Program of Work The Year of the BACC 2018 Edition Building Business & Community Together The Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce declares 2018 to be a year of growth and positive change for its membership. With Bartlett being spotlighted as one of the most desirable communities in Tennessee, the BACC matches that momentum with a progressive mindset. Education, real estate, retail and manufacturing are all experiencing upward trends. The BACC will provide innovative solutions to support healthy business, increased area incomes and future growth. The BACC will support those claims by: 1) Being an active spokesperson for the business and professional community and translating into action the desires of its members (2) Rendering specific services to both its members and the community that can be most effectively rendered by this community-driven organization. Inside this issue: Objectives: Membership 2 Economic Development 3 Marketing 4 Community & Public Policy 5 Coordinate the efforts of both commerce and industry to develop and maintain a sound and vital business climate in the Bartlett area. Identify, develop and implement viable programs and initiatives that help membership succeed as well as stimulate economic growth to provide new capital investments, employment opportunities, economic diversity, enhanced tax revenues and higher paying jobs. Provide creative business leadership and effective coordination of all interested parties for solving community problems by initiating constructive community action Events 6 * Create and promote excellent business, personal and cultural opportunities in the Bartlett area. Educate the community on the merits of the private enterprise system.
2 Membership Never never underestimate the power of Your Chamber of Commerce! A flourishing membership is the lifeblood of the BACC. Many aspects of the Bartlett community would be underserved without the involvement of the BACC and its dedicated members. In order to continue to grow depth of membership and to allow the BACC to better serve the Bartlett community, we are partnering with Your Chamber Connection. This professional organization takes a unique and energizing approach to improving membership and volunteerism around the country. Current BACC members will be the driving force behind the program s success, which will help to further strengthen an already thriving Chamber and community. The BACC is committed to being responsive and pro-active with its members. We continue to study trends and other local factors in order to provide the best quality of services possible GOALS 750 members (25% increase over existing base) 1,000 total attendees at membership lunches (15% increase) 75 non-member business calls 10 chamber orientations $210,000 membership income 75 minimum Travel with the Chamber participants 450 Business After Hours attendees 150 Staying Ahead of the Curve attendees
3 Economic Development The BACC is focused on Bartlett s core strengths including life sciences, advanced manufacturing/technology, retail and hospitality. With the development of TCAT s new training center and the continued growth of the medical device industry, the BACC is working to reinforce Bartlett s claim as the epicenter of the medical device industry. The BACC is an active partner with the city to help identify and make available prime commercial property. As new businesses are attracted to town, the need for housing, retail and restaurants increase. The BACC continues to market the area s advantages and strengths in order to position Bartlett as a dynamic commercial and retail center PROJECTIONS & GOALS $90 Million in new capital investments, 600 New jobs, 200 new housing starts 200 New business licenses, an upward trend with property & sales tax revenues BACC Goal 200 existing business calls BACC Goal $250K in strategic investors BACC Goal 10% reduction in vacancy rate in select retail properties Workforce Development remains a primary focus for the BACC. A partnership between the BACC and GMMDC has resulted in bringing the new $17M, 50,000 sq. ft TCAT facility to Bartlett. Market and promote Bartlett as a worldwide medical device epicenter. Work with commercial landowners and developers to attract industrial & commercial users. Continue the partnership with GMACW with implementing the Move/Hire grant with U.S. DOL whose aim is to create jobs for the underemployed. Assist the GMMDC and local education centers with creating a sustainable pipeline of skilled workers. Work jointly with the City of Bartlett and developers to brand Bartlett as a housing and retail leader. Enhance the image and mission of the Shelby Chambers of Commerce Alliance for economic development. Collaborate with the Bartlett Station Commission to develop an environment that encourages the growth and success of local small businesses. Develop and market Bartlett Station as a town center and as a destination with the goal of increasing pedestrian traffic and retail activity. Enhance the retail corridor from the Wolfchase area westward towards the historic Bartlett Station area.
4 Marketing & PR Business has only two functions #marketing and innovation. A major focus for the Chamber is marketing to the community which includes: 1) BACC members 2) existing residents and businesses, 3) prospective homeowners and 4) vacationers and travelers. Marketing both externally and internally to the membership is critical for a healthy and sustainable Chamber. Updates and improvements with all BACC mediums are an on-going objective. BACC websites and social media outlets are constantly utilized and reviewed for the most informative and effective means of communication possible. The BACC maintains excellent relations with all media outlets and actively seeks opportunities to have membership and the City of Bartlett featured. Websites created and maintained by the BACC: Travel with the Chamber is being offered by the BACC for the seventh consecutive year. This popular program attracts travelers throughout the region and many are repeat participants. The BACC hopes to partner its 2018 marketing efforts with major media outlets in order to reach and even larger audience
5 Community & Public Policy The BACC serves as a bridge between local, state and federal government in order to inform, advise and critique how area businesses may be impacted by certain issues. Although the BACC remains neutral regarding political affiliations, it adheres to the belief that society must strive for the greater good for all. The BACC actively helps to form or seek alliances with organizations that can provide resources and/or funding for the benefit of both the community and its membership.
Events & Products Chamber events are an effective way to help members increase their visibility throughout the area. Whether it be through sponsorships or other forms of participations, the intent is to help businesses connect and grow. We believe key ingredients to success include working hard and having fun. The BACC hosts several events throughout the year in order to provide excellent venues for members to market themselves and also offer an experience to be enjoyed by all. Creating jobs and working toward the greater good is a worthwhile endeavor and in the process, the BACC and its members have the pleasure of building friendships and experiencing the camaraderie of commerce BACC Events 2018 Stakeholders Cup Golf Tournament The Women s Connection Luncheon & Expo Bartlett Business Expo Health & Home BACC Annual Membership Gala 2018 Marketing Goals Raise an additional $25K in revenue for events and sponsorships. Achieve an additional $25K in revenue for Bartlett Insights magazine and affinity programs. Increase media coverage for membership and BACC by 10%. Increase social media and website analytics by 10%.
