2 The University of Washington Farm 2018 Summer Membership Information The UW Farm is a 1.2 acre, student-powered, urban vegetable farm located on 3 sites at UW s Seattle Campus. This will be the fifth season of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Our Mission Our mission is to be the campus center for the practice and study of urban agriculture and sustainability, and an educational, community-oriented resource for people who want to learn about building productive and sustainable urban landscapes. We are a student-run farm and education is at the heart of everything that we do. What is a CSA? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a relationship between our farm and you as our customer. By becoming a member you are not simply purchasing food, you are directly investing in the success of our student-run farm program and joining our community! In return you will receive a portion of our harvest and bring some of the freshest local produce right from our campus to your dinner table every week! The following outlines our shared commitments to this relationship. Receiving payment in advance of the growing season helps us reduce the up-front costs of production- seeds, equipment, etc, we appreciate your support! Our Growing Practices Produce is grown by students and volunteers learning the ins and out of sustainable urban vegetable production. The UW Farm is not certified organic but we are committed to strictly adhering to organic growing techniques. We use only sustainable methods that improve the soil and conserve water, and we practice ecological pest management. We also follow strict food safety protocols. What we promise to provide for our CSA Members We commit to providing you with a full share of our Summer harvest every week for 16 weeks; beginning on June 13th and ending on Sept 26th. Though love of vegetables can vary widely, we expect our boxes will feed an average family of four or two heavy veggie eaters. Your cost is $31.25 per week, but by paying up front you receive an average of at least $35 worth of produce at farmers market value weekly. Box contents will vary week to week, but each box will contain an average of 8-12 different items chosen by our students based on what is fresh from the farm that week.

3 For pictures of what a typical box might contain please visit our website at unity-supported-agriculture/ Sharing in the risks and rewards By joining our CSA program and becoming a part of our farm community, you share in the risks and rewards of agriculture. We promise to provide you with a bountiful share of produce each week, but the exact variety or quantity of vegetables may sometimes vary from week to week due to unpredictable conditions such as weather, insects or other production factors. This means that the variety of produce that we plan to grow is not always what we re able to deliver. By sharing risk, you also share in the reward when there is an abundance of what does well! Add-ons Flower CSA: Enjoy the beauty of the UW Farm cut flower garden by purchasing a share to receive 8 weeks of gorgeous fresh cut stems. Timing: Mid July-Mid September, pick-up with your veggie share. Cost: $80 ($10 a week) Pick-ups We offer two pick-up locations: On the farm at The Center for Urban Horticulture. On campus (Location tbd) Each week your share will be ready for pick up by 3PM every Wednesday. 1. Please take only the plastic liner bag and leave the tub at the site. 2. Sign for your produce. There will be a clipboard at each pick-up location that will have a spreadsheet with your name and the date. Please make a mark in the corresponding box. This sign-off sheet helps us keep track of who has picked up their share. Due to health and safety regulations all unclaimed produce is taken away by 7:30am the next morning. Please notify us right away if you will miss a distribution: a) Have a friend pick it up for you or pass it on to someone else, just be sure to give them the pick-up details and have them mark the sign-off sheet. b) Skip a week, notify us 24-hours before delivery day so that we can send the box directly to the food bank.

4 Members can change their pick-up location if needed. We ask that you one week in advance to schedule the switch. Payment We offer two payment plans for our Summer Session: Pay in Full with this agreement: Faculty/Staff - $500 by May 15th Students - $480 by May 15th 2 Installments: Faculty/Staff - $250 by May 15th, $250 by June 13th* Students - $240 by May 15th, $240 by June Flowers: $100 due in full by May 15th Your Summer CSA Membership will not be finalized until we receive this signed agreement and a check for either the total amount or a first installment. We will notify you by once these items are received to confirm your membership. Early Bird Bonus : Full payment by the end of February 2018 entitles you to your choice of two mixed farm bouquets or a 5lb flat of tomatoes during Peak Season, We will contact you by when the earlybird bonuses are available for pick-up. * If you choose the Installment payment plan, you will receive a reminder two weeks before the payment due date that 2nd payment is due on June 13th. We appreciate your timely payment. If circumstances arise that prevent you from paying your balance, please contact us to discuss a plan. If your payment is late and we do not hear from you, we may not pack a share for you until we hear from you. We will communicate with you via if we can t distribute your share because of nonpayment. When you sign up for a CSA membership we will add you to our mailing list. You will receive an orientation , containing directions for your pick-up location and a

5 reminder of our policies, a week before the first summer distribution date. You will also receive our CSA Newsletter each week of the Summer session. The Newsletter will be sent every weds before noon and will contain a pick-up reminder, a list of your box contents, farm related news and events, recipe suggestions and more.
