3 Goal The goal is to deliver a design proposal to exhibit a 23 X6 X1.5 portion of an A320 wing. Vision Our vision is the final display will create an interactive experience and be a mix of sculpture and practicality used as the focal point of the Airbus office lobby. The display should be aesthetically pleasing like a work of art, yet interesting and unique like an exhibit at an interactive museum. The display should be of interest to everyone, yet in-depth enough to fascinate learning of the more inquisitive. The exhibit should embrace the style of its surroundings. It should also provide some means of explanation to a casual observer, and independent learning opportunities for the more curious. The display should provide the opportunity for discovery and to share the piece s functionality, design techniques, and history. 3

8 Judging Criteria Each submission should be in the form of a project plan and will be judged on the content and completeness against the following three criteria: Quality (60 points) Design How many of the wing design elements are highlighted? How is the wing structurally supported and where is it in the facility? How well does it blend with its surroundings? Aesthetics Is the wing artfully displayed? Functionality Is the display easy to understand and interact with? Teaching tool Does the display provide the opportunity for learning? Security Is the display safe to view and touch or operate? Delivery (20 points) Project plan What are the major steps, time requirements, and interdependences required to successfully complete the project? Time Scale What is the estimated time required to complete the project if funded? Resource - What types of skills, tools and material are required to manufacturer the display. Who could be involved to work on the project? Cost (20 points) Bill of Materials Provide a list of all the major parts, hardware, and equipment required to implement the idea. Budget Entries should estimate cost of project. Entries will be judged on perceived value. Contest rules may be amended. Decision of the judges is final. 8

9 FAQ 1. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? 1. Any WSU student (undergraduate and graduate) or 2. Any team of WSU students. 2. WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE? Entries are accepted thru 4:00pm April 3. No exceptions will be made for late entries and the entry submitted is final. 3. WHERE DO I TURN IN AN ENTRY? In person - at the Airbus front desk weekdays 8:00 am 4:00 pm. A proposal to refurbish and mount a section of an Airbus A320 wing which is to be displayed in the lobby of the Airbus building. 9

10 FAQ 5. IS THERE A REWARD? The contest winner(s) will be announced on April 27, Award will consist of an A320 model airplane and $2000 cash! A plaque will also be displayed on the finished product with the winning team names or individual s name. 6. WHO CAN I CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION? WHO S THE JUDGE? A panel from the Airbus Management Team will make the final decision. Finalists may be asked to give a presentation to the panel. The contest winner(s) will be announced on April 27, WHERE CAN I SEE THE WING? The main section of the wing is located in the North side of the Experiential Engineering Building (EEB) lobby. The remainder of the parts are still in storage. 10
