WELCOME March 3, 2011 BONITA SPRINGS, FLORIDA Thank you to Darren and Stacy Robertshaw and the Trianon Bonita Bay Staff
Accomplishments Economic Development Committee Joseph Ariola - Key Bank Identified target industries to diversify our economy, complimenting county and state efforts, they include: Aviation Life Sciences Internet Technology Corporate Headquarters Back Office & Shared Services Eco Tourism and Attractions Clean Manufacturing and Green Technologies Developed initial asset list and defined market area Successfully advocated for City passage of resolution to be business friendly Successfully advocated for passage of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between City, Fire and BSU for streamlined permitting. Achieved passage of resolution for two year waiver of impact fees for change of use on existing buildings current commercial vacancy rate 1.5 million sq. ft.
RETINA EYE CARE CENTER West Terry and Route 41 Dr. Patel saved $26,000 on his first tenant due to the waiver of impact fees for change of use. As he adds more tenants, his savings will grow. DR. NICHOLAS MARCIANO Local much loved Dentist will save more than $40,400 on impact fees. Medical impact fees would have been $58, compared to office which is $17, In addition, he will bring a new business, a Dental Lab to town adding three to four additional jobs.
Value Proposition Mayor Ben Nelson, City of Bonita Springs Brian Hamman, CenturyLink BSEDC Structure and Scope of Work Rich Mancini - Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt P.A.
Structure At start-up the BSEDC will be a fully functioning independent entity, the legal form of which will be a Florida not-for-profit corporation, 501 (C) (6). At this time we have articles of incorporation, bylaws, a tax ID number, a bank account and have incorporated in the state of Florida.
Structure The BSEDC Board of Directors will be comprised of dues paying member investors from: Chamber's Economic Development Committee Representatives from the City of Bonita Springs, Bonita Springs Utilities and Bonita Fire District Representatives from corporate/private sector investors Invited members with special skills/attributes in economic development (i.e. Retired Corporate CEO, Educators, etc.)
ED Council Board of Directors 12 Member Board These individuals will be selected by the Council s member investors. To date those investors are: Bonita Springs Area Chamber of Commerce City of Bonita Springs CenturyLink Key Bank Shaw Development Corporation Southwest Florida College Andrew DeSalvo James Dati, Esquire Owen Ames Kimball Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A. Rosier Insurance Christine & Robert Ross Bonita Springs Fire Union In addition, Four Ex-Officio Members Representing: 1. City 2. BSU 3. Fire 4. Chamber
Scope of Work It is recommended that the function/scope of work of the new Bonita Springs Economic Development Council be prioritized and implemented in four stages. Stage One: Asset Assessment/ Profile/ Demographics Stage Two: Existing Enterprise Program Stage Three: Internal & External Marketing Stage Four: Relocation, Expansion, Recruitment
Scope of Work Stage 1: April 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011 Asset Assessment/Profile/Demographics - Before any "marketing" can begin it is critical to have an accurate "picture" of our existing community/market. We are currently partnering with local government, institutional and business groups, the City, Lee and Collier County, FGCU, the SBDC, other higher education institutions, and corporate "citizens. Final product is the basis for both internal and external marketing focused on targeted industries/businesses, and present expansion and relocation opportunities within the Bonita Springs area.
Scope of Work Stage 2: October 1, 2011 and forward Existing Enterprise Program - The top priority will be to ensure that existing business enterprises, regardless of their affiliation with the Chamber, stay, grow, and thrive in our area. Existing local and regional business represents the greatest potential for business development, job growth, and economic diversification. Studies from other areas of the country uniformly report that approximately 80% of new jobs are created by existing businesses in their area.
Accountability, Measurability & Reporting Andrew DeSalvo - Premier Commercial Properties of Southwest Florida The impacts of our Economic Development efforts, a 5+ year project, will be measured in terms of jobs, income and output (business sales) Factors we will also track include: Reduction of the more than 1.5 million square feet of empty commercial/retail space currently in existence in Bonita Springs. Number of new units installed by BSU. Number of permits pulled for construction work on existing buildings. Accountability and Reporting We will issue annual reports to the public. The reports will include goals and objectives for current year Goals and objectives for future year. Established benchmarks for measurement. An analysis of return of investment (ROI).
