1 2015 SOCIETY OF EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICISTS INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION AND 85TH After nine years of absence, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) International Exposition and 85th Annual Meeting returned to the Big Easy October. We are very pleased with the solid success of SEG s Annual Meeting in light of the challenging conditions currently impacting the oil and gas industry, said SEG Executive Director Dorsey Morrow. The remarkable support of the event by professionals across multiple disciplines of the geoscience industry underscores the importance of the event for exchanging knowledge, building relationships, and generating new business.

7 HIGHLIGHTS This year s Annual Meeting expanded on many of last year s successful initiatives, including: v Registration and self-serve kiosks for check-in and badge printing v On-site attendee surveys for improved and increased feedback v Wiki Meetup NEW OFFERINGS v SEG Presentation Theater on the exposition floor for special presentations, award ceremonies, and networking events v Women s Networking Roundtable with a special focus on women in the industry v Summit on Dams and Levees v Inaugural SEG Members-only Breakfast v Special community event sponsored by the Southeastern Geophysical Society of New Orleans and the New Orleans Geological Society to benefit the Louisiana Children s Museum

8 This year s overhauled Annual Meeting app featured a new design and better usability, including: up-to-the-minute exhibitor, speaker, and event OVER 1,700 ATTENDEES USED THE APP information; ability to build a personalized schedule; opportunity to download abstracts, handouts, and presentations; and functionality to comment on and rate sessions.

10 EVENTS HONORS AND AWARDS SEG Honors and Awards Committee Chairman Steve Hill noted Nothing so H+ A clearly states who we are and what we do than the Outstanding Achievements on display at Honors and Awards. A full list of SEG Honors and Awards recipients, including their citations, is featured in the November 2015 issue of The Leading Edge. SEG MEMBERS-ONLY BREAKFAST The first ever SEG Members-only Breakfast held on 20 October was a huge success! Approximately 250 members stopped by to grab a bite and visit with SEG S President, Membership Committee, SEG Member Services team, and other SEG members. Thanks to all of our members who attended, and for those not able to join us this year, we look forward to seeing you in Dallas!

11 OPENING SESSION AND PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS The SEG 85th Annual Meeting officially kicked off Monday morning with Julius Doruelo, the 2015 Annual Meeting Steering Committee General Chair, making a parallel between the health of the city of New Orleans and the current financial state of the oil and gas industry. New Orleans is a testament to how a beleaguered community can come back and prosper, he said. Just like New Orleans, the oil and gas community will come back SEG President Chris Liner also made mention of our industry s current economic state. Liner said SEG is dealing with the current downturn by examining ways SEG can continue to service its members in the smartest, most efficient way possible. We ve been in business for 85 years, and we intend to be in business for 85 more, he said. It has been a pleasure serving you particularly during this recent downturn. INTERNATIONAL RECEPTION Tuesday, 20 October 2015, the SEG International Reception was held in the new SEG Presentation Theater on the exposition floor. Guests enjoyed hors d oevres and entertainment with a Middle East flair to celebrate our activities in the region.

12 LOUISIANA CHILDREN S MUSUEM EVENT SEG aligned with the Southeastern Geophysical Society (SGS) to support the Louisiana Children s Museum and raise funds for the construction of an exploration-geoscience gallery. This collaborative effort resulted in approximately $20,000 being raised for the project s development. Additionally, SEG donated all unused conference delegate bags to the city of New Orleans to benefit the Bridge House, a program focused on transitioning men and women from dependency to work life. APPLIED SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM (ASEP) On Wednesday, 21 October, four area high schools came together to learn the answers to the question, "Why does Louisiana's Subsurface Matter?" at the Applied Science Education Program. This year s program featured Dr. Torbjörn E. Törnqvist, Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane. Törnqvist led 152 students through a journey of geophysical phenomena in their home state. After he concluded, students were split into two groups. One visited the SEG Technical Program poster sessions and another wove through the exhibitor booths to an area that housed several displays relating to the geosciences. Each of the displays presented students with a hands-on experience with geophysical instruments, artifacts, and teaching tools.

13 WEDNESDAY NIGHT WRAP-UP WEDNESDAY NIGHT WRAPPARTY UP Laissez les bons temps rouler! (le-say lay bohn tomps roo-lay) All of your favorite New Orleans elements were combined into one event at the House of Blues. Located in the historic French Quarter with the ambiance of an old southern delta juke joint, the Party on the Bayou featured a parade, revelers, live music with a New Orleans flare, delta-inspired cuisine, and dancing! STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER Over 800 students enjoyed the SEG Student Pavilion and multiple events where they could connect with seasoned professionals, be inspired by the latest industry methodologies and technologies, and interact with recruiters and career coaches. Highlights included special student workshops and courses, student poster presentations, trial interviews, Exposition Hall tours, Challenge Bowl Finals, SEG commencement and awards ceremony, and much more!
