4 Ambition and Audience Climate action at unprecedented speed and scale is essential to avoid the effects of a 2-degree warmer world and to meet the Paris climate commitments. Traditional forms of concessional finance will not be sufficient to fund the investment required for a transition to a low-carbon future. 6 Sustainability is at the Heart of Innovate4Climate Innovate4Climate is a carbon neutral event. It strives for environmental sustainability by using low-carbon products and services together with carbon offsets to eliminate its carbon footprint. The event is held at Frankfurt Messe s Kap Europa, the first convention centre to be awarded Platinum certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council. The award recognizes exceptional ecological standard. Kap Europa is also the first convention centre in Germany to be listed in the Green Venue Report, an industry-wide initiative to provide benchmarking data, catalyse best practices, and stimulate competition around global convention and exhibition centre sustainability. For this event, Kap Europa is adhering to the Right and Fair code of practice created by the German Convention Bureau e.v. (GCB) and the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC), which aims to ensure that events are organized in a sustainable way.

7 A Successful Partnership Hosted by The World Bank Group (WBG) is providing approximately $64.2 billion in loans, grants, investments and guarantees to partner countries and private businesses in 2016, pursuing the mission of ending extreme poverty and building shared prosperity in the world. Climate change is a threat to the core mission of the World Bank Group. As a leader in the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, the Bank Group created the first carbon fund, and today, it acts as a trustee of 19 carbon initiatives. These funds reached a total fund allocation in access of $3 billion and have successfully delivered almost 200 million tons of CO2eq emission reductions. The World Bank Group is a leader in shaping the next generation of climate finance and markets and is extending its climate-related portfolio to 28 percent by 2020, to reach potentially $29 billion annually by 2020 to help developing countries deliver on their national climate strategies. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) is responsible for a range of government policies which are reflected in the name of the ministry itself. For more than 30 years the Ministry has worked to protect the public from environmental toxins and radiation and establish an intelligent and efficient use of raw materials; it has advanced climate action and promoted a use of natural resources that conserves biodiversity and secures habitats. BMUB is responsible within the German government for climate policy on the national, European and international levels. Its activities range widely from domestic climate policy to the international climate negotiations under the UNFCCC. Germany is taking an active role in realizing the agreed commitments by enhancing its own activities and supporting other parties in their efforts to mitigate and adapt to the impacts climate change. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is responsible for the German development cooperation implemented by GIZ and KfW as well as by international organizations, partnering with private sector and civil society. BMZ accounts for approximately 90 per cent of Germany's international climate finance. It is supporting action in climate change mitigation and adaption through bilateral programs in over 60 partner countries to jointly achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement, recognizing that climate change is jeopardizing sustainable development. To trigger transformational investments, BMZ supports the creation of enabling environments and the set-up of innovative financial instruments that help mobilize the private sector for climate action. In addition to bilateral programs, Germany has launched and supported a number of major global initiatives. The NDC Partnership promotes coordination and exchange at national and international level to improve cooperation between the different stakeholders to facilitate NDC implementation. InsuResilience, for which Germany partners up with civil society, the insurance industry and development banks, seeks to insure 400 million poor, particularly vulnerable people against the consequences of climate change. Together with others, Germany also supports the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) which is set to achieve at least 10 GW of new and additional renewable energy generation capacity by 2020, and at least 300 GW by

8 A Successful Partnership The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), is the Government of Spain ministerial department responsible for proposing and implementing national policies in the areas of fighting against climate change, sustainable rural development, and the protection of natural heritage, biodiversity and sea. It is also responsible for proposing and implementing national policies on water, agriculture, forestry, fishing and food industry. The Ministry, through the Secretary of State of the Environment and more specifically through the Spanish Climate Change Office, develops climate change policies and leads and coordinates the execution of all the responsibilities of the Spanish policy to fight against the causes and effects of climate change. The implementation of climate change policies and measures in the last years has also involved national and international climate finance innovative initiatives as well as initiatives promoting the mobilization of private sector and civil society in order to boost the transformation of current consumption and production models towards a more sustainable ones. At the international level, climate finance is channelled through multilateral institutions and bilateral instruments, with the aim of promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation projects and programs in partner countries. Climate finance contributes to the transition towards low-carbon economies, technology transfer and wealth and prosperity in local communities. Spain, as the rest of the EU Member States, is committed to help developing countries cope with the effects of climate change and the transition to a low-carbon development path. Spain is also a keen active partner in international initiatives that provide support to prepare and implement climate change mitigation policies including carbon pricing instruments in order to scale up GHG mitigation. Carbon pricing is considered a key instrument to shifting the social costs of climate change to the source of the pollution, encouraging polluters to reduce emissions and invest in clean energy and low-carbon growth. In collaboration with Fira de Barcelona is one of the most important trade fair organizations in Europe, both in terms of the size and quality of the shows and congresses it hosts, as well as its reputation as a leading and highly professional organization. Fira s venues host historical external events such as Mobile World Congress and in-house events, such as Carbon Expo and Smart City Expo World Congress. Event partner IETA is a leading non-profit business organization serving companies engaged in the field of carbon markets. Its objective is to build international policy and market frameworks for reducing greenhouse gases at the lowest cost. Its vision is a global carbon price produced by markets of high environmental integrity. IETA pursues this vision with an eye on pragmatism, political reality and sound economics.
