3 SFTP Summary Partners: Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company partnering with 10 country Space Agencies to source and select international engineering students to participate in a five month Space Fundamentals Training Program. In addition, students will have access to multiple partner organizations and leaders in the space industry. Classroom Instruction: Content will be delivered via an online platform in advance of the students on-campus engagement, allowing them to maximize their time with mentors onsite in Denver and Washington, DC. Students will receive instruction and mentoring from some of Space Systems Company s brightest engineers in both civil and commercial space. Professional development will be key in developing a well rounded SFTP graduate so they are work force ready. Alumni & Mentors: Students will remain engaged with SFTP alumni and mentors well beyond the program. 3

5 SFTP Scope Part I: Online curriculum and program launch June 20 July 15 Online welcome and launch of SFTP Students will engage in online curriculum developed by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and industry experts. Students will have set milestones each week to complete prior to entering Phase II Part II: Instruction July 25 August 5 Students will spend two-weeks in Denver, CO focusing on space education and professional development at the Space Foundation, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. Part III: Inside the Beltway August 8 August 12 Students will spend one-week in Washington D.C. developing their networking skills and visiting various LM stakeholders. Part IV: Practicum (the practicum begins in phase I and ends October 10) Students will get hands-on learning, using existing Lockheed Martin tools and partners. 7 SFTP Student Profile Application Requirements: International, US-based students with a valid F-1 visa that is active throughout the program for F-1 OPT status through the institution s Designated School Official. Must be an undergraduate second or third year student in good standing, currently attending an accredited US University or College maintaining a 3.0 Grade Point Average. Proficient in English oral and written communication and presentation skills. Student must have completed their first year in college and majoring in Engineeringrelated fields. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Student must be able to complete the entire duration of the program without missing more than two consecutive business days. Student must be able to pass all Lockheed Martin security screening and background checks prior to beginning the program. We are seeking students who are motivated, flexible, and high-performers future leaders both in their university environment and back in their home countries. 7

9 Space Fundamentals Training Program Dear Candidate, We are excited to offer you an exceptional opportunity to be a part of continuing to build the thriving KSA space industry through an undergraduate training program sponsored by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (LMSSC). This program offers participants the opportunity to gain a foundational space education, work directly with world class engineers, and participate in tours and shadowing activities at facilities that are the bedrock of the US space program. In addition to academic work, students will be mentored so they are able to develop their leadership, communication, organization and management qualities. This program is a continuation of the 2015 Space Fundamentals training pilot program sponsored by Lockheed Martin. A training video for this program can be found here. The 2016 course is made up of four main elements: Part I: Online curriculum and program launch, 20 June-22 July (remote participation); this portion will be self-guided with personal mentors answering specific questions. Part II: In-person Instruction: Space Systems Company, 25 July-5 August (Denver, CO); in-person classroom training, mentoring, shadowing, and immersive experiences at Lockheed Martin facilities, along with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and Space Foundation; this portion will also include networking events and professional development seminars; WorldDenver will support all off-campus logistics, including culturally appropriate home-stay housing, transportation, and most meals; students who successfully finish this program will also be presented with a certificate of completion during this time. Part III: Inside the Beltway, 8-12 August (Washington, DC); students will spend oneweek in Washington D.C. developing their networking skills, visiting various LM stakeholders, and other cultural and space-related facilities. Part IV: Practicum, Part I course completion (remote); students will gain hands-on learning through all parts and apply it to an individual research initiative to be presented in some fashion during World Space Week (4-10 October) Costs. Costs associated with in-person participation (including domestic airfare, lodging, and most meals) will be covered by Lockheed Martin; all international airfare and other personal travel costs will be borne by the participant. Applicants must meet the following criteria: Must be an undergraduate second or third year student in good standing, currently attending an accredited US University or College maintaining a 3.0 in the subject matter referenced in part (4) of this list. Must be at least 18 years of age. Proficient in English oral and written communication and presentation skills. Must have a valid F-1 visa status throughout the program for F-1 OPT status through the academic institution s Designated School Official (DSO) or International Student Services Office. Student must have completed their first year in college and majoring in Engineeringrelated fields with an emphasis in any one of the following: aerospace, aeronautical, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical or software engineering or development and testing, advanced materials, nanotechnology, solar and space physics, energy sciences, computer science, thermal and energy sciences. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Student must be able to complete the entire duration of the program without missing more than two consecutive business days; however, illness, medical, religious and family issues are exempted from this requirement. Student must be able to pass all Lockheed Martin security screening and background checks prior to beginning the program. If the student is unable to pass any one screening, Lockheed Martin can repudiate the candidate. All applicants must submit the following for candidate pre-approval and security screenings: application form, candidate information form, resume or CV, statement of interest written by the candidate, two letters of recommendation, proof of F-1 visa status, copy of valid passport. Upon admission to the program, students must sign a code of conduct, liability release, non-disclosure agreement (NDA), and appearance release agreement (authorizing use of names, photos, etc ), along with any additional paperwork as required by Lockheed Martin and partner organizations.
