3 Grant Type Purpose Funding Amount Project Description Page Limit Seed Established Investigator Group Project Supports the early stages of projects not yet ready for larger funding mechanisms. REMINDER: Non-Faculty PI Waiver is required for postdoctoral fellow applicants. Well developed with preliminary data and a track record of independent research. Supports coordinated approaches to ambitious strategic goals beyond the scope of a single laboratory. Up to $200,000, expended up to 2 years Up to $750,000, expended up to 4 years Up to $1,500,000, expended up to 4 years 5 pages 10 pages 25 pages Core Facility (see separate RFP on RMRF website) Priority will be given to highly meritorious projects for which, after successful completion of the proposed studies, clinical research or commercialization would be the anticipated next step with the goal of promoting the development of novel treatments for disease. Supports shared core facilities for regenerative medicine investigators and stem cell researchers. Priority will be given to existing RMRFfunded Core Facilities or those requesting additional funds for new core technology development. Up to $1,000,000, expended up to 2 years 20 pages

Project Summary Applicants who are resubmitting a proposal that was previously submitted to the RMRF and did not receive funding must provide an additional one (1) page Introduction, in which they explain how the current submission of the proposal was revised and how the scientific peer review concerns have been addressed. *do not include proprietary information in this section.

8 Attachments IV, V Attachment IV Budget, Budget Justification, Special Considerations Equipment threshold = $5,000 The following statement is suggested to be placed at the end of the budget justification: Above costs were estimated based on current market pricing to achieve the milestones as described in the research plan Attachment V Letters of Support * General support letters from President Herbst and CT Stem Cell Core are available on SPS website. * Postdoctoral fellows submitting Seed applications must include a letter from their Faculty Sponsor.

9 BUDGET REMINDERS Start Date: December 1, 2017 (estimate) Use Institutional Base Salary (DHHS salary cap does not apply) Per institutional guidance, use 3% salary increase/year Fringe rates: Use proposal rates (40%, 68%, 28%, etc.) Include office supplies, memberships, shipping, etc. in budget justification so those costs may be appropriately charged to your award if funded. F&A Rate: 25% No F&A on tuition/fees, equipment $5,000 and above, subawards beyond the first $25,000 (see next slide).

10 Subawards (Subcontracts) No Subawards outside of Connecticut. Subawards between UConn Health and Storrs: The prime awardee (UConn Health or UConn Storrs) will voluntarily waive F&A for the first $25,000 of a subaward to the other campus. Subawards to all other entities (academic or commercial): UConn Health and UConn Storrs will charge 25% F&A, up to the first $25,000 for each subawardee.

Intellectual Property The following statement was provided by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR): Per University of Connecticut policy, any invention, whether patentable or not, developed during the course of this project will be disclosed to the OVPR s Technology Commercialization Services group, which oversees patenting and licensing for the University. 7.c. Commitment to Sharing Resources Protocols, reagents and significant findings will be shared with the State of Connecticut Stem Cell Research Community. 7.d. Financial Commitment from other Sources The requested budget is sufficient for the proposed outlined experiments.

14 PLEASE NOTE Decisions regarding funding are anticipated by October Notification of funding approval will be made by Connecticut Innovations. The funding period begins on the effective date specified in the assistance agreement. Expenditures incurred before the effective date of the assistance agreement may not be charged against the project (no pre-award).
