1 GRANT INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES INTRODUCTION The following guidelines are designed to furnish you--the grant seeker--with the information necessary to apply for a grant. These guidelines offer general guidance, and are not a guaranteed prescription for success in obtaining a grant. Ultimately, each proposal is evaluated on its potential value to the children served by and your local ; funding available for disbursement; and the quality of planning, leadership, support and vision expressed in the application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss prospective proposal ideas with Board Members before submitting an application. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A GRANT The seeks to assist, its Challenger Division and the local chartered s that encompass. Assistance is provided in the form of grants for projects that will improve the quality, safety and environment for the children that are members of. Grant applications are reviewed three times each year. Deadlines for submission of completed applications are March 1st, June 1st and Sept. 1st of each calendar year. All applicants to District 8 are encouraged to call in advance to discuss proposal concepts as we may request a meeting prior to proposal development. We will always review draft proposals, which should be submitted no less than 60 days prior to formal submittal. We accept submission of drafts and applications by , but do request that for formal submissions an original and six copies be submitted via regular mail as well. Faxed applications are not accepted. See guidelines for specific formats.

2 In general, review of grants can take approximately 1-2 months. Please be aware that funding is a competitive process and not all applications are funded or fully funded. Should your proposal achieve support, funding will be disbursed in the calendar quarter immediately following approval. If you have previously received funding from the please be aware that all interim and final reports must be up to date before new proposals will be considered. RECEIVING NOTICE OF GRANT DECISION Applicants will be notified of grant award or denial by letter after the 's quarterly Board of Directors meeting. We request that inquiries regarding the status of a grant application be made after that date. An unsuccessful application does not necessarily reflect the worthiness of a particular project. The receives more requests than it can fund. Any agency whose request has been declined is encouraged to contact the program staff to discuss specific reasons for the rejection. EVALUATING PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS The is interested in the impact of its grantmaking. All grant recipients are required to provide the with progress report(s). Both interim and final reports may be necessary, depending upon the length and scope of the awarded project. Reports should detail how dollars were expended and what the project achieved. Award recipients may also be asked to participate in a survey to evaluate the 's grantmaking process or attend a sharing session with other grantees. PUBLICITY The may issue a press release about grants immediately after the awards are announced. Organizations are also asked to provide their own publicity after receiving a grant. Upon request, staff can offer assistance in this area. The appreciates photographs of funded projects to use in its publications.

4 GRANT APPLICATION FORMAT The following guidelines provide the desired application format. For formal submissions please submit an original and six copies via regular mail. Staple completed applications (Please do not use folders, binders, etc.). To submit the strongest possible proposal, please carefully follow the grant application guidelines and format. Please include the following (in this order): A COVER LETTER on letterhead signed by both the President and the Treasurer of the Board of Directors. THE CHECKLIST: Please use the accompanying checklist to insure that required items are included in the proposal. THE APPLICATION COVER SHEET: Please make sure that ALL items of the provided Application Cover Sheet are completed with correct information. PROJECT BUDGET: Present a one page line-item budget reflecting all expenses and income for the project. Clearly identify how the funds will be used. In a brief budget narrative please also note other sources of funding that are being pursued and the status of these requests. You may also use this narrative as an opportunity to clarify any expenditure.

7 TERMS AND CONDITIONS If the applying organization is awarded grant funds from the for the purposes stated in this application, the following terms and conditions pertain. The funds are to be used solely for the purposes stated in your application. By accepting the grant you agree: You are exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and currently are classified as a public charity pursuant to Internal Revenue code Section 509(a)(1),(2), or (3) (an "Exempt Public Charity"). To obtain the 's approval in writing if your aims for the grant change considerably from those listed in your proposal. To provide the with report(s) describing the project's successes, any significant difficulties encountered and how they were overcome. A fiscal section showing how the funds were expended should be included.
