On behalf of the Business Career Centre, it is our pleasure to partner with the Commerce Society to showcase their vast array of conferences, competitions and associations. Extra-curricular involvement and leadership is an integral part of student life at the School of Business and is a key strength that sets our students apart. We welcome you to peruse this book to get a feel for the areas that could be a match with your business. These student groups are always looking for corporate participation as guest speakers, panelists, judges, and sponsors to provide real-world industry knowledge and depth. This exposure to the business community is not only invaluable learning for our students but is also an opportunity for them to showcase their initiative, research and passion for an industry. 4 Queen s Commerce Society page 3 OVERVIEW MISSION To enhance the Queen s Commerce experience by representing student interests, inspiring leadership and empowering students to pursue their passions VISION To be the most respected and innovative faculty society, while providing ever increasing opportunities that enable all students to realize their full potential stablished in 1967, the Queen s Commerce Society, or ComSoc for short, is a member of the Alma Mater Society (AMS) at Queen s University. With over 33 committees and 18 worldclass conferences, we are the largest and most successful business student government in Canada. Run entirely by Commerce Students enrolled at the Queen s School of Business, ComSoc is composed of: Elected Executives Assembly members (appointed and elected) Commissioners & duputy commissioners (appointed) Chairs and Co-chairs of ComSoc committees (appointed) and Student members of the Queen s Commerce Society Members of the Queen s Commerce Society (all Commerce students) elect the elected members of Assembly. Appointed members are hired based on their skills, talents, and abilities to fulfill and go beyond their duties. The Queen s Commerce Society plays a major role in the life of a Commerce Student, from supporting recruiting and networking opportunities with companies, to enriching the time and experience of students through unparalleled social events. ComSoc has four internal commissions, with each commission and its committees focused on an aspect of the student experience within the business school. ComSoc s external committees and organizations focus on externally arranged activities such as business conferences and competitions. The elected executives act as a voice to Commerce Students, providing support and representation within the general assembly.

8 Queen s Commerce Society page 7 CONFERENCES COMMERCE & ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE The Commerce & Engineering Environmental Conference (CEEC) is Canada s premier undergraduate conference on sustainability, creating a forum for 130 of the country s future leaders and innovators to become inspired to drive environmental change in the emerging green sector. Exposure to transformative technologies and ideas through a series of focused panel sessions and speakers, exciting competitions, collaborative events and outstanding networking opportunities are all at the core of the CEEC experience. By leveraging the integral ties between diverse students from Commerce, Engineering and Arts & Science backgrounds, we aim to highlight the multi-disciplinary approach needed to overcome challenges and develop solutions for a more sustainable world. QUEEN S ADVANCING CANADIAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP QACE has only one mission: to keep moving. Create The Future encompasses the most important aspects of QACE s entrepreneurial premise as it communicates the need for continuous improvements in a highly demanding society, encouraging students to identify and solve problems we didn t even know we had. The QACE executive has set out to change the way entrepreneurship is perceived by students, striving to provide the tools and recruitment opportunities so that our delegates along with their passions, ideas and careers can keep moving forward. Our mantra is simple: Just imagine the future you want then create it. QUEEN S CONFERENCE ON THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTAL TODAY Since our inception in 1976, QBET has endeavored to connect business students with the companies and professionals changing the face of global commerce for a weekend of unique learning and networking opportunities. QBET s mission is to provide a niche opportunity for companies to network directly with business students from a variety of different specialties; generating a well-rounded delegate pool of future professionals, from the brightest finance minds, to the most creative marketing talents. QUEEN S RETAIL FORUM QRF, recently rebranded from the Queen s Business Forum on the Fashion Industry, has a mission to continually educate undergraduate students across Canada on the retail industry and empower their career success within it. We achieve this through three pillars; the QRF conference, events throughout the year, and original online material. We aim to provide the best opportunities and network connections in order to build meaningful and lasting relationships between aspiring retail executives and our corporate partners.

9 page 8 Queen s Commerce Society QUEEN S COMMERCE AUTOMOTIVE REPRESENTATIVES QCAR was established in January 2014 with the mission of providing students with learning and employment opportunities in the automotive industry. It is the first commerce related student-run automotive association in Canada and plans to engage students, sponsors and speakers from across the country. Our conference takes place in February and offers students a unique opportunity to network with professionals from various facets of the automotive industry. QUEEN S CONFERENCE ON BUSINESS & MINING Established in 2015, Queen s Conference on Business and Mining (QCBM) is Canada s premier student-run conference that focuses on the business aspect of the mining industry. Being the first of its kind, the 2-day conference strives to connect 100 of the brightest students with experts in the respective profession. Through interactive workshops, engaging discussions, and networking opportunities with corporate leaders, undergraduate students have the chance to discover the current issues pertaining to the mining sector. QUEEN S CONFERENCE ON THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY The Queen s Conference on the Entertainment Industry is an annual conference that showcases the management and organizational structure within the entertainment industry. Being one of the first conferences of its kind, QCEI s goal is to connect students with professionals working in the industry and ultimately inspire them to pursue their passions in entertainment. The conference will consist of speaker panels and keynotes from influential leaders, engaging workshops, and special events to highlight all the different sides of the entertainment industry. QUEEN S CONFERENCE ON INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS QCIB is Canada s premiere International Business conference, taking place each January in Toronto. The conference provides tomorrow s business leaders with the opportunity to learn from industry experts, network with global professionals, and develop negotiation and case study skills through hands on simulations and engagement. As a truly international conference, QCIB welcomes delegates from schools across the globe, as far away as Australia and Taiwan.

10 Queen s Commerce Society page 9 QUEEN S COMMERCE LEADERSHIP SUMMIT The Queen s Commerce Leadership Summit is driven to help ambitious Queen s Commerce students become the next generation of great business leaders.qcls is focused on uniting the most passionate student leaders at Queen s University for a 3 day conference focused on improving and fulfilling their leadership potential. With a framework built around diverse and relevant insight, a high level of delegate interaction with sponsors and speakers, and the development of practical skills through interactive workshops, QCLS aims to serve aspiring business leaders as the most valuable conference Queen s has to to offer. QUEEN S FINANCE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE The Queen s Finance Association Conference (QFAC) is held annually in downtown Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The generous support from our dedicated partners and inspirational speakers allows us to present a unique experience for our delegates. This year, QFAC continues to raise the bar and set the standard for student-run conferences not only at Queen s, but also across the country. Our mission is twofold: bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world of finance, and be regarded as the networking opportunity of the year. QUEEN S LEADERSHIP, EXCELLENCE & DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE The Queen s Leadership, Excellence and Development Conference (QLEAD) began in 2001, and has since grown into one of the premier leadership conferences in Canada. Today, it attracts high-school students from across the country interested in all aspects of leadership and pursuing a career in business. QLEAD features keynote speakers, interactive workshops, a dynamic business case challenge and an innovative business simulation, which combine together to give a true taste of the Queen s Commerce experience.on top of the Queen s exposure is a focus on developing leadership skills, and helping these talented young minds unleash their potential to be game changers at school, in their communities, and in their careers going forward. QUEEN S MARKETING ASSOCIATION The QMA exists to inspire and educate the next generation of marketing leaders. Our goal is to provide valuable resources to future marketing leaders from across Canada. QMA annually organizes the Queen s Marketing Association Conference (QMAC), Canada s premier undergraduate marketing conference. QMAC unites 130 of the most brilliant marketing minds from across the country, providing them with the opportunity to not only interact and engage with peers, but also some of the most influential individuals and companies in the field of marketing!

11 page 10 Queen s Commerce Society QUEEN S SELF EVALUATIVE LEARNING FORUM Rather than focusing on any specific stream of business, QSELF explores topics related to an individual s personal growth and provides strategies and information to facilitate in the creation of a balanced and fulfilling life. The two day conference will equip delegates with the necessary tools to help strengthen their sense of self, gain their work-life balance, increase their motivation and critical thinking skills, and learn how to deal with the inevitable challenges of life. QUEEN S SPORTS INDUSTRY CONFERENCE Queen s Sports Industry Conference (QSIC) is a three-day forum aimed at exposing and providing opportunities to passionate and motivated university students with a common interest in the sports industry. The sports industry is notorious for being tremendously exclusive and fast-paced in nature. Last year, QSIC was recognized by the Commerce Society as Conference of the Year after a highly successful rebrand. QSIC provides delegates with the opportunity to get their foot in the door and presents the opportunity to speakers and sponsors to build relationships with some of the top university student in North America that have a true passion for the sports industry. The conference consists of the Case Classic, a series of Workshops, the notable Simulation Saturday, and lastly a series of Panelists, and featured Keynote Speakers. After a revolutionary 2015 conference, QSIC has established a reputation as Canada s premier undergraduate business and sports symposium. QUEEN S WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Q.WIL is an organization and conference run by a team of nineteen Queen s School of Business students. Each year, Q.WIL attracts the best and brightest young minds from not only Queen s University, but also other premier universities across the country. Through listening to inspirational speakers, participating in interactive workshops and networking with some of North America s leading businesswomen, Q.WIL works to empower young women to pursue success in their workplaces. Q.WIL has also hosted a number of industry-leading speakers over its tenure, including Arlene Dickinson (CEO, Venture Communications and host of Dragon s Den), Christine Magee (President, Sleep Country Canada), Sarah Davis (CFO, Loblaw Companies Limited), and Pamela Jeffrey (Founder, Women s Executive Network).

13 page 12 Queen s Commerce Society COMPETITIONS INTER-COLLEGIATE BUSINESS COMPETITION The Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (I.C.B.C.) is Canada s oldest and most prestigious case competition commanding attention from the world s most reputable universities. In its inaugural year in 1978, I.C.B.C. was a one-day competition hosted for 10 Canadian Universities. Today, the competition has evolved to include a Preliminary Round and a Final Round, 8 spectacular competitive streams, and over 100 universities from around the world. Since 2008 I.C.B.C. has also hosted the annual Queen s Case Competition, an internal case competition welcoming all Commerce students. DECA QUEEN S DECA Queen s is the fastest-paced case competition with an emphasis on creativity, presentation, and analytical skills. Delegates compete in a high-intensity environment with less than 40 minutes to prepare an in-depth analysis and a concise and practical solution to a unique business challenge. DECA Queen s features its flagship event every November: the DECA Queen s Invitational. This three-day conference and case competition offers 150 University students from across Ontario and Quebec the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to business simulations. Furthermore, this conference will offer students career development workshops and networking events. DECA Queen s also hosts the Internal Case Competition, which allows students to apply their skills against other students within the university. QUEEN S COMMERCE CORPORATE CHALLENGE The Queen s Commerce Corporate Competition is one of the most extensive case competitions in Canada. Our dynamic competition aims to foster relationships between our talented competitors and valued partners. In helping shape the next generation of business leaders, Q3C focuses on developing and honing critical skills through its challenging events and fast-paced case round twists. Competitors consistently enjoy their experience with Q3C, having had the opportunity to participate in a unique style of case competition with twists, as well as meet company representatives who help them further improve their analysis and presentation skills. The competition is open to Queen s Commerce students as well as external delegates from other top undergraduate business schools in Canada. QUEEN S ENTREPRENEURS COMPETITION The New York Times calls the QEC one of the longest-running and best-known undergraduate business plan competitions in the world and each year the competition receives numerous business plan submissions from around the globe. The top 15 teams are selected and invited to Toronto to present their business plans to a panel of Canadian business leaders. There are over $60,000 worth of prizes awarded throughout the final weekend. The QEC final weekend never fails to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas, unparalleled innovation, and the beginnings of new relationships!

15 page 14 Queen s Commerce Society INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS QUEEN S ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATION Queen s Accounting Association is an internal committee that acts as the liaison between students and recruiters from a variety of accounting firms including Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC and various CPA Training Offices. Our events offer students the opportunity to create lifelong connections with industry professionals while developing their soft skills in a hands-on environment. We aim to guide students who are interested in an accounting career through the recruiting process by offering application and interview tips, information on required accounting pre-requisites, and a chance to connect with older students who have succeeded in obtaining summer internship positions. QAA opens doors to immeasurable opportunities and is your source for everything accounting. QUEEN S BUSINESS REVIEW The Queen s Business Review (QBR) is a print and digital publication managed by a group of undergraduate students from Queen s University. Bringing their unique perspective to a range of issues, our writers produce engaging and thoughtful content that captures the attention of readers far beyond the campus where the publication is based. Inside QBR, you will find articles on topics including business strategy, finance, policy, economics, technology, and marketing, as well as exclusive interviews with industry executives and Queen s alumni. In addition to editorial talent, our team includes students who lead the artistic and graphical elements of production, as well as those who manage the sales and sponsorship, IT, and linguistic functions. QUEEN S COMMERCE LAW ASSOCIATION Queen s Commerce Law Association (QCLA) is the first ComSoc-ratified association dedicated to educating business students about law. We foster interest and promote non-traditional career paths beyond the typical avenues of finance, consulting, marketing, and accounting. QCLA also acts as a bridge for students through facilitating connections with the Canadian legal community. Through an engaging series of speakers and interactive workshops on topics ranging from criminal, corporate, M&A, environmental, labour and entertainment law, QCLA provides an opportunity for students to get a glimpse of what it would be like as a professional in the legal industry. Not only do we provide educational resources and guidance for those interested in law school and legal careers, but we also work to expose all Commerce students to the far-reaching impacts of law and legal processes on virtually all aspects of business. QUEEN S REAL ESTATE ASSOCATION The Queen s Real Estate Association is an industry association that introduces and promotes real estate career opportunities for students within the Queen s School of Business. QRA hosts value driven events that allow Queen s students to interact and gain a comprehensive perspective on the various aspects of the industry. These events include both informative speakers and recruiting sessions with Canada s top real estate firms.

16 Queen s Commerce Society page15 QUEEN S CONSULTING ASSOCIATION The Queen s Consulting Association connects the brightest students from all faculties to companies in the consulting industry and was recognized by the Commerce Society as the Internal Association of the Year in It serves as the catalyst for aspiring consultants and presents opportunities for students in the form of industry visits, guides, case preparation sessions and more. Founded in 2011 as part of the Commerce Society, the Queen s Consulting Association s goal is to offer its members the highest quality resources, training, networking and recruiting opportunities so that they can reach and expand their potential. Today, Queen s Consulting Association alumni are in some of the top management consulting firms around the world. QUEEN S GLOBAL MARKETS Queen s Global Markets (QGM) is an undergraduate economic think-tank dedicated to the advancement of economic and public policy knowledge. Teams are organized into six regions: Canada & USA, Latin America, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia Pacific and China. Each team publishes reports and presentations on their region, which are available through the QGM website (qgm.ca). In addition, QGM hosts weekly seminars featuring insight and analysis based on these works. We welcome the public to take part in our dialogue. Since being ratified under the Commerce Society in 2012, QGM has become known for the unique role it plays in the Queen s Commerce community. It is the only student organization in the Queen s School of Business that is solely dedicated to the advancement of economic and public policy knowledge. QUEEN S HUMAN RESOURCES ASSOCIATION The Queen s Human Resources Association was created to establish Human Resources as a viable career path at Queen s. It facilitates on-campus recruiting with top firms, provides informative speakers, offers events to enhance related skills, and provides career-oriented opportunities to assist students in achieving their goals. With the Talent Decade rapidly approaching, it is becoming increasingly important for top firms to employ high-level strategic thinkers as their Human Resources managers. The role of Human Resources managers is no longer simply handling payroll and benefits, but is also maintaining compliance with legal and employment regulations, and employing best practices for hiring and retention. Our goal as an association is to connect high level Human Resources passionate students with top tier firms looking to acquire the best possible talent. QUEEN S PRIVATE CAPTIAL GROUP QPCG s mission is to provide students with a practical knowledge of Venture Capital / Private Equity and to facilitate their transition into careers within the industry. We provide financial advisory services such as research and valuation for real-world private equity and venture capital firms.

17 page 16 Queen s Commerce Society QUEEN S COMMERCE TRADING COMPETITION The Queen s Commerce Trading Competition is a six month trading competition perfect for any student with an interest in the capital markets and the sales and trading industry. Whether you are inexperienced with thefinancial markets or a veteran trader, QCTC is a great place to try out some new investing strategies or skills. At the end of the year over $2500 in prizes are given out, with a grand prize of $1000 to the top trader. In addition, prizes for the best buy and hold, option play and many others are given out. QCTC also holds numerous interactive events including a stock pitch competition, tutorials, bi-weekly market commentaries, and speaker events. The QCTC Gala is the final event at the end of March which recognizes competition winners and provides excellent networking opportunities. QUEEN S SALES INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION QSIA s mission can be described in three pillars: education, development, and connection. First, we strive to educate students by providing them with an accurate representation of the sales industry and opportunities that are available within it. Second, we work to develop skills that are not only necessary to succeed within the industry itself, but also skills that are integral to success in whatever career a commerce student may pursue. Finally, we are always looking for ways to connect students with alumni and corporate partners to expand their network and help them advance their job search. If you are interested in getting involved with the Queen s Commerce community, networking with students to prepare them for their future careers and attracting top sales talent; let us sell you on partnering with QSIA.
