The programme will also equip you with the essentials and the confidence to carry on to higher-level study with the NZ Certificate in Exercise [Level 4] to further develop your skills and employment options. CONTACT TIME On-campus classes are usually scheduled between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm Monday to Thursday. ENTRY CRITERIA This is an open entry programme which means no formal qualifications are required. You must be aged 16 or over, and have NCEA Level1 Lliteracy and Numeracy, or equivalent, or demonstrated interest in the industry and evidence of the potential to succeed. INFORMATION SESSION An information session is highly recommended as it is an opportunity for us to clarify what is involved in the programme and for you as a potential student to make sure the programme is right for you. HEALTH AND PROFESSIONAL CRITERIA All applicants are required to: Sign a declaration and a request for personal information held on the Police computer. Sign a declaration that they are in good health (having no medical, physical or psychological conditions that would preclude working with vulnerable clients). This request is consistent with industry expectations and the type of work undertaken whilst on the programme or as a graduate of the programme. ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENT A level of English language fluency is required for the programme. This may be demonstrated through successful study of a programme in which English, completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language [Level 3], approved scores on IELTS tests (5.0 Academic with no band score lower than 5.0), completion of accepted international equivalents, or completion of an EIT assessment. ENTRY WITH CREDIT If you wish to claim credit from previous studies or experiences, you can do so by applying for Cross Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning. Cross Credit is based on the equivalency of courses or qualifications. You would apply for Cross Credit if you have passed a very similar course at the same level. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is based on the assessment of your current knowledge and skills. You would apply for RPL if you had gained the relevant knowledge and skills through life experiences and informal learning situations. Please identify any credit you may wish to be considered as part the programme at application. Please note recognising prior learning may reduce your study load in this programme and impact on your ability to receive funding. The first assessment will take place within the first three weeks of the programme. The second will be a week or two before you finish the programme. This final assessment will show how you have improved with your Literacy and Numeracy skills. The assessment is for information only and the results are not considered part of any assessments in the programme. FACILITIES HAWKE S BAY CAMPUS For Hawke s Bay students, lectures are held on-campus in Taradale. Practical sessions will include various off-site locations and the occasional use of the Pettigrew Green Arena Gym. Also included in your enrolment is a limited membership to the Pettigrew Green Arena Gym. TAIRĀWHITI CAMPUS For students at Gisborne's Tairāwhiti, lectures are held on-campus. Practical sessions will include various off-site locations and the occasional use of the YMCA Gym. Also included in your enrolment is a limited membership to the YMCA Gym. ASSESSMENTS Assessments are a combination of practical and written assessments. The emphasis in all assessments is the demonstration of practical knowledge relevant to the industry. 4 ENROLMENT INFORMATION HOW TO ENROL STEP ONE Complete the enrolment form that was included with this info pack and return with all required supporting documents. STEP TWO You may be contacted and invited to an interview. STEP THREE You will receive an invoice with payment details. Arrangements for full payment of enrolment fees must be made before the start of your programme. Or apply online Apply to StudyLink if applicable, even if you haven't been accepted on to your programme yet. Visit www. studylink.govt.nz. You will receive an acceptance letter with programme information including your start date. It may also include course selection forms. You need to complete and return them. SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS Scholarships and grants make life easier by helping to cover your fees, other costs and living expenses while you study. You don t always need to be an academic high-flyer to qualify. EIT has a long list of scholarships for which you can apply. So if you would like to get financial help with your study, make sure you find out what s available. You can also take a look online at the givme database available at EIT. It lists every scholarship and grant available in New Zealand. STUDENT SERVICES LEVY The Student Services Levy is a compulsory non-tuition fee that is charged to students enrolled at EIT. The levy is to contribute to the provision of quality student services that support learning. The funds received by EIT from the levy are ring-fenced, meaning they can only be spent on student services. STUDENT LOANS AND ALLOWANCES StudyLink is a service of the Ministry of Social Development. Apply well before your programme begins (even if you haven't been accepted yet) so you'll be ready to get your payments when you need them most. Check out studylink.govt.nz or phone A Student Allowance is a weekly payment to help you with living expenses. It doesn't have to be paid back. A Student Loan is made up of three parts compulsory fees, course-related costs and living costs. You have to pay these back.
