Project Description 5. Project title (up to 15 words)* The title should clearly represent the project and articulate the importance and/or goals of the project. 6. Provide an overview of the proposed project.* (up to 250 words) The overview should be written in the third person. Please use clear and concise language, avoid using specialized terminology or jargon. It should be written in a way that is understandable to a general audience and/or someone unfamiliar with the project or the topic(s) involved. It should describe: Basic project background or context: Why does this project need to be done? Why is it important and what is its relevance to society? What opportunity, challenge, issue, or need would the project address? Major project goals/objectives: What outcomes does the project aim to achieve in relation to the context? General project plan: How will the project achieve its goals? How will the project be carried out? What tasks and activities will be involved? One of the uses of the overview is to assist with selection of reviewers, so it should provide sufficient detail from the above categories to assist with that task.
8 It is recommended that the main concept behind the project be at least previewed or initially articulated in the first sentence or two of the overview to facilitate review. 7. Describe how the proposed project is relevant to the RFA.*Please address the following: Scientific and environmental literacy (up to 100 words) How will this project seek to foster the development of the scientific and environmental literacy, skills, competencies, and capabilities that are critical to cultivating a next generation of informed citizens, scientists, engineers, and decision-makers? Service-, project-, or problem- based learning opportunities (up to 100 words) How will this project incorporate service-, project-, or problem- based learning opportunities that actively engage students in solving real-world problems? Relevance to the Gulf Research Program Pick One Initiative: Healthy Ecosystems Thriving Communities Safer Offshore Energy Systems Relevance to Selected Initiative (up to 150 words) How will the proposed project contribute to building Healthy Ecosystems, Thriving Communities, or Safer Offshore Energy Systems as described in the Initiatives of the Gulf Research Program?

Provide a detailed description of the proposed project.* (up to 3,000 words) Provide a clear statement of the work to be undertaken, including: A detailed description of the project goals and objectives that addresses what you want to do and why you want to do it. An implementation strategy that demonstrates the feasibility of the project. This should address: o o o How you plan to execute the project, including an overall strategy and methodology that are well-reasoned and appropriate to accomplish the specific aims of the project. Why you expect the proposed project to be effective (e.g., the rationale and any evidence supporting the anticipated effectiveness of the proposed project). Any partnerships that will be pertinent to implementing the project. A clear description of how the project intends to use science and/or environmental education to empower students to address chronic or emerging challenges facing their communities. How the proposed project would advance students scientific and environmental literacy through relation to the present state of knowledge in the field, to work in progress by the applicant under other support, and to work in progress elsewhere. If key personnel other than the project director are included in the project, a description of each person's role. 9. Describe the project s anticipated outputs and potential outcomes.* (up to 500 words) Please describe: Anticipated outputs of the proposed project, including development of curricula or other products, and Potential outcomes for specific communities, society, and science

Briefly describe the demographics of the population you expect this project to serve.* (up to 100 words) Describe the population your project expects to serve, including any relevant statistics. References may be cited in Section 13, References Cited. 11. Describe your preliminary evaluation plan.* (up to 500 words) To facilitate the evaluation of educational programming, all applicants must outline the design components expected to be included in the program/project evaluation. Applicants also will be required to provide evidence that a qualified program evaluator has been identified and budgeted into the project or include an in-house evaluation expert as key personnel. In addition, applicants should provide details on any anticipated information products (i.e., curriculum, training materials, videos, etc.) that may be developed through this project and how those products may be disseminated for continued use. Evaluation Design Guidance documents are provided to applicant on the funding opportunity webpage to assist applicants with identifying budget and personnel requirements to fulfill their evaluation needs if awarded. Full evaluation plans will be designed per project by a relevant expert and submitted to the Gulf Research Program to review within three months of contract award date. If awarded, the Gulf Research Program will also review evaluation plans and progress at reporting periods throughout the grant period. 12. Does the proposed project involve research on human subjects or the use of human-subjects data?* Yes No
11 All projects involving human subjects must have approval from an institutional review board (IRB), unless they qualify for an exemption from IRB review, before an award can be made. Where IRB approval is required, proposers should file their proposal with their IRB at the same time the proposal is submitted to the Gulf Research Program, so that the approval procedure will not delay the award process. A proposal may be submitted to the Gulf Research Program without IRB approval; but if the proposal is selected for funding, award will be made conditional upon IRB approval within 60 days of the notice of conditional award. If a proposed project involving human subjects is exempt from human subjects regulations [see 45 CFR (b)], the applicant must provide documentation that an IRB (or some authority other than the project director or key personnel) has declared the project exempt from the human subjects regulations. Documentation should include the specific category justifying the exemption. 13. References Cited* Reference information is required. If there are no references cited, a statement to that effect should be included in this section of the proposal. Please be especially careful to follow accepted scholarly practices in providing citations for source materials relied upon when preparing any section of the proposal. Each reference must include the names of all authors (in the same sequence in which they appear in the publication), the article and journal title, book title, volume number, page numbers, and year of publication. If the document is available electronically, the website address also should be identified. While there is no established page limitation for the references, this section must include bibliographic citations only and must not be used to provide parenthetical information outside of word limits of other sections. III. Project Budget 14. Total budget requested* Minimum Request: $75,000
