How to Enter 1. Complete one Official Entry Form and one Consent Form with each submission. 2. Submissions are to be entered under the Writing Categories given on the next page. (Maximum 1 submission per category) 3. Each person/group is limited to two entries. Please complete a separate set of forms for each entry. 4. All entries must be original. Anyone who submits a plagiarized entry will be disqualified from the contest. (Plagiarism is copying someone else s words or ideas and passing them off as your own.) 5. Only unpublished material can be submitted. 6. Submission deadline: 4 p.m., MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, Submissions will be available for pick-up at the gala. 2 How Entries Are Judged 1. The TBLN s collaborative members will judge the entries. 2. Submissions will be separated into age/writing categories and judged accordingly. 3. Each entry will be judged on creativity, structure, story-line, character and presentation. Language Categories Submissions are welcome in Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, English and French. Writing Categories Picture Book - a story told primarily through pictures. Fiction - a story that is MADE-UP by the author and that may or may not contain illustrations. Non-Fiction - a story that is TRUE about real things, people, places, and events, and that may or may not contain illustrations. Numeracy - a story that contains themes involving numbers. Examples include, but are not limited to, counting, measuring, spatial sense, patterning, probability and budgeting. Poetry - a piece of literature written in verse. Cultural Stories - shared traditional stories reflecting/celebrating your family s culture or background. This could include a story believed to be historical or an unverified story handed down from earlier times. Comic Book/Graphic Novel - a story illustrated in the form of a comic strip or cartoon/ a narrative related through a combination of text and art. 5 To Prospective Writers: To help you get started, here are some topics/themes you can write about: feelings, friendship, bullying, sports, culture, numbers, fantasy, family traditions and money. There are so many things you have seen and heard and experienced in your life there must be at least one story that you would like to share. We look forward to reading your adventures! To Parents /Guardians: Reading and writing with your child will strengthen your relationship. We encourage families to participate together in this literacy contest. Please take the time to work on this writing contest together make it a Family Literacy Event! You can help your children by providing them with the opportunities and the materials to work on their entries. Chatting with them about their ideas, offering story starters, and making suggestions for improvement will be very helpful as well. The interest you show in reading and writing will give your child a positive attitude towards these important life skills. Enter for Chance to Win a $ R.E.S.P.!
