2 Italian Research Call for Grants General Information The Health has launched Budget on clinical-healthcare i l lth and biomedical research projects, mostly translational on the following Areas: 1. Metabolic disorders and cardiovascula diseases 2. Neurological diseases 3. Oncology 4. Infection and immunity 5. New biotechnologies 6. Food safety and animal wellfare at the end of 2012 the Call for Grant - 7. Environmental diseases, occupational diseases and safety in the workplace

3 1) Ordinary Projects (identifiable by the RF as first digits of the code) 1790 projects 2) Ordinay Projects presented by Young Resarchers (first code digits: GR) : projects presented by investigators younger than projects 3) Network Projects - (first code digits: PR ) projects that provide for the activation of Networks of translational and clinical research - 87 projects 4) Italian Researcher Abroad - (first code digits: it PE) projects carried out tin collaboration with Italian researchers operating abroad projects 5) Projects with industrial co-financing (first code digits: PC) 54 projects All the projects have been classified by the Pr rincipal Investigator according to the specific area/areas derivated from NIH IRG-SS classification General information and types of projects The reserchers could present 5 different types of projects 3503 proposals have been submitted :

4 Evaluation phases and payment timetable Individual id evaluation: starting from 12/06/20 / 13 each project will be evaluated by two independent reviewers. In this phase you will haveaccesstotheloi(letterofintent)andtothe full text of the project. To enable the improvement of the quality of the projects, applicants not funded d in the previous Cll Call can submit the revis sed applications, and reviewers will have access tothepreviousevaluationaswellastheresubmitted projects. Please complete your evaluation within 20 days from the assignment of the projects Face to face (F2F): aimed to compare your evaluations with the ones provided by another reviewer on the same proposal, to confront and reach a common score/judgement. After the completion of the individual phase each reviewerr will have access to the other s evaluations, and the system will randomly assign the role of team leader (you will receive a message). At the end of this phase, the team leader will provide a newly agreed concise written critiques, and the final score Considering the great number of applications submitted we are planning to end the reviewing phase on 09/30/2013. / During the whole evaluation process, a specific group of reviwers, identified as Editors, will verify the existence ofanypossible concern in th he evaluations submitted. Payment of reveiwers honorarium: Payment Procedures will be started at the end of the evaluation phase and anyway within September Please take note that, accordind to the Italian budget law, the payment will be subjected to the control procedures carried out by other national Administrations, which will take not less than days

5 IT EVALUATIO ON SYSTEM WORK Flow Management System ( rca.cbim.it) cbim it) The Biomedical Research Workflow Management System is the web-based information-flow system used by the Italian Ministry of Health to support the management of all the activities related to National Biomedical Research. The System allows the best management of any procedures connected with the different phases of the research projects, ncluding the evaluation of the proposals submitted and the timely exchange of inform mation between the Ministry of Health, research institutes, referees and applicants. 7 Login/restore password/change password At the first login you will be asked to change your password. If you loose your password you can restore it directly on the system (look at the pictures)

10 Account ing Data Step 4 Click on this box to specify your areas of expertise the system will assign the projects accordingly! Important! Once entered the IGG + SS data, the fields CANNOT be modified! You can select 5 different IRG SS expertise areas

Account ing Data y y 6 Click here to insert your country of residence Please fill in the requested information using the greatest care, to avoid payment problems! In all cases, at the end of the evaluation phase you will receive a notice to further verify all the payment data (i.e number of evaluations carried out, corresponding honorarium, payment data) and your payment dt data: all the fields highlighted in red are mandatory. Only US residentsare allowed to request the payment by bank check. For Other Countries this option isn t available

12 Projects pre assign ned for evaluation Clickhere to access the list of projects to be evaluated You can access the LOI (Letter of Intents) in PDF format. Click on the green icon to accept the preassigned evaluation. The system will present you a list of 30 projects, according to your expertise and you will be allowed to select for evaluation a maximum of 10 projects each time. After having completed the evaluation of all the selected projects you will be allowed to restart the procedure of selection for another 10 projects..

14 Evaluation l kh d l d Click here to download: Letter of Intent (LOI ) Project (PRF) Attachments Data of the resubmitted project 1 For each evaluation criteria specified on on the left insert your score, using the selection bar, corresponding to the score given, and your critiques (it is mandatory to specify them accurately in the field «Note»), taking into account the parameters pointed out in the Guidelines for proposals evaluation (available on the Manuals section, on the left of the screen). At the end of your assessment click on «Confirm» at the bottom of the page to save it. 2 To submit your evaluation, you are required to tick the box. Once sent, the evaluation cannot be modified. According to the Call the text of the AIMS is defined in the LOI and copied in the full project Pleas e note that, due to technical reasons, the aims reported in the full projects are not precisely numbered (we cannot modify the text of the full project for legal reasons) as in the LOI. So please Health CALL read FOR them in LOI, where the AIMS are correctedly 12 June numbered 2013

15 Evaluation criteria You can find detailed information on the evaluation criteria to be followed in the «Guidelines for proposals evaluation», accessible through the Manuals section (left part of the screen)

18 F2F F orum At the end of the comparison and having reached an agreement between the two reviewers, the Team Leader have to enter the final evaluation. When the second reviewer accept it the F2F agreed evaluation is submitted
