technology partner, epetrol Services, had developed to ensure that philanthropic funds reach targeted recipients and are used for their intended purposes. Renewal of support from donors is a testament of their confi dence in the Foundation s ability to deliver meaningful community programmes. It looks like 2017 will be yet another fulfi lling year of service, and on that note, I would like to welcome a new donor to the fold - Protasco Berhad. We strive to empower women to be emotionally-liberated, fi nancially independent and self-suffi cient. This year, we kicked off our 10th empowerment and entrepreneurship income-generation programme with 47 participants from the Mah Meri indigenous community in Carey Island, Selangor. We look forward to their graduation in March The Rotary Kasih student life transformation programme is now entering its third year. 800 primary and secondary students from 16 schools are fi nancially supported and mentored by dedicated Rotarians and teachers to help them achieve their fullest potential. Nine MyKasih youths who are currently pursuing their degrees at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, fully sponsored by Yayasan Cemerlang, will be graduating over the next two years. Keen to provide higher learning opportunities to more eligible MyKasih youths, the Trustees have agreed to put more focus and funds into education and scholarships. We hope that when the young are able to access and complete proper education, their future, and that of their family and future generations, will be brighter. My wife and I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported us, and continue to support us, in our mission to keep children in school and to lighten the burden of families who are struggling to make ends meet. 18 Programmes & Activities Chairman s Trust Health Carnival and Back-To-School aid distribution The delighted students posing with their Back-To-School kits. 100 MyKasih food aid recipient families from the Jah Hut Orang Asli community of Kampung Pian in Kuala Krau, Pahang, participated in a half-day health screening activity on 12 November 2016 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Penderas primary school. The community programme was a joint effort between MyKasih Foundation and the Kuala Krau Community Clinic, Kuala Krau Dental Health Offi ce, University Malaya s Dental Faculty, and SEGi University s Optometry Club to promote awareness on general health and wellbeing, and at the same time, identify potential cases which may require further medical attention. Poverty presents a barrier to building family and community resilience through nutritional security and is the single greatest factor in school dropouts. We hope that our donor partners recognise that their kindness and compassion in providing support through food aid, bursaries, and community health programmes would go a long way which can impact generations to come. This is the third consecutive year that MyKasih s Hong Kongbased donor partner CLSA Chairman s Trust, the charity arm of CLSA Capital Partners, has rendered assistance to the Jah Hut families of Kampung Pian in the form of food aid, Back-To-School support, and health screening programmes. That same day, 97 student benefi ciaries of the CLSAsponsored Love My School bursary scheme received Back- To-School items such as school bags, school uniforms, shoes and socks, sports attire, and stationery. This provided much fi nancial relief to families who would otherwise have had to spend an average of RM per school-going child on schooling necessities for the new academic year. MyKasih Foundation Chairman and Co-Founder, Tan Sri Dr Ngau Boon Keat, thanked CLSA Chairman s Trust for reaching out to the community, particularly school-going children. University Malaya s Dental Faculty gave away Self Mouth Examination Mirrors (SME Mirror) and taught the children how to use them when conducting a thorough oral check. This is especially important given the increasing incidence of oral cancer in Malaysia. 16 A publication by MyKasih Foundation

I believe in empowering students and encouraging fun learning. As soon as I heard of the Caltex Fuel Your School programme, I encouraged the teachers here to work together in putting a proposal for the benefi t of the school and students. Having won the project funds, we are now able to improve our computer lab and support the development of autonomous robotics software and accelerate the learning of our engineering module. We are all so thankful for this opportunity, but more importantly, the students have been given a motivational boost to learn, expressed Mickey Koh Meng Sei, a STEM Volunteer from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Raub. From the RM 250,000 funds raised, RM 18,000 was awarded to students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Chung Ching, Kuantan under the MyKasih Love My School student bursary programme. A presentation ceremony was held on 23 November 2016 at the school, during which, DIALOG unveiled a commemorative plaque to signify its contributions to the school via the MyKasih Love My School student bursary programme. SK Bukit Lanjan is a primary school located in Damansara Perdana, Selangor, less than a 10-minute drive from DIALOG s head offi ce in Mutiara Damansara. More than 80 percent of the students are of indigenous ethnicity and all come from economically-challenged backgrounds. DIALOG Director, Siti Khairon binti Shariff, who is also MyKasih Foundation Trustee said in her speech, We are blessed to be able to provide Back-To-School support for all the children of SK Bukit Lanjan, including the pre-schoolers who will be starting Primary Year One next year. I am glad to hear that the students enjoyed their shopping spree at Giant Kota Damansara yesterday. My advice to the students is to study hard and actively participate in cocurricular activities. I wish them all the best for 2017, she added. The plaque at SK Bukit Lanjan commemorating Dialog Group Berhad s adoption of the school. 22 A publication by MyKasih Foundation
