2 Course overview At the University of Tasmania we know you can t learn entrepreneurship and innovation from theory alone. We take a contemporary approach to learning and you will find our work integrated learning integrated across your units in a range of ways, from an optional study tour to California and live case studies to simulations, workshops with industry experts, and opportunities to work with new ventures or even develop a new start-up of your own. Our Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) has been forged with the latest thinking in business and developed with input from leaders in entrepreneurship and successful startups. The MEI at the University of Tasmania is designed to give individuals the creative, intellectual, and motivational skills necessary to create and identify new opportunities and to start their own businesses, or initiate new ventures within existing companies. Students will engage with the teaching material in the classroom and through entrepreneurial project work, a field trip, and relationships with mentors. A critical experiential learning component comes from guided project work with startups corporate venture where students will provide independent analysis of, and solutions to, problems confronting entrepreneurs and innovators operating in highly dynamic and uncertain environments. After observing and engaging with existing entrepreneurial ventures, students will embark on the development of their own start-up ideas within regional and global contexts, guided by academic staff and industry mentors. To achieve their entrepreneurial goals, students will learn industry-specific knowledge from experts, in particular industrial sectors that best coincide with students venture ideas. Examples of possible sectors include travel and tourism, agribusiness/aquaculture, and technology. 3 Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation The Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation or MEI will provide you the skills to Identify and critically analyse internal and external factors that affect a venture s ability to create and/or discover new opportunities and that influence entrepreneurial decisions and the ability to commercialise products and services. Analyse the current and future state of a chosen industry sector (including the nature of competition, its financial and economic conditions, short and long-run trends (both locally and globally), and other factors that will affect entrepreneurial activity in the sector. You will be able to effectively contribute to the management of the start-up and commercialisation practice by establishing entrepreneurial businesses and developing supportive organisational environments to foster innovation. And lastly, it will teach you to demonstrate creative and reflective thinking, lifelong learning and critical inquiry skills fundamental to entrepreneurial leadership. The above course costs are indicative 4 as individual unit fees may vary. 5 Units to complete Duration Mode of study Location Intake Course Code A total of 12 core units plus a Capstone Venture Project (equivalent to 4 units or 50 credit points) are required to be completed 2 years full time, with a maximum of 5 years part time Available on-campus only. A full time study load is 4 units per 13 week teaching block, per Semester. Study hours range between hours per week depending on units selected. Also available part time. OR b) completion of a Graduate Certificate of Management or Graduate Diploma of Business Administration at an Australian Higher Education Institution. International applicants For entry to the MEI, international students must meet the domestic requirements, you must also provide an IELTS test score of at least Band 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 on all bands or a TOEFL score of 600 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. This test must not be more than 24 months old. Fees Domestic applicants The current 2017 course tuition fee is $51, AUD plus the compulsory student services amenities (SSA) fee for 2017 $ AUD. International applicants The current 2017 course tuition fee is $67, AUD Application process Domestic and international applications for the Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation can be made directly to the University of Tasmania and should be submitted electronically via the University s online application process, or via an authorised agent. The Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) is available to all commencing international students who submit an application to study with us.
